I paid over $200.00 for my ext. Plextor 716 and it sits by the way side now because I mainly use the Benqs unbeleivable drives for the money. Chris
Edit I'm really bad now thought this was the other thread I was in last night. Chris

@cincyrob
I too had a lightscribe LG and so i chose the DW1650 from newegg. I would stick with newegg and get the 1650 and pass on the 1655 with lightscribe. Present lightscribe technology has been a flop, IMHO.

LOL cincyrob
i only have (3) three Benq 1650s, and mine aren't from newegg! i paid a premium for 2 of them from ncix (Canadian company) before they were available here in the U.S. ($60 U.S. a piece, so double of what they are going for now) the prices have dropped so dramatically that once they are in stock again, i see no REAL reason not to get one, you're getting it at 1/2 the price i paid for mine and i've had nothing but success on the 1650 (probably about 1,200 burns total on the two units i currently have in my systems) :)
as i've said so many times in various other threads, these Benqs are IMHO, the "best bang for the buck" drives available on the market today~ :)

You guys are scaring me on the Tigerdirect thing. I have used them in the past for simple stuff, media before I knew about the good stuff and cheap hardware. And now I have purchased (on Monday) some new computer parts. No media because I can get it cheaper in town or from Meritline. I was going to PM aabbccdd, but I have bugged him enough in the past. Thanks buddy for your help. Are they poorly rated, sell fake stuff, or just bad service? I know Newegg is great but had some problems with them sending to a different address so decided to go with Tiger because they would let me sent it somewhere other than my house. Had stuff ripped off before sitting on the front porch. :( Got it covered by UPS though so no biggie for me. I ordered the BenQ DW-1655 because they didn't have the DW-1650 and I thought the Lightscribe thing might be of some use. Give me the scoop guys (gurus) and I will convert once again. LOL. Thanks in advance for the grilling. :P

Having different billing and shipping addresses should not be an issue at NewEgg. I've had plenty of items sent to my job that I ordered from them (NewEgg)...

Same here with Newegg, I'm never home during the day and it always seems to rain when my box is on the front porch. Besides, there is always someone at work to sign for my goodies, namely..Me!.

glad you have had success w/ the TYs...may you have continued success with them for months to come~ :)
@greensman
yeah, you have to call your credit card issuer and add an "alternate address" onto your credit card on file in their system, after that, when you need to have a company ship your purchased product to a diff. address, it will verify properly and you can have it sent/delivered to ANY address that you add to the credit card company's record of you on file~ :)
@all
i actually ordered my other Benq 1650 from meritline months ago, i received it next day (being in CA and driving distance from their warehouse LOL) with no shipping problems whatsoever. as for tigerdirect, i've ordered from them before on quite a few occassions, but the only probs. i encountered from them were their customer support dept. where they WOULD NOT honor my $50 rebate on an older lcd monitor i purchased from them years ago (filled out rebate form properly, even sent the UPC coding along with original receipt via USPS certified mail so i KNEW they received it within the given time frame of the rebate, they obviously couldn't give me the excuse that they "never received it" because i had proof from USPS the exact day and time that it was delivered...needless to say, i never got my rebate, but i later sold the LCD monitor for the same price i paid used only for about 3 months)...which is enough FOR ME PERSONALLY to never deal with mail-in rebates ever again if i can avoid it~ :) other than that, they have competitive pricing on MANY parts and shipping times were never a problem from my own experiences.
i prefer newegg for computer components however because they have been a pleasure to work with and i get everything within 2 days maximum (being in CA once again) the only factor that would convince me otherwise to purchase from another vendor is the CA sales tax i pay on everything from these reputable west-coast retailers. when your order is to the tune of thousands of dollars, CA sales tax will tack another few hundred onto it, so i look elsewhere if that is the case and i can buy identical products out-of-state for a lower shipped/non CA sales taxed price, it's all about price shopping for the lowest SHIPPED/taxed price... :)

I wanted to post some scans for comparison! I have a TYG03 in the mix just for the Doc. :p I'm like a kid with a new toy and wanted to share, hope this doesn't bother anyone but I wanted to show why we use premium media even though we don't really put high stock in these scans. It does show the difference with the Memosux brand media. BTW these all play just fine even the RICOHJPN R03 disc. :p
Scan of a home dvd on Verb MCC 003. (93)I actually ripped the image from the Memosux disc (scan below) from a friend and reburned the image onto a Verb, how does it score so much higher than the Memosux. WOW.
Scan of a home dvd on Memosux RICOHJPN R03(84) Had to scan it 3 times to get a score this high. lol.
Hey a score of 95 on a Verb MCC 003. Yeah!
Pretty nice score on a TYG03 (93) burned at 8x of course.
All of these were burned on a rebadged Lite-on SOHW-1673S and scanned with the same drive. btw it is the same setup that scanned the last set of burns (scans) I posted. Interesting stuff to me thanks for all your input the last few pages. Always up for learning new stuff, getting educated that is. :p

Burned at 8X on Pioneer 109 (fw 8.57)
Burned at 8X on LiteOn 1693S (fw KSOA) now using KC4B fw

Got some questions. Is it advisable to cross-flash a DVD drive with another company's firmware? I have a Memorex DVD burner (rebadged Lite-on SOHW-1673S, same shipset company as the SOHW-1693) and was pondering the idea of a cross-flash. Would this make the drive better in any way or just rinder it useless? I will be changing my setup a little bit in the next week or so and also wondered if this would create better burns? I am going from a Dell P4 1.5GHz w/ 512 SDRAM to an AMD 3200 2.0GHz w/ 1GB DDR RAM and 1000Hz FSB (I think this is correct and yes this stuff is from Tiger because of what a previous post indicates, lol). I was hoping this config would give me a more stable environment and better everything. I have mentioned in the past the Dell is 5 years old and a great computer but again it is 5 YEARS OLD. LOL. docTY sorry if this is the wrong thread but you guys are so helpful and knowledgible thought this place was a start. Please re-direct if need be.
........c
PS Be careful how you answer I may PM you and bug you to death, just ask aabbccdd. LMAO. Not really, thanks for the help again, all. And a great weekend to everyone. :)
