Hi,
I'm a beginner to this world so greatly appreciate if someone helps me get started with my Wii console US version.
I downloaded Mario Party ISO file that has the following name [Wii]Mario_Party_8[PAL][MULTI5][ESPALWii.com] in a WinRAR format. I then burned ISO file (size 4.3GB) using IMGBURN to a DVD but my Wii console is not recognizing and giving error message
"unable to read the disc
check the wii operations manual for help troubleshooting"

I first burned onto a DVD+R, then onto HP DVD-R & finally on Verbatim DVD-R but with no luck.
I also verified that Wii version is up-to-date.
Could someone help me what I need to do to play downloaded games with the process of burning them.
Is there a good place to download ISO games that are reliable?
Do I need to look for any particular formats of the games while downloading so I could burn successfully?

Thanks for looking into this & looking forward for a reply.
That sounds like my exact problem as well. Well put! Only sometimes I can get into the game very briefly, and then I get the error...

It's seems like all 3 of us are having the same problem. i get the same exact error message when putting in burnt DVDs , even a config 1.2 disc that i orginally changed my wiikey with to play imported games. and my wii still plays my imported games, just not burnt anymore ;_;
GUYS I MADE IT WORK!!! I thought the Verbatim DVD-r DVD's I got might be fakes, so I went to a store and bought some Sony DVD-r 16x speed ...burned with ImgBurn at 4x speed and VOILÀ!!!

Thanx 4 any help that might be useful!

Hi,

I have done some more tests on media. I bought some Philips dvd-r's thinking they would be manufactured by Philips but the giveaway should have been the made in India on the side!

I burned the iso's and they work every so often and then they can suddenly crash mid game.

I have a philips manufactured +rw disc which works fine but I only have one and can't source any original Philips media (maybe they don't make discs in house anymore)

Does anyone know if the +r/rw has more compatibility than the -r as this seems to be the case for me so far.

As per the previous post maybe I should source some Sony -r's

Newbazz do these consistantly work for you? My -r's work for a short time and then I get the can't read disc message.

Thanks

No kidding... I paid $20 US for my LG drive about 6 months ago...!

As for discs, these seriously work the best for me:

http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yud...vd-r-media.html

I have not had a single failure or game say "can't read disc" in the middle of the game with these like I have had with Sony and Ritek. Weird, but true. I bought them as cheap movie discs and only used them when I ran out of Riteks.

Hi,

Tried lots of media with varying results. Sony DVD-R 16x speed with accucore work like a dream. Success at last!

Try them and you will be impressed.

I know! This is a duplicate post, I didn't know how to delete the other one, so sue me! I installed all the above mentioned software and have the following error...

When I tell RawDump to "Start Dump" it detects the wii disc and then gives me the following error:

Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow.

Under the details tab I get the following:

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

If I tell it to continue, it Says "Getting DVD Name and just sits there. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Usually an Arithmetic Overflow is something physically wrong with the disk. Try cleaning the disk and trying again.

I have a problem i get some ISOs and some work and some don't.
A am able to burn them without a problem and when i put them in the Wii it says that it cannot read it.
Any input would be much appreciated.

I've tried Nero and imgburn and the affected ISO still cannot be read by the Wii. Is there a setting on the mod chip that needs to be activated?
I still need to do more tests but can it be because its a PAL game?

It's your media, most likely. If it were a PAL issue, it wouldn't say "can't read", it would show up in the channel, and then go black after you start the game.

Try Sony, they seem to be the best according to opinions here, or Ritek. They worked for me for a while, and then I switched to the ones I listed above (generic) and they have worked the very best. I haven't had one fail yet, and Riteks all of a sudden consistently failed halfway through the 100 disc cake I was working with.

Ah i have that problem, when i burn a dvd something simple like the latest wiikey config disc, my wii will show that its a gamecube game, but when i hit play it goes black and then says somethings broken and to restart you wii.

So what do you think the problem could be? I remember using the same exact type of DVDs when i burnt my first wiikey config and it worked. same DvD burner on my laptop.

Still sounds like media. If it were a PAL issue, the screen would just stay black, and not give any other words or error. It's weird, but the exact same thing happened to me, like I said. Same media, same burner, same everything. Riteks worked for a couple months, and then poof, every disc I burnt came out with an error. Switching media worked for me.

I was using TDK DVD+R and success rate was about 50%.
Then i tried TDK DVD-R and some of the ones that didn't work started working.
But when i get the error at startup none of them work. I ordered some riteks and will try them out this weekend. Hope it fixes my problem.

I use Verbatims and have 100% success. They were being made in Malaysia, although the last batch I got was now made in India. Not sure if they'll continue to be so dependable, but I've had great luck with them up to now.

As far as Sony, after they were caught installing rootkit spyware on PCs playing their CDs, I've avoided all Sony product. They settled in the US with a multi-million dollar settlement, most of which went to lawyers and corporations. But hundreds of thousands of PCs were infected, and Sony did it knowingly.

I'd avoid Sony.

I just got the ritek dvds and tried the image that wasn't working and it still gives me the same error.
Again most of the images i have work but some do not.
I'm having a hard time thinking that the image itself is no good. If that were the case others would have complained as where i get them when a file is no good it gets removed asap.
As i am new to this, is there a setting on the chip that needs to be done? Region? NTSC/PAL?
