IMHO, i think the 16x media made now is almost as good as the 8x. these manufactures have been doing there homework, and have gotten the 16x media on the top of the game now.seeing that the 8x media is no longer going to be made. its only going to be 16x. so they have to mae it better...i think i burned a whole 50ct cake box of 16x+r verb @12x everyone of them...not one coaster either...
just my Opinion

Well that's convenient, I was just about to ask you all if you felt that burning my Verbatim 16x's at 16x was the way to go or not. I'm hoping to hear back from someone that has burned a fair bit at both speeds and has compared the results. Oh, and I'll be using a BenQ 1655 and a LiteOn 1693S for my burning, so anyone with either drive and that sort of experience, I'd be grateful to know what you think.
Thanks!

Well, I had the benq 1655 and I used to burned most of my stuff
at 16x because i didint know any better. However the result is not too bad. Usually scan out to be around 90~95. Heck I even burned some of the TYG03's at 16x. The reason I dont do it as much now days is because the guys here didnt recommend burning at 16x for the quality reasons. Sometimes I just dont care as much, as long as it play okay and didnt skip thats a good burn for me.

Well, that's just it, even if the margin is small, if 12x is producing better quality burns than 16x, then that's what I want to be doing. I've had it in my head that 12x is currently better at producing high quality scans than 16x, but if they're even now, maybe after a firmware update, etc., then I figure I better find out. :)

From my limited experience I've had better luck burning the 16X media at 12X. I've tried TYG03, Verb MCC 004, Verb MCC 03RG20 at 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, and 18X but the best by a hair was 12X on all the above media. In my experience 18X wasn't good at all. Like I said in my experience. :)
HTH........
......gm
delateur,
It depends on your system and what results you personally get. Like I said 12X works for me. It's also not worth the extra minute or so to loose quality imo. :)

@greensman: Ok, that's good enough for me. I've only burned a couple of the 16x, because I'm currently using up the last of my 8x, but I want to be ready once those are gone. As you say, for even a marginal increase in quality, I'll burn at 12x over 16x, even if it costs me a minute or so on the total burn time. It's still an improvement over 8x, so I'm happy. :)

I'm a die-hard 8X guy myself. 99% of what I burn is at 8X on 8X rated TY media. I will admit, however, that I recently paired a Pioneer 112 with my Plex 760, and the Pioneer burns on MCC004 media at 18X gave me a 95 quality score!!! I won't be burning at 18X, that's for sure, but I will admit that manufacturer's firmware has finally caught up to 16X media. It was never the media that was questionable (I speak of Verbs and TY here, mainly TY), it was firmware support. I am almost comfortable enough now to choose 16X media and burn it at 12X over 8X media. We'll see what the next few months hold. As long as my 8X TY's are readily available, though, that's what I will stick to. YUDEN000T02 (Taiyo Yuden 8X +R) still holds the crown as the best media on the market IMO...

That's becos they are +R disks, yes. Those are 8x DVD+R Taiyo Yuden; all +R TYs code out as T0x. The -r media is the stuff that codes as TYG0x.

@garmoon
like greensman said the 18x litey i couldnt get to burn TY's unless i used imageburn and imageburn only... i think its a firmware problem with the drive something internal.... sent it back for another new one....
i love these 8x+r white hubprintables...think i will order some silverhub printables.... i know they are TY's but are the -r's as good as the +r's i know alot of people here use the -r. i dont have any epereince with them...other than knowing they are cheaper...lol

The 112 is working out quite nicely. I think I am gonna love it as much as my retired 109.
@ cincy
The -R TY are excellent as well... The only difference that I've noticed is a slightly longer load time than +R booktyped to -ROM on my standalones. As far as the silver inkjet printables, I might give 'em a whirl if they were hub printable. Guess I'll stick to my tried and true TY inkjet hub printables... I've probably burned at least 1500 of the TY -R white inkjet hub printables and around 1000 of the +R white inkjet hub printables...

@teflonmyk,
which burner did you burned them with?? i assume mostly with
the pioneer 109?? well, most people like the older model of pioneer but i ddint start burning that far back. The oldest pioneer I have is 110 which is pretty good. Hows the burned quality of pioneer 112 compare to the plextor px760 you also have??

tcwas,
I have ordered these before and got the 8X TYG02's but beware you could get the 16X TYG03's which are good too. Just saying this because some people have gotten upset because of this. rofl. Sorry inside joke. :)
btw good discs and the price seems good as well. $28.99/100 pack delivered is good in my book. ;-)

@tcwas,
if you can wait on it for a little bit you might get a better deal man. you cant pick wrong time to buy some ty's man. I bougth 200 pack of 8x premium line with 2oo free paper sleeve shipped at 57.99.
so my suggestion is if you can wait, wait for them to be onsale man.
By the way, the value line is pretty good. I had some concern before but after the gurus in here supported then I have bought almost 500 of them already.
