I just use DVD Decrypter to burn my PS2 backups at 4x or 2x on an 8x DVD-R. I have an older burner, so I burn at 2x when copying an original and at 4x, when burning a downloaded game. I rented Soul Reaver 2 and Legacy of Kain defiance, and backed those up by creating an iso with DVD Decrypter with the read speed set at 1x, then I burn the games to disk at 2x, and they work great. Basically used DVD Decrypter for normal backup of games. It's free, works great, and is easy to use.
@Dude3 Sounds right. Are you running a bunch of stuff in the background when burning, like Internet Explorer, Kaaza, MSN Messenger, stuff like that? If so, close everything when ripping the iso to your HD. I don't know why you're not getting an mds file, but it's not that important. I asked you before, you do have Swap Magic, a modchip or some means of playing burned games, right? I think it was a typo, but you said you went to MODE-->ISO-->WRITE and set the "read" speed at 4x. I think you meant to say write speed. People quit asking if you need a mod to play backups. YES YES YES YES. Clear enough for you?
3. Q. Do I need some type of mod to play PS2 backups or imports?
A. Yes you need a modchip: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 Swap Magic: http://swapmagic3.com/ Memory Card Exploit (Doesn't work with v.11 PS2 and later): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289 HD Loader: http://www.hdloader.com.au/hardinstall#prepare or
HD Advance: http://www.hdadvance.com/hd_advance_how-to-use.htm Before you accuse me of being a dick, this is like the third time someone has asked me a question when the answer is a couple lines above it. That's just being lazy folks.

I got my swaps today and im going to test out the two games i burned... the warriors and 007 from russia with love. i hope it works. im trying to use cmc media for testng ONLY as their rep is horrible. cause i do not whant to waste valuable good media until im 100%%%% positive that it would work and run.

The only way to boot a burned copy of Swap Magic is with an original. Your friend either has an original copy, a modchip, or a MC exploit. You can't just burn it, stick in your PS2, and have it work. Just shell out the $20 bucks for Swap Magic 3.6, and do it right. Good luck Pirated.

@pirated Get some better media. You can pick up some Maxell's at Wal-Mart that are RitekG05, decent stuff. CMC Magnetics is horrible. They're just regular Maxell DVD-R's in a blue wrapper. The discs are like tan or gold colored. Or you can find some good deals at http://www.supermediastore.com They have some great deals on Verbatim, Ritek, and Taiyo Yuden. What are you using with Swap Magic, a flip top or modchip?
@dude3 I don't know what you're doing wrong. The guides I posted all work, I've backed up several games using them without too many problems. At some point you're doing something wrong. What good are bittorrent sites if you can burn games properly anyway? The Maxell's I use are Silver bottomed, are you sure your not using DVD+R's or DVD+RW's? This isn't that hard, look over the guides and go step by step until you figure out what your doing wrong.

No I don't think you can load games off an Ipod Hard Drive. It may be possible, but I wouldn't even know where to begin. What kind of DVD burner do you have? You're giving up on this way too easily. I am no master of burning, but do you have any idea how many coasters I had to make to get to where I am now? I'd guess 50-100 AT LEAST. Try some better media. Go to Wal-mart and pick up some of the Maxell's I described. If that doesn't work then maybe it's your burner. You can do it, Swap Magic is a good product and works well, I just think your not burning your backups right. That is by far the number one cause of backups not working with Swap Magic.

20. Q. What are DNA's?
A. Any game made after 2003 for the PS2 that is online playable contains one or more image files that has a "disk
DNA checker." The online game server checks your game disk to see if it's the real thing or not. Thus, you have to discover which .img file on the game disc has the checker file.
21. Q. How do I patch DNA's?
A. http://www.ps2nfo.com/on-line.html
22. Q. Where can I find DNA ID's?
A. NTSC-US: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/199101C
PAL: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/198137
23. Q. What version is my PS2?
A. http://mod-chip.com/index-cart-us.php?go=en/select_ps2_main.htm
A version 2 PS2 likely won't play backups. v.1-3 PS2's don't play backups well at all, and most mod sites won't even touch em. Dude all these questions could have been answered with a little searching, quite frankly my patience is wearing thin with people who don't even try to search. You have all the info necessary to create successful backups. If you get better DVD's, follow the guides I posted, and still can't create succuessful backups, it's because you have a v.2 PS2. Check the link to make sure you have a v.2.

Yeah that certainly could be the problem. I have talked to people who have v.1-3 PS2's and claim to have played backups fine, but really nobody credible. More like a random comment here or there from people that are sketchy at best. It certainly is possible, it's just not the norm. Dude why can't you find which version PS2 you have, do the ones in Canada have different serials, or did you not even bother to check the link?

Well that's good to know. Don't worry about what is says in configuration, go by what it says on the serial on the back of the PS2.

Well when I know you're looking, I don't mind helping. So which version PS2 do you think you have? If the backups you buy work, then I doubt it's the modchip or your PS2. Have you tried burning at 1x or 2x? When you burn with DVD Decrypter, what file are you burning?

Try burning at 2x. If that doesn't work, try rebuilding:
10. Q. What does rebuilding an iso mean?
A. It means that some games 4.36-4.38GB's may need rebuilt to work with Swap Magic. Games over 4.38GB's will need rebuilt. This isn't true for ALL games over 4.38GB's and differs on a game to game basis. Sometimes it's even necessary to rebuild with a modchip.
11. Q. How Do I rebuild games?
A. With Nero and Isobuster (works as long as no single file is over 2 GB's): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/197949 With CD/DVDGen: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210515
