Yeah, you are right. It seems many people (including myself) reported this drive as working. As of right now, with rawdump, it does not.

I am wondering an updated raw dump might handle it....

I've heard that the people who created rawdump are no longer working on the project, if anyone could confirm this it would be good. Though it seems like it because although a little glitchy the program isn't too shabby hey.

I am not sure what modchip I have. The guys who modded it for me said that I should never update off the disk, always through wi fi. Else it may brick the console. Any idea on the chip I have? It is a NTSC machine.

Metroid Prime 3 is not out yet in my country, going to buy it as soon as it comes out. In the mean time I downloaded it off the net and wrote it to disk. When I put it in my Wii, it wants to update. I have run the system update but it says there is no updates. Any ideas on how to get around this.

I tried to purchase the LG drive off of newegg.com and received an email from them stating the device was on back order and they don't allow back ordered items. Does anyone know another good site where I could purchase the DVD drive?

Is there a retail outlet that carries the drive? I checked ebay and there are only 3 listings and the guy is trying to fleece people by selling it for nearly $60!

Edit: I seem to have found a website that is selling the drives at reasonable prices, but they list the device as an GDR8164BB ... is this the same as the LG 8164B? Here's the link:

http://www.upgradenation.com/LG_DVD_8164...-id-560344.html

Here's another model I found, but again, there's an extra letter at the end:

http://www.gearxs.com/gearxs/product_info.php?products_id=8167

Does the extra letter represent the color of the drive or is it to designate a different model?

Hi

The letter is used to designate the color:

BB = BEIGE
BK = BLACK

The drive however is the exactly the same so you are safe to use it.

Thanks

Your instructions are very good and I followed them. I was able to create a ISO file but then I needed to burn it to DVD. I normaly don't use Nero. I use Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 Basic which did not work, I kept gettin a Unknown Error. I swithched to Nero and it butned with no problem. For some reason there is a prblem with Roxio ver 7.

just a quick update i am now backing up my Wii games using my lg gdr-8164b and rawdump with 100% sucsess everytime woohooo i knew i would get there in the end lol. As for my gamecube games i am using my gamecube which has the viper extreme usb chip and cobra backup software, also now with 100% sucsess, doing the gamecube games like this also works/plays perfect on my Wii. to burn the games (Wii/GC) i am using my pioneer 111d and using ritek g05 dvdr's and burning them at 8x, ive always used these to do my PS2 games and movies as i have found that they work 99.9% of the time. any way thanks for all the help guys.

chippy :)

Most of us here have resolved our problems, or don't run into problems. Because we have not ran into YOUR problem, all we can offer are suggestions.

If it is dumping some of the file, but fails at a certain point, it seems to be a problem with the disk.
Were you able to backup a different game?
No I've only been able to try it on MP3 and MK:(the wii one) but neither work. MK has more scratches and stops dumping sooner than MP3 which only has like one or two scratches and stops right before it's done. While playing them neither freeze or have any problems but dumping wont work. It always says the overflow thing.

Also I just want it clarified if I can burn the game onto a disk using something besides an LG drive. I cant say which kind because right now I'm using another computer but if someone could just tell me if it's possible then I'll post the drive I have later.

You can burn the image with any DVD burner.
You can only dump with one of the LG DVD-ROM Drives.

That drive has been tested and most reports are that it does not work.

Check the first post in this thread, you need one listed there.
