OK, I've been using BT since the beginning. But my speeds have been really crappy, my highest ever was 80, and that was only once. My average is 10-20. But I'm a really REALLY patient person so I didn't care how long it took to download something that's about 170 megs. So now I'm starting to download bigger and bigger files. And this speed just won't do. So I tried port-forwarding, and that didn't work. The NAT test says I pass. And the really funny thing is, I heard that a computer that uses a plain old modem without any routers go at normal speeds. That's wrong in my house. The computer with the modem in my house goes the same as the one with a router (the one I'm using). And now I'm stumped, I don't know what to do.

The only info I can give for anybody that can solve my problem is that the router is Netgear Model MR814 Wireless Router, and my receiver is a SMC2662W V.2. I know it's not location problem because my nextdoor neighbor goes at 10-25 times my average speed. Is it because it's wireless? Or maybe just a bad modem?

1. if you connect to a lot of peers and seeds then even if they are not giving or taking they are filling up your bandwidth with pings to your computer

limit your connections to 20

2. only download 2 files at a time that way you will get them quicker

3. limit your upload to 5kbs less than the limit of your upload or your computer cannot tell the other computers that it wants / or has got a file and send another

use this to find out your useable bandwidth

http://www.abeltronica.com/velocimetro/pt/?idioma=uk&newlang=uk

most of the slowness is down to using your bandwidth in the wrong way

hey i really need help, i only know a little bit about routers/modems etc.Anyways here it goes:

I have westell 2200 and verizon DSL, i used to download at relly good speeds when using bittorent a couple of months back(40-70kb/s) one day i had to reinstall windows and all of a sudden the BT speeds were crap.If i get past 15kb/s it will be for a second and then it will go back down to 5-10kb/s.I've tried some guides, and i still get crappy speeds.I opened the ports(i think) needed for BT and still...arg.

1st things 1st, if you have slow speeds with only your modem then your bit torrent client is probably set up wrongly, 80% upload/download ratio to your connection speeds works really well. 2nd, if all is ok with modem then your router is set up wrongly, go to portforward.com to see if your router is there and follow instructions. I have been using bt for over 2yrs now and can get speeds as high as, wait for it, 750kps depending on the site i use, I also get speeds as slow as 3kps, so it really does depend on where you get the files and the peers you're connected to, if too many peaople are connected wrongly you won't get good speeds. So keep trying you should get there in the end, good luck. PS. i recently switched to utorrent as Azurius was opening too many ports for my Voip phone to work well, so try this too.

Hi i have a router problem when using Utorrent.

I have this server wich is connected to the router and set to download torrents only, it is a full Windows XP computer with SP 2 installed, nothing special there.

When I use UTorrent from start there are no problems, but after a while when I downloaded some (and uploaded) every connection comes to a halt. And my Internet Explorer gives a error too. My computer above stairs works completly well internet wise.
When I reset my router things start to work again for my server, but the problem is that this happens very often let's say within a couple of hours.

My router is a SMC 7804 Wireless router with ADSL and 10/100 Mbit network. It's firmware is from 27/02/2004.

Any help would be appreciated.

Goddamit - have tried to follow instructions to improve torrent but no good - HELP!!please.
I followed CamDog's original instructions as closely as I could.

1. used dos, Netgear is, i think, the name used by Linksys in Australia because the 192.168.1.1 IP is the same.

2. went to http://192.168.1.1 and assigne Torrent to 6881 - 6889 in both formats for 192.168.1.100

3. went to windows firewall and did Torrent 6881-6889 individually in both formats in exceptions

4. no change in download speed, still a crappy 2 k/s

could somebody please talk me through this, the whole thing's got me feeling dyslexic because i think that there's a step i've missed or mistakenly added in and i'm not sure which or where it is. Thankyou kindly webtrekkies.

and if ur to retared to find ur router then you have some problems

http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm

and just finding ports for programs you can click on ur router and find the program or just go to this link

I think this page will help you a lot. Try this, a look if it works. This will help you fix the speed issue: http://vip.netsurf.ru/browse/?r=71549

hi
I use azerus.

My download speed used to be fine.

My friend installed a router for me.

Now my download speed sucks.

The down speed goes at high as 115 kb/s for about 20 minutes before dropping down to 1 kb/s

Do i have to configure my router? Azerus does not say that there are any problems with the problem...

If i follow the procedure on the 1st page will there be a security risk?

Mrs X

Regards

If you do not forward these ports, you wont be able to connect to other people that havent forwarded these ports either, if you forward these ports you can connect to everyone
