I burned the WiiKey 1.3 iso on a Pioneer 111 with Verbatim DVD-R 16x media. I get the same message.

Should the backup load first time I put it in the console or do I need to run the Wiikey Configuration Disc first before backups will work?
Trying burning the iso's max. 8x, sometimes it takes a 2nd time to load the backup.

The WiiKey configuration should be changed only if your in North America trying to play Japanese NTSC games, otherwise, you don't have to change the configuration from your moded console.

How long does it take to back up a game? I saw this...

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/home-entertai...ames-229104.php

50 hours can't be right. Or should I be expecting ridiculous hours like this?

Its an old article but even so the guy is an idiot. The dumping of the game takes 2.5-3 hours. and burning to a blank disc depends on the speed you burn. So the minimum time for a successful dump and burn is around 3-3.5 hours not 50.

H i now have a LG 8164 drive and can read the wii games just trying to dump a few at the moment.

I have some games that are back ups but dont load or have disk read errors, in my last post i was told i can just copy the game with the errors from drive to drive without dumping the game.

I have nero 8 can you tell me how to copy a game stright from my dvd drive to my dvd burner. ie: what type of dvd is it a movie dvd or data dvd?

Not sure how to do it can someone give me a walk through guide as both my dvd drive and burner are new and i have never burned dvd before.

Many thanks in advance for any help

Nero really isnt the best program for burning the ISO. I find imgburn the best and its free. As far as discs are concerned i find Ritek discs are the go they are reliable and the cost cannot be beaten. just my $0.02 worth.

Thanks for all the posts guys!! I love the modding scene! After my Wiikey didn't work becase of those 3 legs being cut off of the little friggin' B2B chip, I went to the garage and got my Dremel and ground the plastic off of the edge of the chip, soldered the 3 wires (which itself took about 2 extra hours for me, T E D I O U S ! !) But am now a happy backer upper!!

I got a GDR-8164B and it is working flawlessly with Rawdump. The whole Dremel/Grinding thing is not for everyone, and you might turn your nice new toy into a conversation piece/drink coaster/paper weight. But if you are brave and have mad soldering skills, go for it and good luck!! Do your homework first!

Thanks again fellow sceners and AfterDawn!!

Is this one game that this is happening to? If so, it sounds like a scratch or problem reading the disk.

If you get a .NET Overflow error when dumping there was a problem reading the disk.

Using Raw Dump it should only take 2.5 - 3 hours...thats it.

You can try cleaning the disk or try FriiDump.

An interesting thing happened to me this weekend... I have always used Ritek DVD-R discs without problems. All of a sudden, games I burnt would get the "disc can not be read" when the game starts up or in the middle (or, at the end of every song in GH3 before it would save... Annoying!) My SMG wouldn't read at all after the 1.9g update either, and it would at least see it and say an unauthorized device was installed before the update. I was very frustrated, so I grabbed a crappy no-name DVD+R that I use to backup movies and transfer data. Lo and behold, it worked flawlessly with every game I was having problems with, even SMG worked perfect the first time.

Weird!

Hi all ive been reading through this thread and have a few questions, i have a nintendo wii with a DC2 modchip installed.
When dowloading Wii games i have patched it with a program to prevent the game from flashing my wii- and have burnt them to dvd-r.

My problem is that when i put the dvd's in my computer it does not read the wii burnt disk and comes up with 0 bytes?? is that normal??

Hey Sylencer,

I have the GDR-8164B and it works great for dumping the wii disks with RAWDUMP(2.0). Keep in mind that this drive is a DVD-ROM which means it is NOT a burner, just a reader. It can read data from the disc that other drives cannot (subchannel data, etc). They go for about $50 including shipping. If you can't find one that cheap, go to consolesource.com since they have them in stock for $40(+$10SH).

If at first you don't succeed, scream, piss, moan, jump up and down, and try try again!!

Just want to add my suggestion to all of you who are still looking for the LG drive. Before buying online check out the small computer stores around your area coz that's where I got mine for less than 20$. It saved me the shipping cost!!!

I have Wiikey at 1.9b (not g) and its working fine with the Wii at 2.2u. I tried using dvddump 0.8 (on the 1.2 disc) to dump a GameCube game onto an SD card using SDGecko adapter. The dump was successful according to the on screen prompts. Using dumptool on my PC, it read the SD card and created an iso of exactly 1459978240 bytes, also correct.

It seemed like everything was working correctly. I then used ImageBurn to burn a Verbatim DVD. Again it was successful.

When I put the burned backup into the Wii, on the Wii menu it gives me the GameCube logo, and clicking the Wii controller, it goes to the GameCube screen with GameCube music playing.

However, when I click to start the game, the screen goes black, the drive flashes blue momentarily, and then stops. It just sits there, and the game never starts. I have a wireless GameCube controller hooked up. The original GameCube miniDVD disk plays fine when inserted, but the backup created does not.

Any ideas of what to check or try next?

BTW, does anyone have the .pdf manual for the GDR-8164B? I can't find it and wouldn't mind having it on file.

Thanks in advance!

(the GDR-8164BB is "Bulk Pack" (bare drive only, no manuals/cables, etc) and the BBK is "Black, Bulk Pack")

Bought the 8164 drive dumps games, bought the pioneer 112 dvd burner and all games work fine so thanks for the input.

Has anyone foud out a cheaper chip yet???? my brother has bought a wii and has been given a price of £100 for the chip and fitting as they say it is a new model and the chips have just come out for them????

Does anyone know if this is correct and if they can be chipped cheaper.

Thanks

Hi JayB,

The newest wii's (with the 'D2C drive chip') need a special modchip. For comparison, the 'wiikey' has 6 solder points (for older wiis), but the new 'd2ckey' for new wiis with the D2C chip has 30+ solder points. It really requires patience and wicked soldering skills to install, so the cost doesn't seem that unreasonable. It costs about $160 here in the USA for a chip and installation.

Regarding updates, I have not heard anything bad about them, I updated mine and haven't had any problems.

Weezy
