Hello their dlc2000!!Can't say for sure, but I think I might have found the problem.I keep 2 stacks of back-up blanks that I know are GOOD (ProDisc old media #,Ritek G04s)bougt way back when all was FLAWLESS!So now when I have the slightest problem w/Media,I slap in one of these Disc's.If it burns bad, then I feel I must be having a problem with software. So I simply uninstal Nero & Re-Instal.This seem to work>Just a process of elimination! Can't really say for sure what might cause individuals problems. All I can do is post solutions,Pros & Cons of my personal problems & hope others Associate & this helps them.Cause when I read in this forum I don't just look for solutions,I look for problems,in hopes of me haveing the same problem and being able to resolve them,& get back to my larceny with a HEY HEY HEY alls OK again (for a little while anyway)
Also I've been useing Memorex DVD-RW 2.4'sINFODISCA01 &
Linkyo DVD-RW 2.4 same Info #.I've been useing these to record my TV shows. With minor issues, about every 5th or 6th record session,I have to do a full erase in Nero.Or I do ger bad sectors. But I did buy all these Disc's that I'm talking about at or about the 3rd month of last year.Times do change!!!!But I will stay in touch with this forum,in hopes that I can help & be helped. All I can say is Thanks to ALL

I bought a spindle of Sony DVD-R ver. 2.0 4.7 gig 1x-8x discs and at 3/4 of the way through the spindle I already have 6 bad discs. I have a Panasonic DMR-E75V and read about some problems with this machine (after purchase) and I am a non-tech kind of person. So, I tried a disk from the bottom of the spindle, too. No dice. I tried a TDK DVD-RAM for the same recording and everything was great. The Sony would freeze up in the first 3-22 seconds of recording. Through the first two I thought oh well, bad discs happen. Then, with the next, at first I thought it was the awful static electricity frying the discs. I grounded myself before going to remove the disk, but same problem. The machine wouldn't open, said it was opening, displayed "close", said "read" for 5 minutes or so. Then it would power down. Power up would cause "self-check" then "read" then I got the message of an error and that I should remove the disk which of course I had been trying to do. I coped with the problem by recording a couple of minutes worth and watching the display so that when it froze, I stopped recording and then erased that recording. Seems like its working to do that and so far I am still getting an hour of recording on XP.

Just thought maybe I should research and see if anybody else is having this problem. I don't think its the machine as it works fine after I get the initial problem taken care of with these discs by erasing, plus the TDK DVD-RAM works fine. However, as I said, I am a non-tech person. My attitude is that I just want to buy a machine, some media, and record without having to KNOW every blasted thing about how it works. I have a collection of old things on VHS and they are deteriorating and I just want to save them. Why (whine coming on) do I have to struggle with this. And why can companies ethically charge so much for media that causes so much trouble?

Thanks for listening.

Forgot to mention there was no visible damage to packaging, spindle or disks, they came from Target. NOT on sale. No dust, no scratches.

Hey their Fuzzycake if u are going to buy at retail stores stick with FujiFilm last year they were G04's which is ritek, don't know this yr.as I only buy online now.U can find these on sale W/Rebates.
But buy online!Buy Ritek,Redata,Taiyo-Yuden.
I'll buy ProDisc when on sale & try if they work out alright,I'll Buy more. When I start to have problems with them I lay off for a while.Prodisc are my last choice,It's ashame because they have a better printing face then all the rest.I only buy Hub printable DVD's as it is a lot better then labels

Thanks for the suggestions Rick! I live in a town of less than 45,000 people so we don't have lots of retail stores to choose from. I guess I'll have to start on-line shopping.

Try a 50 pack of the ProDisc u can get them at http://www.supermediastore.com/
I use the DVD-R printable to hub,the DVD-R are more compatible to stand alone DVD Players. The worst pac I've gotten had 10 bad Disc's in the 50 pac.But that was way back when they changed their media manufacterer. They have definetly improved since then.
They are really reasonable, shop carful & u can even get free shipping.I keep a shit load of Disc's on hand, just so I can take atvantage of free shipping.Right now u can buy a pac of 50 for Total:26.26 ,this is with shipping. That's $.53 a piece.I figure u can afford maybe 3 bad Disc's before considering changeing media. This is my rule of thumb,if I get that 4th bad Disc I change back to Ritek.Don't get me wrong I buy a lot of Ritek,I keep at least 200 on hand at all times, this is my save for free shipping inventory

Mitsui(MAM-A) problems:

