I started looking on page 60 and i couldnt find this. When i burn a game on 4x it takes a million years to get to the first screen. So i cant even play the games. I copied soul caliber III(original) and downloaded the Final Fantasy XII demo. Same thing happens with both of them. Then i remembered that i burned a game at 8x which is half the speed of the TDK DVD+R media that im using. That game worked but it skipped and took a whill to load. Those are the reasons why i tried them at 4x which is what everybody said to do. What i did then was burned the games at 12x it was a huge improvement. Then i burned it at 16x and now they load quickly and skip only every once in while.

I have a USA SCPH 39001 Version 7 ps2, have TDK 16x DVD+R and im using swap magic 3.6 to play the games.

So my question is, will this ruin my laser on my ps2?

Burning the PS2
The process of burning ps2 games is easy. It is really only a 3 step process.(read the game, patch the game, and burn the game.)

1) insert game into cd drive.

2) Open up CDRWIN and click on the extract disk/tracks/sectors button.

3) Your settings should be as follows:

For ?extract mode? select disk image/ cue sheet
For ?read options? select ?raw?
For ?error recovery? select ?abort?
For ?jitter correction? select ?auto?
For ?subcode analysis? select ?auto?
Data Speed and Audio Speed should be the same
For ?read retry count? type 0
For ?subcode threshold? type 300
Make sure you selected the drive that your PS2 game is in
Make sure you typed in the file name (just type the name of the game) and Check the directory that you're putting your file in.

Then just press ?start?

If you get an error in the middle of reading the disk that says something like ?can't read sections xxxx-xxxxx of disk?, it is becase the disk is scratched and CDRWIN can't read it. Try to clean the disk, if that doesn't work you just have to use a different game (a different copy of the same game)

4) Once CDRWIN is done, click ok and then exit CDRWIN. Open up the PS2 patcher, select the game file you just created and patch it (make sure you select the ?RAW? option.

5) Close the PS2 patcher, next open up Fireburner. Click on the visual cue burner button. When you created your .bin file (the game file) in CDRWIN, a .cue file should have automaticly been created. In that case, drag and drop the .cue file into the Fireburner window. If the .cue file was not created, just drag and drop the .bin file into the Fireburner window. After you have done that, right click (click with the right side button on your mouse) on your file in the Fireburner window, and select ?Burn/Test burn?.

6) In the options window that appears, select your cdwriter, select your write speed(doesn't really matter), and make sure you select ?Track at once (TOA) for the recording method. As for the options on the right side of the options window, make sure only the following are checked: ?eject cd? and ?close session?.

When you have selected the options, click ok and your PS2 game will burn. That's all you have to do to burn a game.

Burning a Playstion (PSone) game
1) If you want, you can spend 5 minutes using the same method as above to burn your playstation game, but its not necessary. For a playstation game (not PS2) all you need to do is use a program that lets you make an ?exact copy? or a ?backup disk (CDRWIN)? You don't need any selected options, you just need to start the game on the PS2 the same way you would a PS2 game.

Starting the game on your PS2
1) Now for the fun part (and challenging part the first couple of times) This may sound a little complicated at first, but after you do it 3 or 4 times, it's super easy. First things first, you must remove the front of your game drive on your PS2(not a big deal, it can snap on and off).

2) Now insert your gameshark 2 cd(make sure the gameshark memory card is in one of the 2 slots, doesn't matter which one.)

3) In the gameshark options, choose ?start game?, then ?without?. Your screen should read ?Please insert game disk then press X to continue.?

4) Now this part can be trickey for beginners, so I will provide pictures

-the main purpose of this starting method is to open up the PS2 and swap the gameshark disk with your burned game without the PS2 knowing you did it. DO NOT press the eject button on the PS2!!!

-with the PS2 cd tray cover removed, you will be able to look in and see a while tab inside the PS2. With a credit card (or something like it) gently slide the white tab all the way over to the right, if you did it correctly, this should allow you to manually pull open the PS2 cd tray.

5) Next, take the gameshark disk out of the PS2 and put in your burned game.

6) Gently push the PS2 cd tray fully back into the PS2 (Don't press the eject button).

