I think by "terget not found" he is referring to the error he's getting when trying to flash his drive with the firmware you linked him to ;-)
Heh :)

Hello guys,
This is weird me out a little. The legendary awesome TYG02 is actually out of stock in SMS right now. I know it might been out for awhile now. The reason it kinda weird me out is because i never thought they would run out of it. I didnt know the phasing out would be this quick. I remenber it took them forever to completely get rid of the 4x. The concern i have is that are we going to be left with the TYG03s for the future. The only problem i have for it is the price @ $.43/disc. thats little expensive.
the other question i have is the 8X +R worth stocking up now??
I new they were good for booktype and stuff but were they really that much better then the TYG02??
thanks guys

Solution, you know me (I'm a verbatim DVD+R fanboy). No playback problems whatsoever. Last 100 pk of 16x verbatim dvd+r's cost me 22 cents per disc after MIR and free shipping.

LOL@Mort81,
You so funny Morty. lol. Yeh the DVD+R 16X Verbs are doing well for me too. NOT as good as your last scan tho, man that was a good'un. :)
Yujenh the TYG02's are becoming a little scarce but you should be able to get them for a while to come. Have you tried all the online retailers for them? Rima, Meritline, SMS, even Allmediaoutlet.com?
The TYG03's aren't to bad now but the first run or so were suspect for sure. I think with the improvements in f/w the quality of burn has increased too.
As Mort81 said the Verbs are pretty good stuff too. Give them a try and see what you think. 16X DVD+R (MID: MCC 004) ;-)

I haven't posted in this thread for awhile so I thought now might be a good time.
I started watching this thread months back and decided to try the TY's for a change because of the great feedback on TY's. I always had used Verbs and thought why not give it a shot. It turned out it was a great move. I started useing 8X -R's in the 50 pack tubs buying from SMS. However, my last purchase was the 100 pack tubs and I have been having some burning issues. Has anyone ran into this?
Out of 10 burns I had 2 to 3 coasters. They would burn to about 60% and either give me an error or the program froze. I actually started cleaning my disc's before putting in my drive to see if it would help.
Any input I would appreciate.

fatstrat,
Which discs did you get? Most of the 100 packs are the 16X variety and some of the f/w's for DVD-RW drives don't work so good with the 16X TY's. I actually get a little less quality burn on the DVD-R 16X TY than the 8X version and definitely less than the DVD+R 8X TY but they (DVD-R 16X TY) still produce a pretty good disc. I can provide a scan if you like, just ask. :)
As Mort81 indicated the Verbs are good stuff too. But that doesn't solve your issue right now. :)
Make sure you got the real thing according to the first page in this thread. :) Then if you can, visiably inspect your discs to make sure you possibly didn't get a "bad" batch. It happens, hard to believe but it does. If you think that they are "bad" you can always send them back to the retailer you purchased from. btw, where did you get them?
HTH in some way....;-)

fatssrat: I use a lot of Tys from sms and sometimes get some bad ones. In one batch of 200 I had over 50 that were bad. But if you call them, they will give you a number to include in the return package and give you full refund. What I do is keep a special spindle for bad ones and when I get 50 I send them back on the latest invoice number, as they will not refund if the time has been too long. Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies fellas....
They are 8X and I always burn at 4X. I do have the latest f/w, but I would like to re-badge so I can start booktype useing +R's. I am not at home right now, I know I have a NEC, but not sure what model# I have. At one point I found a sight that had a hacked f/w for my model for booktyping, but it was a little complicating.
@Greensmen
I did check to make sure they were real TY's!! I started to wonder at one point and getting pissed at the same time!! The last couple burns were fine, so maybe I had a couple of bad ones.

Here's the liggy and dees modified f/w page for nec's http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/en/
Maybe it's just me but I don't EVER have any coasters. Then again I quit using TY's for that reason. They were too inconsistent for me. The ones that played, played great but I never knew if the next one was gonna be a good burn or not. Believe me, I'm not knocking TY's, I'm just giving my experiences.
Some of my verbs may not scan out as good as the TY's that played back error free but the verbs always play back perfectly and isn't that the ultimate goal.
aabbccdd,
You seen the latest victoria secret commercial? Miss Lima is back in the line up. OOOOWEE! Eye candy fo sure.

aabbccdd,
You need to stay away from the VS commercials. hehehe. It looks like you already developed a stutter from the catalogs and other VS paraphernalia. LOL. I see it every time you post a comment. aa-bb-cc-dd.....rofl..........
@pieman,
You might need to get a flash utility if you already didn't for that f/w. I can't believe you would need to toss that Pioneer in the bin. ;-) How long have you had it and how many burns has it done for you? Just curious. :) Also you might try un-installing that drive thru the device manager and restarting your puter to see if it will re-install. Something to think about with that bad boy. Was it giving you fits before? Just trying to get to the root of the problem. :)
@Yujenh,
I'm with garmoon on this one. I love those YUDEN T02's and the book typing ability.
www.meritline.com for TY DVD-R's 100 for $31.99 shipped
You'll have to do a search at meritline, for some reason the link isn't working.
link to rima.com 8X TY DVD-R's 100 for $26.99 + S&H
www.allmediaoutlet.com DVD-R TY's 8X 100 for $27.95 + S&H
Same thing with this site, for some reason AD isn't letting the links work from these sites. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I've never ordered from rima or meritline but allmedia has done me right in the past. See what you can find. :) I know that many members have ordered from rima and meritline so all 3 should be ok when it comes to quality media. ;-)

@greensman...the 112 is less than a week old and the 111 is three weeks old.I havent managed to get either drive to burn a ty fully.I use clonedvd2, and will try Nero but im not keen on Nero...7 is a bitch so i use 6.6016 which is the only one ive ever had sucess with.I guess i need to try some other discs with the pioneers, but i cant believe they wont burn a ty.Ill also try changing the ide channel so that theresnothing else on the cable, ive only got one ide channel and its strange co in device manager it shows my two burners as scsi drives...( have a gigabte ds4).Have tried the uninstall/reinstall, still the same.when i flashed the drives with the pioneer fw, both drives were found and flashed fine.Now when i try the other fw's ie buffalo, the drive cant be found.Im running out of ideas here guys, and that bin is getting closer!!!

@Yujenh,
No problems buddy. ;-)
@pieman,
Where do you live so I can rummage thru your garbage bin when you decide to thro those things out. LOL. Sorry my weak attempt at humor. :-)
What about the cables your using, I don't know if that would make a difference but I've never had any problems with the 80 wire rounded cables and any drive that I've tried. Going the simple route first. :)
If I remember right the Pioneer drives are Japanese so it doesn't make sense that they wouldn't write/burn to Japanese media, well at least the chipset should be Japanese (NEC).
I wouldn't think that Nero 7 would be a bother but you never know with software conflicts and all. I know that Nero 7 has had some problems with DVD Shrink and so has any update past Nero 6.6.0.18 for that matter. That's the version of Nero that I use btw (6.6.0.18) per every guru on AD that uses Nero 6. ;-)
pieman give this link a read thru and see what makes sense to you. Maybe this will answer some of your questions. I don't think you have a bad drive just maybe not fully supported yet. :)
