I actually did not shake the wii. It seems like the wii plays all the original games and not the back-ups. I think the firmware was changed from the update when i put SSBB in. Before inserting the game the wii did play the back-up games.

You said that you played an original SSBB disc. Now, if have a Wiikey and the Wiikey was working, you should not have been able to run the original SSBB. The wiikey can play a backup of SSBB, but not the original.

(ModChipCentral has confirmed that the new update works with original SSBB)
It looks like the update will be released sometime tomorrow.
:-)))

Hi all, I am deperate in need of help here after searching through countless forums and pages of Google search. I have decided to post here as I find this forum having a more consistent and detailed solutions to problem posted here.
I have the same Wii problem like anyone else, not able to read any backups and only 2 weeks after updating to 1.9G. Here is my story....
Firmware Update to 1.9g
- Filechopped wiikey 1.9g update
- Burnt using ImgBurn into Sony DVD-RW
- Updated firmware successfully
- Able to play SMG for like two weeks
2 weeks later
- Powered on Wii with Zelda: TP in it
- LCD tv shows start up screen and suddenly went back to main menu
- Attempt to re-start Zelda but receive disc read error instead
- Same goes for my remaining backup discs :(
Attempts to recover
After reading through forums including this one, i gather that the only path available for my Wii is to recover using 1.9b recovery disc. There are many versions on the steps to take to have a successful recovery and I attempted most of them as follows:
- Burnt 1.9b recovery, no filechop, to Verbatim DVD-R @ 1x
- Burnt 1.9b recovery, filechop, to Verbatim-R @ 1x
- Burnt 1.9b recovery, no filechop, to Verbatim-R @ 4x
- Burnt 1.9b recovery, filechop, to Verbatim-R @ 4x
- Burnt 1.9b recovery, filechop & GCOS, to Verbatim-R @ 4x
- Start up the wii using original disc, put in the recovery disc and reset, wait for 5-8 mins before power off and on the wii.
- Start up the wii, go into the disc menu to see the disc read error, put in the recovery disc and reset, wait for 5-8 mins before power off and on the wii.
- Start up the wii, put in the recovery disc and reset, wait for 5-8 mins until the GC screen comes on before power off and on the wii.
I have attempted the above but to no avail. Am I missing anything?

no update has stopped backups from working save the wiikey setup disc. if your wii connect24 was on for an extended period of time, i can offer this:
if the wii or wiikey is especially hot (computers/gpus are similar) the wii may not be able to read the disks. turn off your wiiconnect24 and try letting it cool down a bit (about 30 min would do it). then reinsert the disc and try again. make sure the wii is in a cool, well-ventilated area. for some reason, the wii gets very hot over time while its on wiiconnect24 standby.

you need to file chop it. All the information is found on the first page, or you can get the padded version which is burn ready and makes life a lot easier it just takes a touch longer to extract.

Heya. firstly id like to thank everyone for this forum because it has been very helpful. next is my question:
If i don't run any homebrew on my wii, is it safe to install the new update for the wiiware channel? this is thinking that anything i make with WiiUI is not homebrew, isn't it?
Well, thanks again!

hmm.. we bought the wii with the wiikey in but with no wiikey disks.. we did try turning it off un hooking the inet ect and still the discs wont play ..still wont play now its been off for several hours now
you think we over heated the wiikey or somthing sim?
must addmit we are kinda thick with tech stuff, only bought the chiped wii so our hyper son could play a large selection of games with a low price tag..

Yes, it is safe and you are correct.
It appears that the update is aimed at the homebrew scene. Surely a reaction caused by the release of the Datel Freeloader.

Usually when the Wiikey stops reading backups and the Wii doesn't even recognize GCOS discs (no GC logo in the disc channel), then either the soldering broke/went bad somewhere or the Wiikey is dead.
The following is a typical experience in this case from somebody in the same situation:
Quote: Well, i opened up the wii and all my contacts visually seemed fine. I checked continuity from the wiikey chip to the panasonic chip on the wii board. The connection between the first pin of the actual wiikey and the 8th pin of the panasonic chip never dropped to zero as it had with the others. Definitely went close to zero, but definitely different from the other contacts. Soldering braid in hand i took of all the solder at the 6th contact, and reflowed new solder. Works fine now. Contact looked fine before hand, and resistance almost dropped to zero ohms, but i guess a little flux mix in my solder was enough to increase resistance and caused the chip to stop working. So.... hopefully this will help someone else. Resistance from chip to chip should be zero for all four contacts, a little resistance is enough to keep the chip from working properly.
As you can see even a slight continuity problem between two joints can cause the problem.

it's a problem with YOUR setup. i just tested it again, and it works just fine. check your security settings and your firewall and/or router. either that, or you or a friend in the region tried to hack them and they banned your ip range. ;)

Hi, am i doing any steps wrongly? Which of the following 3 shall i stick to?
1) Start up the wii using original disc, put in the recovery disc and reset, wait for 5-8 mins before power off and on the wii.
2) Start up the wii, go into the disc menu to see the disc read error, put in the recovery disc and reset, go into the disc menu to see the disc read error, wait for 5-8 mins before power off and on the wii.
3) Start up the wii, put in the recovery disc and reset, wait for 5-8 mins until the GC screen comes on before power off and on the wii.
Thanks

ok.. so what your saying is that there is no way an original SSBB should be playing if the wii key was working. It should only play back-ups. and if it is playing the ssbb game and all originals then only one thing should explain that and it should be that the wii key is broken or loose. Is there anyway to fix this problem or what do you recommend me to do? Thanks so much

Latest info about the upcoming Wiikey Update [as posted on GBATemp]:
Quote: Forum member OzModChips has brought to light the first solid information about the new Wiikey update that is currently in the hands of resellers.
The new firmware update called 1.9X and config disc 1.4, allows the original Smash Bros. Brawl to be loaded finally along with two new config disc features, dev mode and update blocking. It is currently unknown what dev mode does, however update blocking appears to work like a firmware built-in version of brickblocker.
The fabled Wiikey update has NOT been released to the public, but is currently undergoing testing.
