What I have heard is -r media is better than +r, and if you are having trouble, try a slower burn speed (4 or 6x)

I need help, cause I'm either doing something wrong or seriously slow... I followed the tutorial to back-up wii games (went out and got all the right gear to get it done) but when I try to burn the image file on a DVD, I keep getting an error message. I'm using Easy-CD creator (not sure if that has anything to do with it) but I'd really appreciate any help.
Like I said, got everything ready to burn, file's the right size... just cant get it burnt.
Thanks!!!

You might want to try IMGBURN, it is free.

Originally posted by phaez1: ok, finally have my wiikey installed and just tried a couple of games and none of my backups work, the dump was fine, burned at 2.4x, i'm using memorex dvd+r. the original games are working just fine but i'm getting nothing with the backups. any suggestions? continuity on all my connections are good.
do i need to burn and run the setup disk before anything will work? and i need to burn it onto a dvd+/-r i'm assuming
I found that my Wii would boot the setup disk and GC backups, but I had problems with the Wii backups. I would see if any of those work first.
I removed rawdump, and downloaded a new copy, then the backups I created worked.

Ok, I'm new and apologize if i have missed this in reading a dozen pages of posts, but can someone list all the working dvd rom drives working for this now? I have seen 4 but now new ones are emerging and I haven't read any confirmation saying they have actually worked.. thanks all.

From what you describe, the drive is damaged and probably not repairable without sending to a repair center.

FriiDump is working awesome for me without a conversion process like RawDump which makes the time around the same for both methods. FriiDump is taking me on the 8164B around 1 hour to rip the complete disc to ISO format. I would highly suggest it if you are not scared of the command prompt, it's clean easy and very fast.
Anyhow anyone needing any help I will gladly help on this side. I ordered the chip, does anyone know anyone that can do the soldering in CA or should I just do it myself, is it an easy job?
Let me know, and thanks for all the community help!

I'm having an issue with be able to play the ISO's i download off the internet. I downloaded metroid prime corruption burnt it on my laptop put it in my wii and it doesnt recongize the disc. gives a black screen with an turn off ur wii and refer to your manual error. i know my wiikey is working since i can play the japanese version of bleach (real copy), and my laptop's dvd burning works since i had once burnt the wiikey config 1.2 onto it and thats how i unlocked the region coding. but i think my wiikey is have a problem in recongizing burnt dvds now. im assuming it was because i updated my wii a month or two ago...i tried putting the wiikey 1.2 config disc back in and it wont read that anymore and gives the same black screen error as metroid prime. im wondering if theres any way to disable/reverse wii updates? or perhaps there is something im missing?

I dont believe so since the wiikey config 1.2 disc did work once a upon a time. but now it doesnt load the 1.2 disc that use to work on my wii. i think it was the wii updates.

OK, I have the wiikey installed and borrowed a backup froma friend who has the lg dvdrom that works for backing up, I have read on here that after you burn the backup you can copy the backup just like a cd or any data disk, however I cannot get this to work, i have used various speeds, and media, -r +r dif brands such as verbatim memorex sony i have used imgburn, nero,I have my lg drive on the way, it would seem I have to try and rawdump the backup as a original, could this be the case? Please advise.. Thanx all.

Is there any other way of playing Wii backups other than using a modchip? Or is a modchip the only way right now?

Can you backup and play Gamecube games on the Wii with this method. If so do you need to use gamecube size discs or can you use regular dvd size discs to play backuped gamecube games on the wii?
