There is a drop-down where the LG drvice will be listed. (There will not be a drive letter.) You then just click "Start Dump"
I know there is a drop down, but the drop down is blank. I have LG GDR-8163 by the way. So then what?

The contents of this file could become outdated very quickly because the modding scene is exploding right now. I will do my best to keep it updated so if you see the date is really old shoot me an email and I will update it or at least say that nothing really revolutionary has happened in the modding scene. Click below to access the tutorial on backing up your Wii ad Gamecube discs. Remember that to play the backups you will need a modchip! The modchip is rapidly changing and I will be outlining this in my next article which is due sometime later this week.

First step in copying your games for backup purposes is to get the right software and hardware. You will need one of the following DVD drives to copy games(no others will work). I received a pm that some people were having trouble locating the drives. If you go to newegg you can't just search for the model for some reason. You have to browse DVD-ROM drives then LG drives. Here is a direct link to the one I have http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16827136088

* LG-8164b
* LG-8163b
* LG-8162b
* LG-8161b

Personally I have the 8164b and have had zero problems. I'm sure the others are fine also. I ordered mine from http://www.Newegg.com.

Once you install this drive into your computer you will need to download a few applications.

*Raw dump 2.0

.net Framework 2.0

* Software to unzip the Raw Dump files.Winrar

Once you download the files above then right-click on the rawdump2.0.rar and select "Extract to rawdump2.0\"
this will make a folder on your desktop called rawdump2.0.

Now insert your Wii or Gamecube game into the LG drive that you have ordered and installed. Then open the rawdump2.0 folder and double click on the rawdump2.0.exe file.

After doing this you will be presented with the following interface. If your wondering what all the buttons are next to me close and minimize buttons it is a program called UltraMon for multiple monitor setups. Just ignore this. I am also running the Zune Windows XP Theme.

The next step is to just click "Start Dump." On my computer this process took just about 2.5 hours. When it is complete you will be greeted with a nice finished message. The file it creates will be in the same directory as the rawdump.exe file. It should be called "Game Name.iso." This ISO is an image of the actual game and is ready to be burned. You can burn this image with many different applications, but I will be providing screenshots for Nero Burning Rom.

This step is very important. You need to check your file and see how many KB large it is. To do this Right-Click on your iso(this is in your rawdump directory) and select properties. It should say,

Nintendo Wii ISO size: 4.37 GB (4,699,979,776 bytes).

Nintendo Gamecube ISO size: 1.35 GB (1,459,978,240 bytes)

All Nintendo Wii and Gamecube images will be this exact byte size. If your Wii image is off by any then you have a bad dump and need to try again.

So next step is to open Nero.

The first step once nero opens it to just cancel out of the create new dvd/cd/etc dialog. Once you have exited from this dialog you go to Recorder->Burn Image.

After making it this far you are almost done. When you click burn image you will be asked to locate the image. The image will be located [img]in your Rawdump2.0 folder. For me, this is on the desktop.
http://www.wiiville.net/images/stories/w...elect.jpg[/img]

Select the game that you have dumped with rawdump and click open. You will then be presented with the below dialog. Make sure to select a relatively slow burn speed at first to attempt to prevent DRE's(Disc Read Errors). These seem to be common among people that do not use high quality dvd's. For a thread dealing with media check here.

I hope this mini-guide helps you. If you have any questions or I said something wrong please post a comment below. Also stay tuned because as soon as my tri-wing driver arrives I will have a detailed modding tutorial using the Cyclowiz modchip.

This helped me until I opended RawDump and clicked the drop down and my LG DVD Rom didn't show up. Help please?

Hi There!

I don't know why other guys are having problems. I Had my Wii Modded for me and have no problems so far, I'm burning my purchased back-ups on Cheap $20 Memorex 50 Pack 16X 4.7GB DVD+R. Burner use Sony DRU-820A. All my stuff to burn and play purchased back-ups came under $400. DVD-R's, Burner, Wii system, LG DVD-ROM and more! Wii, This stuff is easy!! My Wii is a Launch system.

Just one question: If i have no problems, Do i really need to update the firmware to v1.9 when it comes out?

Thanks, Key4Wii Guy!

I am not sure as yet as I cannot check that the wikey is working
after reading the forum you can write a dvd backup with any dvd writer using 3 or 4 speed there is some indication you may need to use some prefered discs,

Personally, I would wait for a new chip to come out, but here is a guide to use a dremel to expose the pin legs.

You will need to look at the download on the right of the page.

Anytime I received a .NET error is was something like a buffer overflow. You will want to clean the disk and try again. 99.9% of the time there is a scratch or mark that is causing the problem.

Also make sure your hard drive has enough space, and is formatted NTFS.
(If your Hard Drive is formatted FAT32, the max size of a single file is 4Gb.)

You can also dump the original using your Wii, and a SD card. The WiiKey setup disk allows you to dump the Original to a SD card. You then need to transfer the SD to your computer. You then need to return the SD to the Wii, and continue the dump. (As a limitation of the Wii or Setup Disk; the largest SD card that can be used is 2Gb.)

hey

i just came onto the modding scene (for wii at least) and looked up the LG drives on newegg, and found that they dont exist (at least on that site or one that i can search by model/company) anymore.

they have two other LG drives available..

so my question is, has anyone testing dumping a Wii game with something other than those 4 LG models?

what about a different LG model, or a different reader all together?

thanks :)

I will see if i can call them back and get a contact for people on here who are looking to purchase compatable drives. cost me $29.00 which isn't bad considering it was shipped the same day i ordered it. If anyone else knows of any other GDR drives that worked which are not listed, reply to this thread and I will edit this and add it to the list to help keep everything in one place

I just spoke with one of the sales reps from the above company, he gave me the ok to give his aim contact info for inquiries about the DVD drives. BlueStarJoeB is his aim name and to IM for availability on the drives below.

5 DVD Drives are Compatable to read wii games now.

Can you post the firmware and version of your 8160B?

Hey. Does anybody know about modding the newer Nintendo Wiis. I've beem told that Nintendo recently issued newer wiis that are harder to modify. I have already tried sending mine out to get modded but the guy told me that mine is the newer version and cannot be modded. Any info would be great. I have already bought the LG dvd-rom drive and downloaded the software. Help please!

You probably have a D2C chip. Currently there is no chip for that chipset. You can do a search for Wii D2C, and you can find some pics.

Looks like you will have to play the waiting game.

Do i just burn them the same as dvds?

Yes, they should just be ISO files. Most people have successfully used Nero or ImgBurn.

Enter your serial number here to see what version you have:

If you are lucky, your "newer' Wii might be a D2B, and it just requires a few more steps to modify:
