Hi, no need to bump in here as people will answer if they have an answer.
Or you could have made your own topic in the forum, more people may see it that way.

I use the Wiikey 2 and have updated mine to 3.4, I don't use homebrew so there are no problems so far and I don't use trucha signed backups.

The only issue appears to be that some say with the 3.4 agreement it will allow nintendo to update your wii without your consent.

Time will tell I guess for me.

You can scroll up above to a post mentioned about it, you can search the forum here on topics about and make your own decision.

That is about the best I can tell you.

So how do you tell if a disc is Trucha Signed?

I don't believe there is any way to check. They just won't work with the 3.3 update and beyond.

I think a lot of Custom games are trucha signed , but I think the .NFO file would say or not.

Well we can hope we hear of new updates before they are out.
I don't really know what they can do too detect a modchip.

In the Wiikey 2 config disc there is a config option to block all updates regardless of region, but I have not done that yet either.

Otherwise will wait it out and see. Pray and hope, lol.

Okay I'm having major problems with the wii. I have a wiikey, ISO37, 3.1u. Now nothing works not even bought games. I can insert a game and sometimes it will show up in the disk channel and it will start and as it loads then it freezes and I have to do a hard reset.I have tried the 1.9b recovery disk by turning on the wii inserting he disk and it showes up as a game cube disk in the disc channel and then do a reset and witing 5 minutes and I have done it by clicking on the disc in the disc channel and letting it load to a freeze screen and then powering down for 5 minutes....I'm not sure which is the right methode. After both methodes config 1.3 would not read but 1.4 would, but still no game discs would read.

I'm at a loss as how to proceed, my son is driving me crazy about getting it working again since he is out of school for christmas break...please help.
Thanks, Chuck

My guess is it sounds like a hardware problem and not a mod problem.
Either the laser or the mechanism that moves the laser is misaligned or failing, Or , the mechanism to insert the disc and spin it in place is not working correctly.

IF it had progressively gotten worse at reading discs this would be my guess. (ie. used to read all disks, started to not read several burned disks, started to not read or fail with retail game disks, stopped reading all disks)

I may be wrong but I believe this is directed towards "software" as it is stated in the disclaimer meaning programs and files. Specifically downladable content and saved files. I think they're warning that they can delete, search for, etc for any unauthorized files that may be on systems, controllers or storage devices. They're worried about dlc's, hacked saved game files, unauthorized virtual console files and whatever else like cracks, hacks, cheats, tools, utils, config files and keys (if they start using them).
If you think about these and reread the disclaimer its pretty obvious as they don't mention hardware, modifications but stress prevent the use of distribution through improper channels, which means protect theirs but more importantly their customers (in Guitar Hero and Rockbands case "music")

Anyone agree?

Hi,

I bought a used Wii about a month ago. It is a LU3025xxxxxx model and I used a wii checker online and it says I have a DMS chipset. I guess this means the wiikey will work on my system. I have never soldered before, so I want to use the clip. modchipcentral has a wiikey soldered to the clip for like $45 with a triwing included. I just want to make sure this is what I need. I don't plan on downloading games at all. I want to buy a LG-8164b drive and just burn US games.

I was wondering if there was a link to a clear, zoomed in video of someone installing the wiikey w/clip? I am sure it is very easy, but I'd like to watch the video if one is available. Now, after the chip is installed what do I have to do?

I am looking on wiikey.cn and there is a firmware update. I guess the most updated version is 1.9s? I would use the US version. I read about a 1.9g and a 1.9b as well. Do I have to worry about these? I was reading about chopping and everything to make the update the size of a GC disk, but I downloaded a padded version. I used Winrar and it is 1.35GB which is appropriate size from what I have read. Now I just use Imgburn or Nero and burn it onto a DVD-R? I read that the Verbatim DVD-R are the most reliable. I pop this into the wii after the chip is installed, but I have to let it run twice until I hear Homer. Please let me know if this is correct. This is what I read. I do not have a GC controller to control the update, but I will go buy one.

Now, after this update, do I have to burn any other updates or config disks for the wiikey to work? I was just reading through this topic on here and this is what I was able to pull from it all. Please let me know if I am missing something.

I downloaded a wii burning guide off of btjunkie and it walks through the burning of the actual wii games, so I dont think I need help for that. Please get back to me as soon as possible. It will be much appreciated.

Hi,

I'm sorry. I had a few other questions as well. I see on wiikey.cn that there is a config disc image 1.9s. Do I have to burn this on to a disc as well and put it inside the wii for the wiikey to work? If so, do I have to put the config disc in first before the firmware? Do I have to find a padded config disc download to make it the appropriate size for the wii to read it as a gamecube disc? If someone knows of a padded version (if there is one) please let me know.

ALSO, should I just get the wiikey 2? Its like an extra $15. Is the wiikey 2 that much better than the wiikey?

Last question, if Nintendo ends up coming out with a way to fry the chips or something like that in the future, as long as the wiikey is clipped, I can easily take it off and my wii will be like an original correct? This is another reason why I think the clip is safer than actually soldering. If someone could please reply to my questions I would really appreciate it.

I just bought a WiiKey 2 pre-soldered onto a wiiclip. It takes a while to get the Wii disassembled to where you can install it (I recommend looking for a guide with pics, not a video). I put my WiiKey on and plugged in the power to the Wii right then to test it and it didn't work properly (red light turned on instead of flashing red & blue). I unplugged the wii and pulled the clip off then put it back on with the same results. The "wiiclip" doesn't actually clip onto the wii at all, it just sits on top of an IC chip and since you have to flip the drive upside down to reinstall, it is quite a pain to get it to stay. After removing and replacing the clip about 20 times, I burned a config disc and put it in the Wii. It still didn't work, but when I turned it off, removed and replaced the clip one more time, suddenly flashing lights!!! When I tried to put the disc drive back on the Wii the clip fell off again so I taped it on, and tested it and it still worked. I put it back together and tested it out and it still works.