Purchased around 150 Mitsui(MAM-A) 4x DVD-R media around 8/2004. I unfortunately relied on past experience with that manufacturer's CD-R media being of excellent quality. Upon reading further posts on this forum, I eventually decided to run a more thorough test on the media using Kprobe2. Wow, the BLER(which I assume is the Block Error Rate) was huge for the Mitsui media compared to the Taiyo's I got from Rima.com. The PI for Mitsui's were steady at 1200-1400 across the entire disc. The PI for the the TY's were steadily under 30 with a 90 spike once. I attempted this lengthy test on several discs from different spindles and the TY's looked virtually identical. The Mitsui's were all bad but it varied with some having higher error rates towards the beinning and others at the end. Kprobe returned the manufactuer code I got with DVD Identifyer(MCI4XG) but it has "[Nashua]" after it. Guess Mitsui was farming out their manufacturing to those clowns.

I have just finished attempting to copy about 100 of the Mitsui discs and have experienced unrecoverable CRC errors on about 25 of them. Some of these discs played fine after the initial burn almost a year ago, but now most of the ones that error out now are unplayable. Pretty disturbing. I don't remember anyone else posting Mitsui stories so I guess fortunately these are not distributed widely, just be careful and don't buy Mitsui's. I even paid a premium for these crappy discs at over $1.20 a disc. I guess I shall also chalk it up to early learning experience like my experience with the crappy TDK's from Costco.

LINKYO 8X DVD-R White Inkjet Printable.

I picked up 50 of them from supermediastore and so far I've burned 2 of them. They both burned fine, but when it comes to playbackonmy Sony DVD player, I get the dreaded dirty disk error on one. I looked at the dye and from what I see, it looks tohave blemishes on there. Not sure why one doesn't play and the other play when they both have these blemishes.

Being in the process of moving my DVD collection to these with the lable, I'll give you an update on these as I go thru more.

I'm TELLIN U GUYS (Buy->Taiyo-Yuden, Ritek, Ridata)and when they are on sale try ProDisc.Buy Hub Printable,a lot less headaches, then with labels.Take the money u save on labels & buy an Epson R-200 Printer $99.00,prints really nice labels.I've had about 95% GOOD quality on all the above Disc's.Your going to have some sort of problem, with any Disc u use.Whether it be human error,Disc problems,Software problems.Even burner problems. But when everything turns out right for u,at least u know you've a GOOD 'PLAYABLE DISC'.Mine play on 99% of all DVD Player, that I encounter.Remember one thing when buying a DVD Player,MORE is not nessacerary BETTER.When I go to buy a new player,I take one of my DVD's & SVCD with me to try this saves me the hassel of returning it.All my DVD Players Play my DVD's,one on the rare ocassion won't Play a DVD,& one I've got,if I could get a bowl of Cherrios in it it would probably play.2 of Mine even play raw MPEGs with out encodeing. GOOD LUCK GUYS Remember I'n only trying to help!!!Not being a smart ASS!!!Cause I went through the Disc's of hard Knocks.I useta to buy all my Disc's at retail stores..UNTILL I Discovered the Inter-Net (what a savings most of my Disc's average out at .50 or less)Printed labels about .05 or less depending what u put on them.Nice DVD cases W/labels (printed)about .75-Holy Cow COSTS more then the DVD HA HA

hehe. post your bad media experiances here aye. ok. hmmm.... First bad one was with some verbatim cdr's. I was able to create vcd's with em. But when I tried to make a copy of that VCD for mates, the picture was all pixely. Wasn't impressed at all. Hmmmm. the second one and most annoying is with DVD's that I try to copy. It only happens with dvd's that have no region encoding on them. Like all pornos and the crusty demons of dirt series. I can rip them fine and they play perfect as vob's but when I try to convert them to mpeg format for VCD they have this stupid lined effect accross the picture.

Okay, bad experience coming up!

Hardware: Plextor PX-708A 8x
Software: DVD Shrink

Media: Ridisc DVD-R 8x printable
Media Code: TTG02
Where bought: SVP (I have to add, I've used SVP a bit, and they are excellent. I also note they don't stock this disc any more.)

I've not had a single disc on this spindle work for me. I've tried everything - upgrading the firmware on my recorder, trying different software - the works. Discs are appearing to burn okay, yet won't play in either my Sony DVD player, or the Sanyo one (or the onboard Plextor)

It's safe to say I won't be buying Ridisc again.

