Yeah that's the iso. If you can get DVD Decrypter to read it properly browse to the mds file and click open. Decrypter will automatically know to burn the iso. That's it.

Right....just can't get DVD Decrypter, well windows altogether, to recognize the dvd burner, it seems to think its just a dvd rom and can only read but not write....oh well I'll just have to figure out how to do it successfully with Toast.
thanks

I'm alittle confused. Do you need a Modchip to play them? or is there a way to burn them and play without a modchip?
I wasted 3 DVD+R's so far, trying to back up one game.
please help... thanks
(using: DVD Decripter and Nero)

I've been doing a lot of reading on this thread about modchips & swap magic 3.6. I was wanting to buy swap magic for my son for Christmas but everything seems so confusing. I don't want to have his system mod. I did make a backup copy of a PS2 game with no problem and it worked on his friends PS2 because it has a modchip in it. My sons PS2 has the slide out tray in the front. I've been looking on sites to buy swap magic you have to buy the disk and the slide Tool. I guess what I'm trying to say is it worth the money and will it really work and is it hard to use? And there is so many sites that sell swap magic can someone PM with the best site do to business with I'm in the USA?
Thanks for any info

This should answer some of your questions:
Sticky this Darthnip, please.
1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter. Guide: http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id3.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.
2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/240341 If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, etc.
3. Q. Do I need some type of mod to play PS2 backups or imports?
A. Yes you need a modchip: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 Swap Magic: http://swapmagic3.com/ Memory Card Exploit (Doesn't work with v.11 PS2 and later): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289 HD Loader: http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id4.html#hd%20loader or
HD Advance: http://www.hdadvance.com/hd_advance_how-to-use.htm
7. Q. What do I need to use Swap Magic?
A. With fat PS2 v.1-11: Flip top: http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/fliptop/page1.cfm Slide Card: http://www.saveware.com/SlideCardUsageAndInstall.htm With Slim PS2 v.12-14
Flip top: http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/fliptop-v12/pag... Magickeys (also referred to as slide tool, slim tool or, magic switch): http://magickeys.net/ or tape and tissue mod: From Pretense: If the fliptop doesn't work, just give up on it and do a tape and tissue mod. Open up your case again and tape the back sensor (toward the upper left and beneath the hinge part of the lid) with duct tape or even regular Scotch tape (I use several layers to be on the safe side), put the case back together, and stuff a small ball of tissue into the hole for the front sensor (lower right just above the power button).
8. Q. What should I use to download PS2 games?
A. Bit torrent, P2P, IRC, or newsgroups. Bit torrent is the easiest and most common way. You need a BT client like Bit Tornado, Azureus, Bitlord, Bitcomet, Shareza, etc.
31. Q. I have bills to pay, go to school, or have an expensive drug habit, what is the best mod solution for me, factoring in price?
A. Swap Magic 3.6+flip top=$35. Duo2SE modchip=$20 (if you solder it yourself, NOT RECOMMENDED, unless you're a pro), $55 (if you pay pro).
47. Q. Should I get Swap Magic or a modchip to play PS2 backups/imports?
A. Depends. Swap Magic is inexpensive and works well. It isn't compatible with DVD-9 games. For games above 4.38GB's you may have to rebuild the iso or do a TOC refresh to boot it. This is a small percentage of games, around 5%. In general Swap Magic 3.6 is an excellent product. After rebuilding there isn't a single game which Swap Magic won't boot. A good modchip is the ultimate upgrade. It'll play PSX/PS2/DVD/CD backups/imports automatically. It's compatible with DVD-9 games, makes your PS2 a region free player, supports multi disc games, and you'll never have to rebuild a game or shrink a DVD-9 to DVD-5. The conversation about good modchips begins and ends with the DMS 4 and the Matrix Infinity. They both do everything I mentioned above. For that functionality you would have to spend $100 to $110 for a professional install. It's expensive but you'd be able to play anything the PS2 is capable of reading. If you get a modchip make sure you use one of the reputable installers posted above.
75. Q. I heard you could damage your PS2 if use a slide card, is this true?
A. Yes and no. If you use the slide card properly, no. There is no long term harm to your PS2. If you use it improperly and try to jam the slide card in your PS2 before the front cover is removed, or try to jam it in the slide station in a frenzied search for the white tab that pops out the disc tray, then yes. This can damage the eject motor, rendering it inoperable. So be careful.

I don't personally use them. I've heard from several people who have that they're awful. They use cheap dyes which wear down your PS2 laser quickly and have a low success rate. They may work for you now, but you'll probably pay for it down the road.

It depends. If it's only a couple games, I wouldn't worry about it. I have like 50 PSX games backed up on Memorex CD-R's. No way I'm transferring all them to better CD-R's. Just don't use them in the future. Also DVD-R's are always better to use with the PS2 than DVD+R's.

If your copying DVD-R's you already burned, Use DVD Decrypter. To burn the iso to your HD, MODE-->ISO-->READ. To burn it to DVD-R, MODE-->ISO-->WRITE. That's it. Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R. Sony should be fine. I use Maxell's which are made in Taiwan, and they work fine.

Are you still using the DVD+R's? It's always better to use the DVD-R's with the PS2.

Set the read speed to 1x. It's slow but that's the way to go.

When copying games it is best to use a computer that has been formatted to NTFS and not FAT32..NTFS has a larger file structure and it is more stable that FAT32.. If you are using FAT32 you will get write errors and read errors when using DVD Decrypter..

FAT 32 can't handle files over 2GB's. That isn't the problem anyway. What speed are you burning at what media are you using? If you read that link I posted you probably would've solved this by now.

An I/O error is usually because of cheap media or a scratched or dirty disc.
