im sorry if this has been answered already, but what settings should you change/ have on Alcohol 120% for burning ps2 games? i have burned a cd game no problem, but when i tried ripping GTA San Andreas, the disc types go away... i can no longer select Playstation 2 or anything like that. So, how do i do it with Alcohol 120%? I tried skipping read errors and drm, but i don't think it is working. thanks in advance for your help.

We say to use A120% for just PS2 CD-ROM games and PS1 games, when it comes to PS2 DVD-ROM games, use DVD Decrypter.

88. Q. How do I burn PS2 DVD games with Alcohol 120%?
A. Ripping the game to your Hard Drive:
1. Insert your disc.
2. Open Alcohol 120%.
3. Click Image Making Wizard.
4. Check Ignore read errors, select your recorder, leave the never seperate box alone.
5. Click Next. Select a destination for the game. Click Start.
Once the process is complete, you'll get an mds and an mdf file. Click finish, if necessary.
Burning the game to DVD:
1. Insert your blank disc.
2. Right click the mdf file.
3. Select Image Burning Wizard.
4. Select your recorder, set the write speed to 4x.
5. Click next.

You need some type of mod to play PS2 backups. This is the 3,423 time this question has been asked in this thread alone. In the future read the stickies at the top of the forums.
1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter. Burn at 4x on a quality 8x DVD-R.
Guide: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/298323
2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/240341 If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, or Maxell High Grade (DVD+R's). The PS2 laser is picky, these are the only three types of media you should trust for maximum reliability and compatiblity with your PS2. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc.
CMC Magnetics is garbage. Need proof (Thanks to Alkohol):
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/262544 If you really want to do the PS2 backup thing right, pick up some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's. I only burn to TYG02, the 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's. So far I've never had a lag, skip, freeze, or boot failure since I switched to Taiyo Yuden's. With results like that, why would I use anything else? The brand of media you use means very little.
The key determinant of media quality is the Media ID. For info on the Media ID, check the bottom of this thread.

3. Q. Do I need some type of mod to play PS2 backups or imports?
A. Yes you need a modchip: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 Swap Magic: http://swapmagic3.com/ Memory Card Exploit (Doesn't work with v.11 PS2 and later): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289 HD Loader: http://www.hdloader.com.au/hardinstall#prepare or

This was probably asked a million and one times, but in order to play your backed up games you need to install a mode-chip on your ps2 gamer in order to play them. I have decrypter and understand all that just confused on the mode-chip stuff. thank you all

i tried DVD Decrypter, but it was froze on like 23 or 24%. Just kept getting read errors.
oh and i tried doing it with Alcohol 120% with the settings previously mentioned, but it stopped gaining progress at around 23 or 24%. It just kept getting a TON of read errors. This is GTA san andreas i am trying to rip here, which i have heard is challenging... anyone know if the read errors are there as protection? thanks.

No it's scratched. Alcohol 120% will finish, give it awhile. I've had games take 8 hours+ to rip at times. Give it some time. If it's really a pain, set it to rip before you go to bed.

No, but I bet if someone counted up the number of times that's been asked in the last year, it'd be over 1,000. If I never had to answer a question again, it'd be that.

hey ya'll, i have a question that needs to be addressed. i recently tried burning a game (fifa street 2) with 3 different programs; nero, alcohol 120%, and dvd decrypter and i have had no luck.
i mean all three programs copy the image fine and also burn them fine also, but when i put the game into my ps2 (swap magic 3 with flip top) the screen just stays black. also when i look at the dvd disc i just burnt i only see a very little bit of written data, not the whole thing. anyone know what i'm doing wrong please help. thank u.
p.s. this is the message i get after i name the file to create an image with alcohol 120%...." FAT32/FAT16 file system can NOT store files larger than 4GB! Do you want to continue dumping? "
this is for burning fifa street 2.

The problem with FAT32 partitions is they can't handle files over 2GB's. You need to convert your HD to NTFS. Make sure you backup your everything first. You make a backup of an original game by using DVD Decrypter. Use this guide.
1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter. Burn at 4x on a quality 8x DVD-R.
Guide: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/298323
2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?

but how come i burned my other games without any problems , i'm just having this problem with fifa street 2. i burned BLACK and it worked on the first try and it booted up just fine.
i also get this message with alcohol 120%..." Writing file error in file c:\windows\desktop\fifa_street_2.mdf|Message:Access is denied."
and it stops to read at 91.4%
Is it just the game maybe its got too much protection, and can't be burnt? I'm using LG Dual Layer 16x DVD burner and Maxell 8x DVD-R.

No. This game isn't mod protected. It's more than likely because you're using a FAT32 partition. The other possibility is cheap/incompatible media with your burner. Convert your partition and to NTFS and get some better media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Or stay stuck where you are now, the choice is yours.
86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buyerguides/buymedia.htm
82. Q. When I'm burning with DVD Decrypter or Nero I get an I/O error or some other strange error, I'm not sure my burner is in DMA mode, and I'm confused about different media, what do I do?
A. http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

hi to everyone here
im completely new to burning or backing up ps2 discs. there seems to be so much information on this thread that im just confused. im not sure what applies to me.
i have a basic ps2 console, which doesnt have any modchip or anything. if i have a ps2 game, exactly what steps would i need to follow to burn a ps2 game. are there any softwares i can download and complete the process without having any chip installed? and im new to all these different terms like swap magic.
im sure this may have been answered somewhere in this thread, but there's like 70 pages on this thread, so i dont really want to search every post on every page.
so if i simply have a basic ps2, what software do i need if any to complete the process of burning a ps2 game. can someone please help this over-worked confused girl? if so, thanks so much
xxxxxx
