In regards to DL media, no disrespect to taiyo yuden, but I seriously doubt they can produce any better DL media than verbatim does now. I've never had any problems with verbatim DL media whatsoever. Verbatim already makes "the good stuff".

so far, from what i have seen, ALL office depot branded discs have been MIT (made in taiwan); this will definitely hold true for ALL Ritek manufactured media as well as they are a taiwanese exclusive manufacturer~ :) you will not see Ritek MIDs in "mij" spindles under any brand name~ :P

Hi Doc ole buddy. How be you? Good I hope. So far there seems to be a fairly descent inventory of 8x verbatim DVD+R inkjet hub printable media which is good since they are my favorites.

Doc- I do not mean to be disrepectful[being off topic], but I cannot remember the thread I was in and I only subscribe to a few... so am sure it was this one[or maybe PC build?]. A while back we talked about doing differnt images at the same time w/ the light scribe- I have just done a few w/ two drives and it was flawless...I am going to get one more drive to bring the time down, It take about 15 to 20 min. for one, but if you did three at a time the 15 to 20 min. is no be deal, concidering if you did it any other way the over time is minamul.

mort81,

work is getting busy again for me, haven't had much time for anything else these days...other than the occassional burn and PC build/tweak~ :) LOL how are you doing?

i have yet to try the inkjet printable Verbs, but all figures/comments lead me to believe they are of the same quality as the "regular" Verbs that i use in the DVD+R format, only printable! :)

i'm quite pleased with the 8x DVD+R MCC003s, much more so than the MCC004s (16x DVD+R)...i don't even consider the DVD-R format as my scores were consistently lower w/ the DVD-R format with Verbatims~ if i use DVD-R every now and then, it's only TY for me~ (TYG01/TYG02 mostly, but i got quite a few TYG03s for later use) :)

it's good to know that the inkjet Verbs that are your favorites are still available, seems to be Joshewah's favorite as well~ :) $17 for a 50 pack of PRINTABLES is a decent deal, unfortunately, i just have no time to print onto my backups, a 5-sec. Sharpie scribble is good enough for me~ LOL

@herrick

no disrespect taken, it was more than likely in my thread here that Lightscribe was talked about, i don't have a Lightscribe capable drive at this point, so i will be of very little help to ya in that dept. :) perhaps the others that contributed regarding Lightscribe could offer you some tips/assistance if they pop in here...

i just noticed your system in ur sig...it's quite similar to my own AMD rig (same mobo, same round cabling...everything else is slightly diff.) that i am using right now to type this response...out of curiousity, is it OC'ed any? i'm also running in SLI as well, but with dual evga 6800 ultras and using dual Dell 20" widescreen LCDs for displays...

anyways, just an interesting observation i noticed...hope all is working well for you on your setup, don't worry, someone with more extensive Lightscribe experience than me will pop in here and offer you some suggestions; but if you have any questions regarding your computer setup (or were thinking of OC'in), i am more than familiar with every component you are currently using~ :)

Good to hear my frend... AND yes I am intersted in oc but at this time I am not ready.... Have to get a better CPU fan.... Lately my temps have gone up [have been doning alot of multi tasking at an exstream] I believe the stock fan cannot keep up... LOL As for the light scribe, I remember someone asking if you could do two images at the same time- SOOOOO I figure what the hell give it a try... and WOW no problems, except the time issue- theres only one way to beat that and thats if you have a gig that can pull it off [Multi light scribe drives]- but really I am not that impressed w/ it- had some fun for awhile, but really not that inpressive, maybe it is the media I am using... I will get back at ya w/ beefing up my machine there DOC just doing some other things first which in the long run will help me OC ALL IN ALL there is no better media then TY- got to love it- tried so much other LOL

Two words,
Spring Training.
'nuff said.

DocTy answered your question regarding OD disks, recently picked up a 25 pack of the DL disks with a 60% off coupon, $24.99 - 60% = $14.99, couldn't pass them up.Burn good, play on all my equipment, booktyped to DVD-ROM. No complaints.

This group is wonderful. I have bought a BenQ drive and all is well and I only buy Taiyo or Verbatum disks.

My question is there are two Verbatum disk; Normal and Data Life Plus, which is suppose to last for 99 years(?), is the Data Life Plus that much better? Just had to ask ;-)

well, in my own experience, i've used BOTH the datalifeplus and the "normal" Verbs you speak of...i find from my own testing that there is NO DISCERNABLE difference between the two~ :)

i believe Verbatim has since dropped the "datalifeplus" marketing/packaging on their discs, so if you purchase data life plus Verbs now, they are considered generally "older stock" :)

since all of my own datalifeplus as well as the "normal" verbs have had the MCC coding (mitsubishi chemicals corp.) MID "stamper" on them, let's not get into the details of WHO actually made them under whose standards and whatnot...ALL of them have performed terrifically, all of mine happen to be "made in taiwan" if that is any indication of what you could look for on the packaging :)

so, in MY OWN opinion, based on what i have personally used in the past...there is no REAL difference between the datalifeplus or the "normal" Verbs that you can buy at any store such as BestBuy, Circuit City, Staples, Office Depot, etc. they are high quality media and work well for ME and my various setups/drives~ :)

as to which one of them lasting 99 years...i dunno, i won't be alive then, so to me, i don't really care~ LOL
besides, in a hundred years time, even my kids and grandkids and great-grandkids would have moved on from "dvd formats" to something much more advanced in the media field~ :)

Hi donfjones
If that's what's etched on the back by the inner hub than sounds like they are not genuine.
Where'd you get them at?

A nice program that afterdawn hosts. Simply pop the disc in and select the burner in the ID program. It will tell you what it is.

eBay - they do have the slight gold appearance on the top and silver on the bottom, like authentic TY discs I have bought before - does that make any difference, or just make them "pretty" fakes?

Sometimes you gotta watch those media id codes - they can be faked. And Taiyo's are the one's they fake the most. (hmmm wonder why :) )

Best way to tell if you have the 'real deal' is to look on the back for the etched code - -R's begin w/ GD00xxxx, GG00xxxx or GH00xxxx depending on the rated burn speed. (x's represent #'s)

Hmmm Ebay - stay away!!! If you don't see ones of those codes etched on the back of the disc - they're fake.
