Not yet anyway.....From the WiiKey website

[07.08.08] Wii firmware 3.0 issues

Nintendo has released firmware 3.0 via online updates. It will NOT brick or disable Wiikey; however, base and config discs will not load 'natively', neither will any other GC disc with El Torito standard header format. WiiNewz have reported that there are already tools available for building bootable config and setup discs, as well as other discs with applications and emulators. We are currently researching why the El Torito format no longer works. Once this is completed new versions of the config and base system disc will be made available.

You could use it... But the best is a solder tip that is ultra smal !!

are there any SATA drives that can rip wii retail DVDs? cause the LGs suggested were IDE drives.

also, which burner should i use to burn wii games? i currently use the one i have in my DELL 700m and it seems to be fine. i'm thinking of buying the for my desktop for burning wii backups.
Being SATA or IDE doesn't really matter for ripping the Wii retail discs. Think about it: if you burn a DVD @ 8x it takes about 7-9 minutes no matter if your DVD burner is SATA (mine at work) or IDE (mine at home). So... if ripping a retail Wii disc takes 2 - 2.5hrs then what speed do you think it's ripping at? The drive interface at these low speed is irrelevant.

Unlike the drive you need to rip games (those aforementioned LG drives) the drive you use to burn the ripped games doesn't matter. LG, LiteOn, Plextor, Sony, Toshiba... take your pick.

So let me get this straight...You can still play burned wii games with the 3.0 update and everything you just can't configure the setup disc any more? and what's El Torito format or whatever that is?

Do you live in Canada? If you do check out this store in Canada called Canada Computers, they sell that particular model too. Not only its cheap, but it also saved me from paying shipping cost! Check out your area maybe there's one in your neigbourhood, here is the link:

http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php...2333&cid=CR.196

Check out the site and see if there's a branch close to you, goodluck coz the stock is a little low.

I don't have WiiKey, i don't know what i have, but I can play both Jap and US games and burned games. But after i played Mario Strikers (U) my Wii is half-bricked. Will Donkey Kong Taru Racing (J) fix it? What firmware does it have on it? 2.2J? 3.0?

I have no idea what you mean mickrobb but when you burn the image raw dump wont recognize it cause its not the original disc ( I Think) but you can just burn another copy if you saved the iso or if you make an exact copy of the disc!!

OK EVERYONE HERES THE DEAL!! ALL THE RUMORS ABOUT THE MODCHIPS NOT WORKING OR YOUR WII GETTING BRICKED AFTER THE 3.0 UPDATE IS NOT TRUE!! YOU STILL CAN PLAY BURNED GAMES AND YOU CAN STILL PLAY ONLINE EVERYTHING IS 100 PERCENT FINE!! HOWEVER, THE 3.0 UPDATE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO USE BASE AND CONFIGURATION DISCS AND ANY OTHER GAMECUBE DISCS WITH ANY EL TORITO STANDARD HEADER FORMAT!! BUT AS FAR AS EVERYTHING ELSE. EVERYTHING IS JUST FINE!! DONT WORRY, EXPERTS ARE COMING OUT WITH A NEW SETUP DISC TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM!! MOD ON BABY!!

Ya, I live in canada, and there is a Canada Computers very close to my house. I love the store, but they don't have the drive in stock, and the guy said it would take at least 2 or 3 weeks to get the drive into the store from another one. If I can wait I will, but I might just buy it online.

Thanks a lot

FOR PEOPLE WITH A WIIKEY

HOW TO BACKUP GAMES WITH A WII (also backups!!)

It might sound a little stupid, but i found out how to backup a backup !! Because you cannot backup it just by clikking copy disc in NERO :S

Here's how:

How to backup a Wii backup

Needed:

Wiikey

Wiikey SD unit (or any other MODDED SDGamecube memory stick)

Wiikey setup disc 1.2 or higher

Gamecube controller

SD from 2 GB (smaller can be used, but might give trouble by swapping alot)

About 2 hours

HOW TO BACKUP A BACKUP DISC

Step 1
Download the latest Wiikey Setup disc from here: wiikey.cn
Create an Imge for your Wii (European Wii --> bootablediscPAL.bat) etc.

Burn the image on 4x !!
Format the SD with the SD tool

Step 2
Power up the Wii and startup the Wiikey Disc.
Remember a GC controller is needed !!

Step 3
Choose DVD-Dumptool
The tool is now loaded. Insert the disc you want to backup and push any button.
MAKE SURE: that the SD-unit is inserted in slot A (otherwise it will not work)

Errors that might accur:[/]
When it says **SD Error** or something like that it is probably your SD unit that doesn't fit well in your Wii (i have the same problem)
Solution
Just push the SD unit (when sitting in front of your Wii) to the right... the unit will function properly than (a pease of foam on the frond of your SD unit will also work though !!)

[b] Step 4
The program will now start the backup!
You'll see this:

You might have noticed it but 1 Wii game will not fit on a 2 GB SD!! So it will be devided in Chunks...

When a chunk is ready
When your Wii says, its ready take it out and start the DUMP.BAT file
Now the chuink will be downloaded from the SD and will automaticly converted in an ISO.

With a 2 GB cart you have to swap 2-3 times...
With a 1 GB cart you have to swap 6-7 times...

i didn't try lower... because the wait is than TOO long !!

Happy backup

Gr B4rtj4h
