Turn off the Windows firewall if you have it enabled.

yea i have it disabled and my dl speed is really weird now. I have 8 seeds, lol the download speed stays at like 0-6kb/s for a bit then shoots up to about 60-75kb/s for a bit then shoots back down and then stays there for a pretty long time, then shoots up but it downloads at a slow speed much longer than it is at a high speed. Is there a way for me to keep it there, get my max dl speed up or keep my min download speed higher...oh thanks a lot mistycat because i probably wouldn't have gotten this far without you anyways lol :)

I would leave things as they are. I think you'll find that most peers have downloaded the same amount as you and as they download more, you speed up to their level and then slow down till they have more to upload to you. In that case, I just pause the download for awhile to give the other peers time to outdistance me, so to speak, or you may find yourself uploading too much.

kk thanks a lot. maybe it's cause i don't have too many peers or because im downloading such a big file, in any case ill hopefully won't run into any more problems and it's just a phase azurues is having. oh and by the way, do you think i might have better luck or success with utorrent?

I don't think either Azureus or utorrent is a better client; utorrent is just lighter and less complicated.

For newbies, I would reccommend utorrent over Azureus just because it's less technical; big or small files should download at the same rate in either. As for private sites, you just have to keep checking back at their site until you can register. They clean out their membership on a regular basis due to low ratios, disuse, etc. I think Demonoid opens on Friday's for registration. You can get an invite from someone that is a member but don't ask for one at AfterDawn, it's against the rules and if someone gives out an invite to someone they don't know and who maintains a low ratio, both can get booted.

ok thanks. Oh and if you have a high upload speed compared to your download speed, is that a good or bad thing. Also my download is steady at 10kb/s-15kb/s, it doesn't rise anymore except for the occasional 25kb/s, any help?

A high upload speed can be bad in that if your ISP caps your bandwidth, you may upload an astronomical amount before you complete your download. That's when I either pause my download or turn my upload down. There is no help for your slow speeds except for more connections/time.

OMG my speeds are worst now, my download is at 54% but my speeds are horrible again ranging from 0-15kb/s but mostly at about 2-5kb/s and BARLEY EVER going up for about 15 seconds then falling hard down again. Do you think i should save the download and try it on utorrent with encryption and stuff because im getting sick of waiting, also people are saying that they are getting very good speeds there. Oh and by the way im using rogers.com with and my download/upload speed is 4790/369.

There's your answer; Rogers blocks torrents. See here: http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Bad_ISPs and here is a forum just for Rogers where you'll find tons of info on their throttling: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rogers

hmm kk thxs for the sight but it doesn't really give you an easy solution to the problem. Do you know how to make it faster with rogers.com, oh and do you know any other isp's in Canada that are very fast and don't have this problem (im thinking bell sympthatico)

The only way to speed up Rogers I have read is to get a new ISP. As far as i know, Bell doesn't throttle torrents but you can check here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/sympat Shaw blocks on the upload side and Telus doesn't block at all. Their speed isn't as fast but being DSL, is very consistent and their cap is low but on their enhanced package, anything under 200 G a month and definitely 125 G is ignored.

As far as I know, that's the only solution. If you don't download torrents, rhey're all fine.

Make sure Bell doesn't throttle torrents. I'm not sure, check their forum if torrents are the reason for the change.