So far I've played 2 backup games that I downloaded and they work perfectly but I can't figure out how to access the wiikey menu to allow me to back up discs on my own. I don't have Twilight Princess so I haven't installed the homebrew channel yet either.

I've never owned any other mod chips for the wii but hopefully this will help you decide.

Actually the clip is supposed to "click" into place and stay there fairly well. If you take it on and off 20x I'm sure it will get loose. You have to make sure you have the clip installed in the right direction, i.e., sticking out over the opening on the bottom of the DVD drive. Did you install the stickers and cover that came with the clip? They aren't there just for show, they help to prevent shorts. ---Chikn.

This is a common issue and is almost always a media/burn speed/burner problem. Burn slow from your ISO's like 4x or 6x if your media supports that. Don't use poor media like Dynex, some Memorex and even some Verbatim's. Try a different burner as the one you're using could be marginal in LASER strength or spindle speed.

I like to use Philips or Sony RW's to test my ISO's before burning to my every day media. I know this media works and it eliminates that issue. I personally use "Taiyo Yuden Water Shield White Inkjet Hub Printable 16X DVD-R" they aren't premium media but I like printable glossy media that can be washed with out labels running. This media works very well but because it has Water Shield they are costly.

I saw this asked but no answer.
I just installed a solderless WiiKey2 D2E into a US Console. All the games I burned work except NTSC Wii Music and a PAL ver Mario Party 8. MY originals Work.
I updated the Wii to the latest Firmware but I cannot install any new firmware to the Wiikey2. I tried 1.9b, 1.9g beta, 1.9s padded and not
I also tried Config disk 1.3 & 1.4 None work. Config 1.2 works.

Those links on the first page are for the Wiikey.

You said you installed Wiikey2
The Wiikey 2 discs are here
http://www.wiikey.cn/resources/

My NTSC Mario Party 8 works fine, so can't help you there.
Did you run Wii Brickblocker and then burn it.

thanks, for the reply Mr-Movies, but I don't think that is my issue as these backups have all worked over a year and I use only good DVD-r disks and always burn at 4x. Plus it doesn't explain why originals wont play.

I haven't given up and if anyone has any suggestions they would be welcome

well i messed with the wii for several house yesterday and I got it updated to 3.4u and 1.9s and config 1.4. okay when i put in "wii play" original, it shows up in the wii channel and will start to load if clicked on and then will say can't reed disk. If i load it through Homebrew gecko 1.7 it works flawlessly. The same with "links crosbow training", & "guitar hero 3". if i try to load wii sports it locks the system up. Now "resident evil 4"will load on the disk channel but when i click on it the screen loads and is all jumpy and then when i go to load a saved game it says can't read disk.

Now I have tried some back upcopies that used to work and what i have found is that none of them work. some are seen in the disk channel ie. "mario kart" but when i click on it it says can't read disk. or in the case of "guitar hero world tour" it says insert the guitar hero wt disk. some say no DVD when loaded through geko 1.7. It all is very strange.

What do you all think? bad chip? bad DVD drive? Screwed software?
thanks, for any insight!

Hi, first post on here. Just installed my key and everything seems to be fine, it will play backup discs, but I'm very confused by the Update/Config Combined Disc v1.2. Its a bz2 tarball disc. Do I just burn that in nero using "data disc" or do I need to extract it? Also, how do you use the homebrew mode? I thought an icon would appear in the main window on the wii but nothing looks different.

Thanks for all your help!

btw, the new wii's now come "gooped" on the ic on the dvd mech, not fun, but a couple hours with a solder iron will remove it!

7zip should extract that or winrar, then you will have an ISO image to burn.

Thanks, I just figured out that I needed winrar. I usually use winace and it didnt know what to do with it, that is why I was confused, lol.

Still figuring out the wad situation. Thought the chip had some special option to use them but Im starting to think not.

Today I got the wiikey v1 with clip. I Disassembled the wii and placed it over my DMS chipset and it fit snug. I close up the wii. I put in firmware 1.9s and then config disc image 1.9s. The firmware loads up. It seems to do the job. I put in config disc image I didn't really do anything here. I read that you should change the disc speed from 6x to 3x. Have you all done this?

Ok, so then I try SMG. It gives me "game cannot be read." I'm pissed because I expected it to work. I burnt the game at 4x speed with TDK DVD-Rs. I try at 2x with TDK DVD-Rs. Same thing happens. I burn a copy of Lego Indianan Jones at 2x with TDK DVD-Rs. It works! So I play it for a few minutes to make sure everything is good. I then burn another game Raving Rabbids TV Party at 2x with TDK DVD-Rs and it loads. It plays for like a minute or two and then all of the sudden I get a black screen saying disc cannot be read. I'm like damn. So then I try Lego Indiana Jones again and it DOESN'T work. I don't get it. I then try re-burning Lego Indiana Jones with Philips DVD-Rs at 1x and this still doesn't play.

Originals games WILL work, but no backups. Do you think there is something wrong with the chip? Like I said it must have been working in the beginning because Lego Indiana Jones did work briefly. Do you think it is the DVD-Rs? PLEASE let me know what you think I should do. Should I try and reinstall the chip ( I have it on with the wii-clip)? Should I then try and re-install the firmware and config disc image? OR Do I just contact modchipcentral and get a replacement? Again, I am at a loss. I am using Rawdump2.0 and everything seems to be working fine. I am just using NTSC originals so I don't even use WiiBrickBlocker or RegionFri.

I'm using an LG 8163b.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE get back to me.
