hey this is for bigd,
are you sure the only ones that worked for you were tdk dvd-rw ? i'm trying everything but to no avail. i tried to find the tdk dvd-rw at a store but they're not in stock. don't even carry them. i just wanted to ask once more before i decided to order them online or just to give up trying to backup wii's totally. thanks bigd!

Try RITEK discs. They are the best for all console backups. Never had a bad burn with Ritek's. Fingers Crossed

I will try some other media, with good known backups, and let you know the results tomorrow.

hello I have had my wiikey in for a couple months now and everything was going fine. I could play backed up wii games and gc games. I had no known problems. Suddenly my wii isnt able to play any type of wii games backed up or even original wii games. But it is able to play gamecube games. Has anyone else run into this problem. Does anyone know the solution to this. Could it be my actual wii or is it the wiikey causing the problem. Worse case scenario would I have to replace the dvd drive. Please Help.

I just burned a good know .ISO backup (which worked with the dvd-rw), onto a Ritek RiData G05 DVD-R, and it works in my Wii.

I recently modded my Wii with WiiKey and installed my LG drive. I downloaded Raw Dump and .Net 2.0 and I open Raw Dump but there is no drive or anything listed where you choose which drive you want to use. Can someone help me please? Am I doing something wrong?

What does backing up really mean? Does it mean you can just burn games and just play it after modding your wii?
Can someone clarify for me? I have a Wii and was bought about a month ago. And I want to Mod it but I just don't have any clue.
HELP!!!!

backup means making a copy of the wii game you already own so you can store your original game disk in a safe place and let your kids play the wii game using the backup disk. When that back up dosen't work anymore (due to scratches) you can make another copy of your original.
The backup disk will not work in a wii that hasn't been modified,
that is why everyone here does a mod on their wii.
go to the beginning of this thread( start at page1) and read slowly everything you need to know is in this thread.
here is a link to do the mod on your wii:

OK. I get it. But it doesn't mean you can play free games unless you can get a backup copy of another game...
And that basically means you need to buy the real game anyway... My question now is are there any like sites that already have games uploaded and just let us download it and burn it so you can play on a Mod'd Wii?
HELP!!!!

I see, so it's not specifically that the LG 816xB ROM drives are the only drives capable of reading the game disks, it's just that the Rawdump software was specifically written using the 816xB firmware?
In otherwords, the firmware of any other type of drive probably could have been used to write Rawdump also?

being new to mod chips and having read all of this forum I have a
question that i would like answered.
I have the wii console with the 3 pins removed and the d2b chip.
Also, I have wiikey mod chip that is compatable with the d2b chip.
Do I have to worry about the 3 missing pins?
Thank you.

As far as I am aware you will still need to mod to the missing pins. (Break out the dremel).

I should ignore you just like everyone else. It is illegal to have a copy of a game that you do not own. Therefore, it will not be discussed here, as to places to find such illegal downloads.
That being said: if you found this forum, you can probably find places to obtain illegal downloads.

There was an update that did not allow 'homebrew' applications not to run. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with this, as I have not done anything with homebrew outside of the WiiKey Setup Disk. You might want to search for problems that people had after an update, using their WiiKey setup disk.

There is a drop-down where the LG drvice will be listed. (There will not be a drive letter.) You then just click "Start Dump"

You might want to try the ImgBurn program. I have not had any recent problems with Nero 6. Are you selecting Disk-At-Once? How far along does it get burning?
Maybe a screenshot of the error might trigger some more thoughts.
