You could get this ide to sata adapter Monoprice
It works great, I am using one right now for one of my hard drives.

I received the SATA drive I purcahsed off eBay. The model # is LGE-DMGDR-H10N(B) or better known as the GDR-H10N. I put this drive in and connected it via the SATA cord. The drive works fine reading DVD discs, but it does not read the Wii discs. I have Rawdump 2.0 & .net 2.0 installed, so I have all the programs necessary. I keep getting an error "Error!! You migh have a faulty drive!!" every time I try to dump the disc. Is there any suggestions? I think I may go the route of buying the GDR-8164b and putting it in an enclosure. I thought the SATA drive would work since it was posted on another website that it works in dumping the discs. This is the site http://wiki.nintendo-scene.com/index.php?title=Wii_Disc_Backup that said the drive would work. The particular drive I have says its an HP drive, but I assume that it was manufactured by LG.

Ok seeing as no-one replied to my post BASICALLY if you get an "arithmetic . . . . " error it basically means that theres some physical problem with dvd disc even though the error makes it seem as if theres something wrong with the program.
Anyway i hope that helps you guys. Peace

Anytime I got arithmetic error it turned out to be dirt on original game dvd.
After cleaning it and reinstalling it rawdump will ask you if you want to continue.
Say NO and start a new dump or else your backup will error while you are in the middle of playing the game.

If your original isn't dirty I would suspect a scratch.

hello bunny c,

i have searched through all this section of the forum. i'm kind of new to this, maybe i'm missing something. rawdump works fine, the burn seems to go off with no hitch. burning at slowest speed with high quality media. verbatim dvd - r not the plus kind. my wii has been modded by an electrician and the original discs work, but now where i'm having trouble is loading those backup discs that i made. the lg drive you told us to use i ordered from newegg as well. i'm wondering if you know what's going on because the threads quote some people saying that after a mod their systems won't read either backup or original, but mines working fine except for the backups. they take their wiikeys out and original works! mines opposite i guess..... so could you please send me an email asap? i'd appreciate any of your expertise!

p.s. also the setup disc i burnt and it came out to the same size as a gamecube game but it won't read for some reason. gives me the error message unreadable disc please consult wii manual or something. also i'm running 2.2u? for usa i guess? i've supplied all i could, i just hope you can help me out somehow! thanks!

Nero, Alcohol 120% and others will do a copy of a backup without having to redump the image. Some people have had mixed success with it though i have backed up a backup successfully with Alcohol 120% as i get an error message if i try to redump with RawDump from the backup. Try it and see its your only way to know for sure.

Try different media. I tried 5 different kinds, including authentic Taito Yuden DVD-r, TDK DVD-R, some generic DVD+r, Sony DVD+r and RiData-R, all with Zero success. I tried TDK DVD-RW and have had all but one backup play.

Originally I was able to boot the WiiKey Setup disk and GC Backups, but no Wii backups. I removed RawDump2.0, re-downloaded it, re-ripped the game and then burned to DVD-RW. With success. I tried burning older images (created prior to removing and re-downloading RawDump2.0), and none of them work.
I'm personally wondering if I had a bad copy of RawDump.

The image files sizes are right on, just none of them boot. I have since made new backups, and they are all playing perfectly.

ok thanks, so basically just try different brands. i will look for the tdk. but you think dvd - rw might work? i read that it might be bad for the laser. but if you say so then i will try. could dvd + r work as well? but basically since my wii still reads originals with the wiikey installed you think the installs ok right? just the media? i will also redownload rawdump and try doing a different rip. the one on your tutorial is that a good copy? i was about to give up bunny c, but thank you for your advice! i'll try it and let you know!

Okay, I was able to rip the disc with the LG drive, which is mounted in a separate housing and connected to my laptop via USB 2.0 cable. It rips fine, the file size is correct, but when trying to burn using either Imgburn or Nero, both programs hang. I opened debug mode in Imgburn and the last bit keeps repeating over and over... error msgs reads: "SENSE Interpretation: no reference position found" I figured it might be the disc, so put in another disc; same thing happens. Maybe there is no support for USB 2.0 in Imgburn? The Rawdump functioned just fine with the same drive/USB 2.0 combination. Anyone else using a separate drive cabinet with USB 2.0 with success? Here is the log:

I originally posted my problem on page 39. someone recommended DVD-RW, and I didn't have a problem....after the re-downloading.

The best way I found to see if the chip was working, was to use a GameCube backup. I was able to play a GC backup, but not a Wii backup, therefore I know the chip was working, that there were just problems with my Wii backups.

If available, you might want to try a GC backup.

Ok since I don't have the LG drive yet I have been attempting to backup using bit torrent. 2 of the six games I tried worked when playedthe others pop up the notorious ? mark could this be the files or is there something else that could be causing it. The 2 that play are both sports games. The Bigs and Madden '08. Mario Party 8 loads the main screen but once you start the screen goes black and then you have to unplug to reboot. the others just won't boot at all. Oh sorry and I have gotten the Fantastic 4 Rise of the Silver Surfer to work. Makes me lean towards the other files or media being bad. I have tried reburning and still no better. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! For some reason answers for me are hard to get.

Originally put this in the wrong post. UPDATE
GDR-8160B recognizes the wii disks also when using RawDump2.0
I know these 5 drives are becoming scarce because everyone is trying to pick them up but i did find a place that does carry these five drives. http://www.bluestarusa.com / BlueStar Computers
I will see if i can call them back and get a contact for people on here who are looking to purchase compatable drives. cost me $29.00 which isn't bad considering it was shipped the same day i ordered it. If anyone else knows of any other GDR drives that worked which are not listed, reply to this thread and I will edit this and add it to the list to help keep everything in one place

I just spoke with one of the sales reps from the above company, he gave me the ok to give his aim contact info for inquiries about the DVD drives. BlueStarJoeB is his aim name and to IM for availability on the drives below.

5 DVD Drives are Compatable to read wii games now.
GDR-8160B
GDR-8161B
GDR-8162B
GDR-8163B
GDR-8164B

I thought I would add an update about my modding experience. I originally ordered an SATA DVD-ROM drive (GDR-H10N) so that I could put it in my PC case (I already have 2 optical drives). This drive did not work reading the Wii games. I then ordered the LG-8164b from eBay and it worked great! But I still have my delimma about the optical drives. So I ordered a IDE to SATA adapter for $7 off eBay, which did not work with the optical drives (PC would not recognize the drive, and my PC would freeze). I decided to try the adapter with my HDD and it worked great! So I now have my IDE HDD connected through the adapter to SATA, and my 3 optical drives are connected with the 2 IDE cables. I was able to install the Wii Key the in about 1hr including taking apart the Wii (the Wii Key was a lot smaller than I had expected, but I was able to get it to work the 1st time). As for dumping the games, this tutorial is right on the money and my 1st backup worked awesome!!!

Wii Key 1.9s firmware
3Ghz Intel Cel dual core
Sony DRU-810A DL DVD+/-RW
Nero software
Ritek 4x DVD-R/RiData 2.4X DL DVD+R
