Yujenh,
What are you gonna do with the TY's? Movies and such or games? If they are games I would recommend DVD+R's book-typed to DVD-ROM for better compatibility. JM2C on that. I don't think you will get any different scores from the TYG02 to the TYG03, again JM2C on that. I have both discs and they play just fine on my stand alone players and they score very similarly as well.
As far as burning I wouldn't go above the recommended speed but I know people that do and the discs play just fine. I have over-burned a few Verb's but never a 8X TY. Not scared just don't see the need. I did the Verb just for giggles and it did ok. I have over-burned both 16X TY's and 16X Verb's at 18X but the result was less than desirable. AGAIN JM2C on this. I've heard of people getting ok results but not in MY experience.
What does a couple of minutes get you anyway? A typical 8X burn takes about 10 minutes and 12X takes about 8 minutes and 16X takes about 6-7 minutes if it will get there. Sometimes the speed never gets to 16X because the drive won't let it because of smart burn or pre-determined quality control. The BENQ's did this with me when I had Q-suite installed. Something else to think about. LOL.

cincyrob: I used CloneDVD2 and burned them at 8X. One thing I did was download the firmware, even though the message said my firmware was uptodate. They burned really fast about 12 to 15 minutes from read to burn.

Yujenh, i wouldn't over burn the TYGO2s at 12x keep it at 8x max. you can go 12x on the TYGO3s but i still recommend 8x max.
yeah Rob the TYGO3s have been perfect ,they are as good as the 8x IMO now. they weren't when they first hit the market however

Yujenh, i don't see it happening. i mean alot of people burn at 16x but with movie files it doesn't make good sense just causes to many playback problems.your only talking s couple mintues between 16x and 8x. now burning data at 16x is fine

Yeah I'd stick with 8X too. I wish I could find more 8X media. I'm still using them TYs and Verbs without an issue. I have plenty but the 16X media I have used I still burn @ 8X.

I don't really need any media now I have 450TY T02s left, and a goodly number of verbs and riteks. But thanks for the heads up. Sounds like a good price. I just got 100 16X richojpn +Rs for daughter for $20 at Office Depot.

Yeah, The blue and white 100 cake box 16X +Rs code out as Ricohjpn-R03-004 ($20, on sale once in a while, I just watch Sunday circs). They are the office depot home brand. I used the 8X as well, still actually using them. Haven't quite run out. The 8X are Ritek 03 +Rs, nary a problem with them. I use them for anything my daughter wants burned. Can't very well give "my precious" TY T02s away. LOL

NOW there is a man that has his priorities in the right place. LOL. The only way I give them away is when I'm checking something on my rig and making sure something is working ok and may have extra discs laying around. Like the other day when I burned some extras just to make sure my LH-18A1P wasn't acting like poor ol' cincyrob's defective drive. Sorry to bring that up cincyrob, hope the pain is gone by now. :-(
TY's and Verb's, the only ways to go.....unless your giving something away. ROFL.

OoooooooooooowEeeeeeeee!!
You buy CMCMags on purpose! LOL. :P
I had a buddy of mine that needed some discs and I gave him some Optodiscs, Prodiscs, and some CMCMags that I had left over from my bad purchasing days. LOL. Unfortunately I don't have many "test" discs left. I had a $20 coupon for CompUSA and used it for some (100 for $6 out of pocket $$$) TDK 003's (DVD+R) which unbelievably burn and play fine for now. I use those and the Ritek R03's (8X DVD+R) for give-aways.
I've heard a lot about how bad the TDK's are and looked up their quality and they are listed as 1st Class media. I thought this might be a little out-dated but the list is actually pretty much up to date. Soooo how do we really know? LOL.
Here's the list, give it a look see. :)

Before I became "enlightened", I purchased 2 100 cakeboxes of +R TDK for $15 each at BB. They coded out as 8X TY T02s. Sweeet deal I didn't realize I had, until coming here. In fact I've never been able to get a TY @ 15 cents since. Bought many a $ony MIJ X8 on sale tho.

Yeh I figured that the report was a little biased but it does seem up-to-date as far as new media. What makes it biased? I haven't read enough of the report to determine that and even if I did I probably couldn't make heads or tails of it anyway. LOL. Like I said they were cheap and serve a purpose for me. :)
I also have a pretty big stock-pile of the TY YUDEN T02's and the Verb MCC 003's along with some TYG03's and TYG02's and Verb MCC 004's. :):) Saving them for the GOOD stuff so to say. :)

hi guys...got a strange prob with my ty 03's....I have several burners that i burn with, and recently my lg4167b bit the dust. So, not having had a pioneer burner since the 109, i got a 111.Bothe pre and post firmware flash it will not write a ty...states faulty media.Strange i thought as every other burner burns fine.So ive just tried a 112.Same result.Spots the disc out at between 7 and 15% stating bad media. Now these discs im using have been fine on my benq 1655,samsung shw 163, and nec ad 7179a.Scans on Nero and dvdinfopro are fine.Is it me??Does pioneer really hate me??Any ideas most welcomw!!

well myself i find this interesting.. i just had 2 liteon LH-181AP.. that did the same thing. wouldnt burn TY's. and now that im thinking of getting the pioneer 112D i hear this.. i honestly think these newer drives are not tested with TY's before being shipped. they say these are tested but i dont beleive it. you have to do to much to get the drive to learn this media. ive waisted about 25 TY's trying to get these drives to learn the media that a tech said the drives dont do that?????? the only thing i think to tell you is find a program that will burn the TY's i found Nero express would do this for me.. but just how many times do you have to do this for the drive to learn it....
now im stumped as to get this drive..lol i know some people here that have the 112 and dont have problems with it. thats why i choose to get this drive cause of it was recomended highly... so i dont know...

pieman my friend cincyrob had the same problem with 2 LITE-ON LH-18A1P's on the same media and eventually on different media as well.
What you say kinda scares me since I just ordered a new Pioneer DVR-112 myself. :) I have 6 other drives that I know the YUDEN T02's burn in so the media shouldn't be a question.
Have you double checked with the first page in this thread to make sure you have genuine TY discs? first page of TY thread This should clear up any questions on the authenticity of your discs. :P
Ok the other thing to consider would be f/w (firmware). Which f/w version are you running? Is it the BUFFALO patched f/w? If not you may try that for a couple of reasons. It allows bit-setting, normally patched software has better compatibility with more discs on the market because the writers want it to succeed beyond the original f/w. They want it to be BETTER in other words. :)
Some things to think about and research. Good luck and let us (me) know what you find out. As I said I have one of the DVR-112's on the way. :)

Thanks for replying so quick guys...Im positive that the discs are genuine, ive used ty's for over two tears now all from the same supplier SVP.I wonder if i have a 'dicky batch', as they scan ok but not as good as youd expect.(this of course depends on what you use to scan....nero gives me an average of 95-97% whilst dvdinfo pro gives me 98%.)However,the pioneer drives will read a ty disc, but not burn. They are also not recognised by infopro to scan which is strange cos my old 108 did.Im using 1.09 fw from pioneer on the 112, but i think ill give the buffalo ago as ive nothing to lose.dou have a link for it?.The ty discs im using are ty03 16x silver printable and have the serial GH000076 and GH000132.thanks