7) Now you need to slide that white tab all the way back to the left (its origional position). To do this you get a strong papper clip(needs to be a strong one) stick it into the PS2 on the right side of the white tab and push the tab back to the left.

8) If you pushed the tab all the way back to the left and did every thing else right, you are ready to play your game. Just press X on your PS2 controler and watch as your burned game loads.

@lilAzN What's the Media ID of those DVD+R's?

91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...
Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
Huge List of Media ID's (Thanks to DogBomb): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/155431

@ vagi You obviously copied and pasted that from somewhere, give the original author credit. CDRWIN will work for PSX games or PS2 CD-ROM games, but I don't believe it works for DVD games. This is the PS2 DVD section. To burn PS2 DVD-ROM games, use DVD Decrypter, ImgBurn, Nero, or Alcohol 120%. Check the FAQ link in my sig for more info.

Sorry if this has already been asked...but it is becomeing a pain to search this double-edged sword of knowlege called the internet.

I have been reading around and I've been seeing things on loading the back-ups using the gameshark and I was wondering if I could do that without using things such as Swap Magic or a mod-chip.

I have also come up with this patchers or something that says that it inserts a dummy file or something...I really don't know what to do, so confused. Hopefully you guys can help clear this up for me.

I am burning using that DVD Decrypter thing and writing that .MDS file and such. I do not have any mod chip, or Swap Disk, and I have the slim PS2, if that helps any...

Thanks so much in advance guys! :P

You need the really old version of gameahrk to boot up a backup, which they dont sell anymore. You go the burning down right Using DVD Decrypter. You are goinf to have to buy swap magic or a Mod Chip.

heres from tokijin.

3. Q. Do I need some type of mod to play PS2 backups or imports?
A. Yes you need a modchip: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 Swap Magic: http://swapmagic3.com/ Memory Card Exploit (Doesn't work with v.11 PS2 and later): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289 HD Loader: http://www.hdloader.com.au/hardinstall#prepare or
HD Advance: http://www.hdadvance.com/hd_advance_how-to-use.htm

5. Q. What modchip should I get?
A. Matrix Infinity (Green Dot), DMS 4 Pro SE, or the Crystal Chip 1.1.
My ModChip FAQ: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/304534

7. Q. What do I need to use Swap Magic?
A. With fat PS2 v.1-11: Flip top: http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/fliptop/page1.cfm
Slide Card: http://www.saveware.com/SlideCardUsageAndInstall.htm
With Slim PS2 v.12-14
Flip top: http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/fliptop-v12/pag...
Magickeys (also referred to as slide tool, slim tool or, magic switch): http://magickeys.net/
Ghost Switch: http://www.saveware.com/GhostSwitchInstall.htm
Tape and Tissue mod: From Pretense: If the fliptop doesn't work, just give up on it and do a tape and tissue mod. Open up your case again and tape the back sensor (toward the upper left and beneath the hinge part of the lid) with duct tape or even regular Scotch tape (I use several layers to be on the safe side), put the case back together, and stuff a small ball of tissue into the hole for the front sensor (lower right just above the power button).

Just about the same, just a change on Censor 'A' and Censor 'B'

keep the top closed, while you tape down the disk stopper, using a few layers of duct tape

Censor A - http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/4342/dsc010698we.jpg
use tiny strips of duct tape to patch over the tiny censor. I used a screwdriver to help put on the tape.

Sorry to sound thick, but I need something clarified. I've been reading a lot of posts about a "fliptop" method of loading DVD-R discs. This is always mentioned in the same breath as, and opposed to, the "slide method," which involves a tray. Well, I have a Slimline PS2, and it seems to me that it already has a fliptop. I press the eject button, and <<FLIP>> the top goes up. There is no tray, and if I open the lid while I'm in the middle of playing a (legitimate) game, it doesn't stop my playing--just goes on as usual. So does that mean that I don't have to buy a modified lid for my PS2 in order to run my burned games? Or do they mean something different when they say "fliptop"?

No, you will have to buy an aftermarket Fliptop. and you will need swap magic to play back-uped games.
