well, usually the more peers the faster the download. what is ur max download speed? do a speed test to determine this...
- http://www.dslreports.com/stest - scroll down to almost the end of the page and click on the third link of the three that say "Test speed using our server at..."
- on next page scroll down, wait for gray box to reappear, and click "Start" to start speed test.
Just because u are not downloading from some IPs dont mean they dont wanna share. u cant download from everybody, only 3-6 people.
h059 this is not a thread about image files (iso, cue, bin) but i'll help u anyway 'cuz i remember the first time i saw a cue file i said WTF do i do with these!!
U dont need to burn image files to a cd if u dont wanna waste the cd. u can...
- download "Daemon Tools". (look it up on google.com)
- install it, run it.
- a new windows taskbar icon appears, left-click it and click on "Device 0: [D:] No media"
- on the window that appears look for ONE of the files on CD1 u downloaded (cue, bin, OR iso. doesnt matter which). click "open".
After u click "open" the installation should come out automatically.
IF it doesnt go to "my computer". u may notice a new Drive on there, its called a virtual drive (meaning ur comp thinks u got an extra CD drive with a cd in it) , double-click it to start installation or right-click it and EXPLORE...
u can use this program to install stuff that comes in cue, bin, and iso files (and others too like .img files). Peace

make sure when u do test that u are NOT downloading anything or using ur connection.
694kbs is nice speed. divide that by 8 and u get 86. 86kbs is more or less the maximum download speed at which u can download stuff. average may be 15 or 20 kbs.
the port u enter as ur "listen port" u must forward on ur router (VERY IMPORTANT FOR GETTING HIGHER DL SPEEDS).
how to forward ports:
- go to Start>Run
- type "command" (without quotes), hit enter
- the DOS prompt window thing appears, type "ipconfig" (without quotes), hit enter.
- u get a list of stuff, look at the line that says "Default Gateway. . . . . xxx.xxx.x.x" (NOTE: that stuff in bold is a number, it may or may not be a longer number)
- write down the number and type it into the address bar of a browser window (u know, that white bar at the top that u use to type in websites, yeah). hit enter.
Apparently you do this to reach ur router configuration. here look for options that let u forward ports.

Hi, I just registered for this forum and thought you guys could help. I use BitComit and I have High Speed DSL 100Mps. But my downloads range from 4-35 and I opened up the ports (6881-6889) in my Linksys Wireless-G 2.5GHZ Router Model: WRT54G. I have no idea what else to do, I even tried turning off my firewall completely, still no higher speeds, if anyone could help I'd be gratefull.

Well Nohsrulz i have that same exact router , try these ports and trigger them too, 50550-50559 depending on ur internet however u may get different results than i did , but try that range and use anything 50550 to 50559 in bitcomet (have u tried Azureus yet?) and i know im soundin like a broken record here but has anyone patched there service pack 2? i done this and allowed more tcp connections and this helped my dl speeds big time.

If u want to dl anything from BT disable that crappy Xp firewall, to do this just goto control panel and select network connections and right click and goto properites then simply disable the firewall.

what do you do if your downloads always have the yellow smiley face on Azureus? I ve got Zone alarms and i have tried messing around with it but i havent had much success with increasing my download speed. It has never gone higher than 25 kB/s is this normal?

rebelious, u got a yellow thing? that means u not accepting incoming connections or somehting like that, why? 'cuz a firewall (or something) is blocking stuff.
if u do this u'll see that the ports are being blocked:
http://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 -click on "Proceed"
-on the blue box there that says "ShieldsUp!! Services"
type a port range like: 6881-6889. then click on "User Specified Custom Port Probe".
-scroll down to the Port Table there, if the STATUS column say "CLOSED" or "OPEN" then you are good to go. if it it says "STEALTH", you need to configure your firewall.
again, if it says 'stealth' than the firewall is blocking stuff.
what is zone alarm? is it a firewall? if so, go to its configuration and open (or forward) ports (6881-6999).
do u have another firewall? go to your other firewall's gonfiguration and forward ports from there. to reach ur other firewall configuration do this:
If u forwarded ports, go through first test again. If u get "closed" or "open" that means those ports are open for hackers to hack into ur computer and mess u up completely, BUT it also means a green light in azureus which means faster downloads. :)

Firstly special thanks to Redscorpi for your information on port forwarding and such, and to afterdawn.
While we are on the topic of ports, I beg the question:
How do you find the best port range for each specific torrent, or at least each tracker?
It remains that port forwarding is the only way to realise your bandwidth potential, but to find the best connection and download speeds a proper port range is needed.
Can anyone suggest a list or anything at all useful to this post?
Currently for anime and animesuki torrents, I find optimum downloads on 9667-9670
Also the depthstrike tracker uses 13155-13158.
To even get a fair idea of ports for each client (ABC, BT, Azureus) use can check out

hey thanks.
about the ports: the only two port ranges i have heard of are the famous 6881-6999 and this (which is a quote from one of my previous posts on this same thread):
"Ok, another trick I found that's supposed to increase your bittorrent download speed is to use a different port range. They recommend any range between 49152 and 65535 (NOTE: this is not the range itself. Im talking about any range BETWEEN those two numbers).
Why does this work? I don't know here is what they said: "it is a common practice for ISPs to throttle those ports [6881-6999] (that is, limit the bandwidth, hence the speed)" I guess that makes sense. It doesn't matter which range you pick, they say the more random the better."
but now that u mention a tracker using a specific port range, im confuse as to whether the above statement applies only to the torrents of that tracker site or to all torrents. hmmm??
im gonna have to check back with the site to see if it applies to all torrents or not. i would forward a range between these two numbers if i could, but my NAT configuration doesnt let me. so u know, that sucks.
i personally have not heard of using the ports u mention (9667-9670,13155-13158). but hey thats just me, ill check out the link u provided sometime. Peace.

Thanks for the quote, I'll test those mentioned port ranges.
For testing purposes, I've disabled my firewall (ICF)
to check every port range, I'm not certain as to whether that's certain cyber-suicide, however, it is better than manually forwarding 40,0000+ ports, being without a router that is...
Maybe you could try doing the same thing rebelious, if you're willing to take a slight security risk.

Just switched to BitLord client. Great BT client. I recommend it to anybody. Except maybe if you are under age, since it's got some adult stuff on it that the other clients don't have, but, hey it's all good. It's got a search engine built into it, which u can use to look for torrents without visiting websites. And, unlike Azureus, you don't need any Java plugins or anything, so thats cool.

OK!!! i had the same problem.. my d\load rate was about 40kB/s.. and that's ok except i usually use bittorrent for 600mb or greater... so i got "bittorrent download accelerator pro 2.5" I now have an average d\load rate of 140kB/s :) HERE IT IS http://downloads.zdnet.co.uk/0,39025604,39100662s,00.htm [Let me know what you think]
OH YEAH.. you have to open it for it to work, it is not merely a background dealio.. I set mine to find more sources every 3 minutes ;p
