Refresh my memory :) Which 2 models did you pick up?

Cincy was having problems w/ his new LH-18A1P but I greenmans has one 2 & I don't think he has any problems.
Hopefully those 2 will chime in :)

ok i'll kick in here, why i don't know but here i am. LOL. yep i've had almost zero problems with the drive but my old mobo and i are never speaking again. LOL. i guess that i got lucky in this LITE-ON purchase thing. it seems that all of the people here that have one of the LH-18A1P optical drives have had some sort of problems except me and UnJust2u. I don't think he writes with his tho. i haven't seen a post that indicates that he does but on the other hand i've seen him mention burning with his NEC i think. who really knows and cares at this point. lol. you guys just want a better writing/burning machine no matter the drive maker. :)

ok what do you do now? i still can't believe that there is so many problems with this drive, but it's not an isolated incident so the validity of the problems are real. i've questioned some of the intelligence but never cincyrob even tho he may rummage around in the dumpster every once in a while he still is a smart cookie and also smart enough to ask some of the gurus/knowledgeable for advice to make sure he's looking or doing the right thing. btw that's exactly what i do. there are a few select here that get the crap bugged out of them by me and whoever else is smart enough to tap their intellect. no BS here the truth shall set you free as they say. :)

i'm all tapped out cincyrob on this ordeal and what to do besides make an exchange for a better drive. If it doesn't work with minimal effort then try something else in this case. it's nothing like the crap i went thro with my mobo and the pixelation issues my system was giving me. whole different story and really not worth the trip if you know what i mean. lol.

well what else do we do? i guess i'll burn some more kiddie movies and do some more scans for the scan thread and maybe sneak a couple of TY's in there to make it official. LOL

It's all in the signature guys, would you rather burn well for Greensman's pic, or CincyRob's pic? Maybe I'm wrong, but it's something to look into...

Guys: I have the same as CincyRob.184A. I forgot to say that it is not everytime I burn, but I would say about 1 out of 10. I will follow up immediately after running one through Infopro and then burn another that will be perfect. Sometimes instead of crc errors it will be a burn that leaves a different color rim and sends up that message that the dis was defective. I use nothing but Tys

Have you tried setting up the new Litey as the "Master" Drive? I'm sure you've thought of this already, but if you haven't, it may be a shot in the dark.

Maybe it's just me but I have almost always had one model lite-on dvdrw drive or another. I have always had better success and results with DVD+R media over DVD-R media with all my liteys. Then again I have also always had better performance and results with verbatim dvd+r's over all other media, including taiyo yuden with my liteys. So what do I know.

I switched exclusively to verbatim dvd+r's when I started having some pausing/skipping about every 10 or so ty's I burned. My verbs NEVER pause, skip, or pixelate and I've burned a bunch of em. Just something to consider. Just maybe it isn't the lite-on dvdrw drive. Try some verbatim dvd+r's with your liteys and give it a chance to learn the write strategy.

Plextors, which are supposedly the best drives made, send a sample blank verbatim dvd (can't remember if it's a +r or -r) with their new retail drives (or at least they used to).

Yes, I am pro verbatim DVD+R, but for good reasons. They have performed better than any other media for me. Just my 2 pennies.

Mort it was Verbatim DVD+R that Plextor sends with there new drives.Plextor test there drives with Taiyo Yuden so TY media is a perfect match. however Verbatim does just as good i just prefer the TY

Rob i PM(ed) you about your problem. a rollback or cross flash of that drive may work. i burn TY DVD dash R with my Lite-On SHW-160P6S with never ever a problem. Lite-On just got it wrong when they released that drive to the market

as far as the -r goes.. i burnt one of the 8x-r ty's my buddy gave me.. it had some problems starting to burn but it did burn, useing imageburn. i dont use alot of -r's so not to worried about it.. the 2 +r's i got to burn 1 with neroexpress and 1 with imageburn. took a few extra seconds like it was thinking about burning then it went into its burn mode....i just dont know if me just takeing my time with it letting it burn more TY's with Nero or image burn it will learn the media and be able to use all programs with TY media... ive used all my different programs with my VERBS i have... gonna burn a couple of the kids movies make a copy for mom and dad to have. dont wanna just burn movies and have 4 or 5 of the same movie laying around...lol......

as far as the firmware goes this drive came with the first version of it firmware(there have only been 3) ive flashed it with the newest now.

sure wish i got 2 of the SHW-160P6S when i got my first one..lol
i got another 28 days to get this one to work right if not RMA.....lol

i did 3 burns. had to do all 3 with Nero express to be able to burn to my 8x+r hub printable TY's. but they did burn. and each one got easier to do.. it didnt pause just went right into writing to disc. i used clonedvd2 to rip the movie and then used Nero express to burn.
i did try once to burn with clonedvd2 but didnt work. lost 1 disc... gonna do it with Nero express for a while then try clonedvd2 tired of wasteing these disc..lol
ill post the scans in the Nero scan thread. still not sure on this drive. well as far as burning TY's...it does verbs awsome..lol

yujenh,
i have the LH-18A1P but i won't ever recommend it to anyone again. lol. cincyrob had 2 of those things and couldn't get anything to perform up to standards for more than 1-2 burns. it not only wouldn't burn TY's but in the end wouldn't burn Verb's sooooo you make the call there buddy.

if i was to recommend anything available now it would be the Pioneer 111D/112D, NEC, or LG but who really knows at this point. BENQ quit making drives, the new LITE-ON's seem to have some problems and the retail/oem version of the YUDEN T02 is almost impossible to find at a GOOD price. those and the DVD+R Verbs are about the best thing that i've ever burned so a little sad about that and my friend taking an A$$-whooping from one of the new LITEY's. LOL.

NOW somewhere on TOPIC.
when are we gonna see the YUDEN T03 available in a retail version? i haven't seen anything that indicates as such. i did notice that some of the online sellers were carrying the T03's but they're a little higher than the DVD-R's.

with some research and some more asking around maybe you can make an educated decision on a new drive. GOOD LUCK and happy burning. :)

hey guys,
thanks for the comment on the liteon. I just wanted to know if the price of the TYGo2 might come down a little be or is sms going to do more sales on those items since they are kinda being phasing out slowly. Are we going to have better chance of getting 16x value lines now?? Because we were able to ge the 8x when sms is phasing out the 4x.

Yeh I got the same as aabbccdd when I ordered my VALUE-LINE TY's. I did make an order for the 8X once at SMS.com and got them unbelievably enough but the others came in as 16X. So I guess it's hit and miss most of the time.

cincyrob you mail that thing back yet? Just wandering. ;-) Sent you a PM. I'll be on and off today so it might be a while before I respond.

Well, the reason I ask was because the ones I ordered came as 8x. It was around Valentines day with that special. The one's I ordered
on Decenber was the 16x. So I am trying to find out what gives. Well, I really dont burn how lot at 16x anyways but it would be nice to burn at 12x and I knew those TYG02 will do 12x with my benq's.
By the way, does overburn cause any problem with quality?? does it score lower??

thanks
