I just use my PSP and Action Reply MAX...

Just plug in your PSP to your PS2 with the USB cord and copy over your saves.

Yeah, this is really my goal too. I don't need or want cheat codes and such, I just want to transfer files to and from my PC. There must be a cheaper way than buying all this software and buring stuff.

Right now I am really pissed off. I broke down and bought AR Max Evo, since it was the easy way, and I was impatient this weekend. Well, my PS2 won't read CD's, so I am out 45$! I have tried to burn the CD to DVD, but I can't get it to work. I have the CD ISO file saved, but I can't get it to burn to DVD. I am stuck, and I don't want to spend more money on things that MIGHT work. Why can't programs and electronic equipment just work...sigh.

I have a problem.... I just ran through this guide today and got everything intact (pretty easy) I transfered the US version of GTA 4 to my memory card and comfirmed it was there, After attempting to load it on GTA 4 i noticed there was no save for it and it started me off as a new game, I seen a similar problem in the first page of this thread but it has not been answered, Can anyone help :( The file was named corrected and i used McPaste as directed.

Please disregard my last post i a sorry for double posting but i just figured out my problem, I downloaded the "PlayStation2 CodeBreaker Save (North America)" version at first and it wouldn't read it so i proceeded to downloading the "PlayStation2 Max Drive Save (North America)" Version and it works just fine now :)

Great tutorial nicely written and very helpful 10/10 from me :D

Also why burn it to CDR and not DVD-R (or inded +R)?

Thats a nice idea. It doesn't matter which one you burn it one. Burning it on CDs are cheaper, and you won't have to waste precious DVDs.

i got the software above from http://www.exploitstation.com in the downloads section.
a link to the codebreaker download would be much appreciated;free or cracked of course.is it possible that you can't this app for free nowhere on the web???????!!!!! original PS2 DVD's are very expensive around these parts, and when you get to buy it expensive the game will like 1-2 years outdated, can make you laugh doesn't it?

FREE DEXDRIVE ALTERNATIVE
equipment needed:
-a borrowed usb thumbdrive.
-a borrowed PS2.
-your pc and your PS1 :)

-PSXRC is a tool that can't work without PSXGE and ULaunchELF.
-ULaunchELF is needed for the transfer from the PS1 to the PC.
-PSXGE is needed to extract and insert "single game saves" from or into "full memorycard images".

-"single game saves" have the extention (.mcs) AND NOT (.mcr)
-"full memorycard images" may have different extensions (*.gme dexdrive,*.mcr epsxe)
-you MUST understand the difference between (.mcr) and (.mcs).

PSXRC can convert single game saves extracted from any full memcard (*.gme,*.mcr) compatible with PSXGE into raw saves.
wich mean that you have first:
-to extract your save "from a full memcard" (*.gme,*.mcr) using PSXGE.
-then convert the extracted "single game save" (*.mcs) using PSXRC.
-then do the transfer to your real PS1 memcard using ulaunchelf.

and it can also convert raw saves extracted from your real psx memcard using ulaunchelf (last version recommended) into "single game saves" compatible with PSXGE.
wich mean that you will have:
-to transfer "raw saves" to your pc using ulaunchelf.
-then convert the transfered "raw saves" using PSXRC.
-then insert your sngle game saves(.mcs) into a "full memcard" (*.gme,*.mcr) using PSXGE.

-use PSXRC by drag&drop'ing the files on it..
..(raw or .mcs) NOT (.gme or .mcr) :D

PSXRC can be found at: ps2savetools.com

Well, after reformatting my current USB flash drive, I'm able to transfer my save from the drive to my PS2, following the exact steps posted. After transferring my GTA: Vice City save, I check the Browser to verify that it's been transferred, and sure enough, there is the Vice City icon, no corrupt or anything. However, when I put in the Vice City disc and try to play the game, it doesn't seem to detect the save and just goes to the opening scene. The save appears to be transferring fine. It's just that the GTA disc doesn't seem to load it.
I got the same problem here. I´m trying to transfer a save for GTA Liberty City Stories. The problem is in the name of a specific file. When you try to export the files from save file, the first one in PS2 save builder is like this "1: Home Sweet Home" (for example, in Liberty City). The problem is that Windows does not accept ":" as a character in the file name. Then PS2 save builder does not export this file. In the destiny directory appear a file like this: "1" and it´s 0 bytes size. I´m trying to rename the file, but I ain´t getting. I tried on linux, and couldn´t either. I´ll try to figure it out. If anyone has a suggestion, it would be nice....

This happens in any game from GTA series: Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City, ...

Suggestions are welcome...

Sorry for my bad english...

hi dan168, im a newbie here. i have a modified PS2 slim unit where you can play original and non-original games. i would like to ask if using uLaunchELF will still works on modified PS2? i've just tried your tutorial on how to copy game saves to PS2 memory card bcoz i would like to use the game saves i got from gamefaqs about Ace Combat Zero and unfortunately it didn't work. this is the setup ive done. i created my own cdimage and tried it on my modified PS2 and the cd loads ok without using Swap Magic. but when i browse under mass:/ it is empty. ive used the 256MB memory stick of my sony digicam. from the digicam i connect it to the USB of the PS2. do i should really used USB flash? do i still have to use Swap Magic in booting up?
ive also tried creating another cdimage where i include the folder save game (within it are the files extracted from PS2 Save Builder) since the PS2 cannot detect my digicam memory stick. ive succesfully copied the folder save game from the cdimage to my memory card but when i viewed it in the memory card the file is corrupted data.
thank you very much in advance. would very much appreciate your feedback. im very eager to see all the planes unlocked in Ace Combat. happy new year =)

Sorry to butt in, but is there a place where I can see all the ID Codes such as BASLUS-21005-07.

All the saves on GameFaqs are American games and all my games are in Europe so I need to swap the code names to get them to work.

Thanks in advance!!

What you can do is check your own European save files for the code, then replace the American ones.

How is this possible ? i just tryied myself with the psp i did everything as the guide says copied over the savegame and the launcher but i see no such folder when i turn on my ps2.

This i dont understand.

6) Load uLaunchELF on your PS2, browse to your USB flash (under mass:/). Locate the folder you just copied, then press R1 and select ?Copy? to copy the entire folder

Do you mean to just put all the ulanchELF files that are RAREd to the Root of the memory stick on my psp ? cause ive done that and i dont see this option in the ps2.

Also my ps2 is not modified or anything like that.

Glad I found this. I have a 250GB USB HD and I followed the tutorial from page 1 and it works perfect.

I needed the gamesave for Outlaw Volleyball as the cheat codes for unlocking characters wouldnt work on my ps2. So this way I have totally unlocked the characters, etc.

Thanks for keeping this going.

this method is what ive done on many games and until now no problems, (it skips the creating folder part)
create a save from the game your playing, just run the game, go to menu and choose save, so that you create the "folder" automatically on the memory card, then extract only the data archive of the save(besles123456gamename for example) and finally using launchelf and usb go to the folder with the same name of the save, paste and thats it
