FAKE...lemme guess, "silvertek" media from ebay? LOL
definitely FAKE Taiyo Yudens..."pretty fakes" would be a nice way of describing them, but i don't think you could be so kind to the QUALITY of them~

I downloaded "DVD Identifier" from CDMedia.com, the these eBay DVDs should as "TYG02" with exactly the same detail info as the TYs I have which are "real".
The hub system does not look the same, and that coding is completely different - have you heard of discs fooling the software?
Should I go get another flavor of DVD identifier and double-check?

Quote: The hub system does not look the same, and that coding is completely different - have you heard of discs fooling the software?
Taiyo Yuden MID codes are one of THE MOST frequently faked coding on the market, simply refer to my very 1st post in this thread, i list ALL pertinent inner hub coding that are GENUINE to authentic Taiyo Yudens~ :)
as much as you would LIKE to believe that you got a great deal on ebay for some TYs, i'm sorry to disappoint you and tell you that what you have stated previously, regarding the inner hub coding...is VERY VERY similar to many other members i've assisted in determining REAL vs FAKE Taiyo Yudens...
and if you had purchased them from a seller by the name of "silvertek" or associated with "silvertek media"...i GUARANTEE you that what you have in your hands, is 100% NON-GENUINE TYs, despite what dvdidentifier, dvdinfopro, Nero cd-dvd speed, DVD Decrypter, or any other media identification software tells you~ :)
also, if you knew who i was here on AfterDawn, especially dealing with Taiyo Yuden, you're going to have a very diffcult time convincing me otherwise that your discs are GENUINE, i have fake TYs in my possession RIGHT NOW, different "fakes" than the ones you have, but "fake" nevertheless~ :)
another DEAD GIVEAWAY is i'm betting your discs are NOT "made in japan"...whether they are manufactured in taiwan, china, hong kong, or some other country, just know that GENUINE Taiyo Yudens are ONLY made in japan, nowhere else~ :)

Nice to hear from the Doc. Mort81 and Doc I needed that laugh, Mort81 you know how to get the Doc going. Just kidding Doc, you are the man when it comes to quality media. Good to see the AD addicts helping us newbs, you know we need it.
@donfjones,
Be sure and read the first few pages of this thread they are more than helpful. When I first found this thread it had about 70-80 pages and I read every one of them. Yeh I read fast and thought it was very informative. I have received (read and asked) advice for more than just media in this thread. These people are great and have no problems assisting the needy. Good luck and happy reading.
btw I purchased some of the Valueline TY's (TYG03 GH000125) and they seem to work just fine for me. Especially liked the price less than $30 for 100.

Both of those are made by Plextor. The difference is the 716SA is the sata drive.
aabbccdd has Plextor's & can give you the rest of the scoop.
Still on my wish list :)

In addition to what binkie said in regards to the plextor 712a, it will only burn +r media at 12x and -r media at 8x max whereas the 716's will burn both + and -r media at 16x.

herrick , the PX-712A and the PX-716A aren't being made anymore. and that is correct neither one has a sata connection ONLY the PX-716SA does which is still being made. and all three models are true Plextors under the premium line.
and Taiyo Yuden ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like your last TY's were rated at 16x and your new ones are 8x. Use dvd identifier to give us the media code and also list the digits around the hub of the disc.

Make sure your f/w is current. Just because the drive is new doesn't mean it has the latest f/w available.