HELLO their dominocat..me thinks your problem is the Plextor PX-708A 8x does not support dual-layered burning your trying to burn a Disc with the capacity of 8.5 Gigs with a burner that only supports 4.36Gig..You need to get a new burner

The PX-716AL, Internal Slot Loading DL DVD±R/RW CD-R/RW supports 16X DVD+R and 16X DVD-R Writing; 8X DVD+RW and 4X DVD-RW Rewriting; and 16X max DVD-Reading, 6X DVD±R Double Layer. The DVD/CD burner also boasts high-speed 48X CD-R Writing, 24X CD-RW Rewriting, and 48X max CD-Reading.
Price: $149.00

The PX-716A Atapi supports 16X DVD+R and 16X DVD-R Writing; 8X DVD+RW and 4X DVD-RW Rewriting; and 16X max DVD-Reading, 6X DVD±R Double Layer. The DVD/CD burner also boasts high-speed 48X CD-R Writing, 24X CD-RW Rewriting, and 48X max CD-Reading.
Price: $229.00

Hi Rick - as far as I know these discs aren't dual layer (just checked with DVDinfo Pro, and they're definitely single layer...)

I've ordered some Datawrite Titaniums, which I've had no problems with. These Ridisc ones are now just big CD rom's...

here is another bad experience . i tried some pathetic prodisc's . i run them through dvd identifier and they come up as , dvd-r prodisc technology inc , prodisc f01 , speeds 2x,4x,6x . the label says 8x but identifier doesnt show that . i tried them anyhow at 4x . nothing but skipping and locking up . i wasted 5 of them and threw them in the trash . good thing i only bought a 25 pack of this land fill material . prodisc and cmc are both belong in the trash in my opinion .

update i tried some of these prodisc's on my girls nec 3520 and they seem to work fine . no playback issues at all . now i'm thinking my sony drive just doesnt like them for some reason . i dont get why 8x prodisc's are showing up as 6x max though . thats odd . maybe these disc's are not bad media after all . maybe my burner is just picky with these .

Ok heres the problem....
Media: Prodisk 8x dvd-r printable hubs
Retailer: www.supermediastore.com
Burner: Pioneer DVR-A09XLB

Now I cant help noticing that this same problem keeps on arising everywere I see prodisc's discussed. 3-4 out of every 10 I use to back up dvd media end up freezing up or totaly glitching out towards the end, or last 2 chapters of the movie.... I use DVD Shrink 3.2 which never gives me a problem, in fact before burning to my prodisc's the movies play flawlessly on my computer... I use Nero to make the backup and just seem to get piss poor results 33 percent of the time. I just purchased 50 verbatim printable hub dvd-r's in hopes of it being a higher quality media. Can anybody tell me what the hell the problem is here? Im on the verge of freaking out about this, I invested a lot of time into backing up about 50 dvd's only to find about 15 are crap at the end. Also...can I use DVD Shrink and recopy the dvd back to my computer off of the copy that is giving me problems? or is this not likely? Please help me afterdawn, I am very confused here, thanks guys!

Hello nevaland..use DVD Decrypter to put your movie back onto your hard drive if it copies it ok then you are in good shape with no loss.. ProDisc..if u read in these forums..we are all haveing problems..last year they were an excellent choice..this year Soso..find those who are not having or having problems & find out which burner they are using..in the meen time I recomend TAIYO-YUDEN or RITEK, or RIDATA Branded Discs. These seem to work well, for all. With Minamil problems..I found if u got something else to do..burn at a lower speed 2x..go away for 30 mins. This might help with your Prodisc problem at the last 2chap.issue..Also check your Disc & see if they are all in the same area of Disc..if this seems to be happening around 4.30 4.25..U can alway shrink your movie a little more..I had to do this with about 200 Discs.I set DVD Shrink to 4000 or 3.97,When Prodisc went to a different manufacturer..Boy o Boy was I pissed..they offered to take back the discs..but by the time & money u spend its just not worth it

Thanks for your advice, I just recieved a 50 pack of verbatim printable hub dvd-r's in the mail this morning. The first few have proved to be good so hopefully I can keep batting a hundred. You wouldnt happen to know where I can find specs on the printing serface diameter? Inner and outter for Verbatim 94854? I have my outter set at 120 and inner ant 23, but it still leaves a little white on the inside ring, and the occasional white on the outside edges, thanks for everything!

I have been reading the posts here and thought I would add to it with my experience. Last year I had very good luck with both Prodisc 8x-R silver printables and Ritek +R printables. I burned many (well over a 100 of each) without problems. So a few months ago I order a few hundred of each from Rima.com. They were unusable and I tried them on all types of burners with many errors & coasters. The testing results with Nero on my BenQ 1620 were terrible. Since this disaster (which a few were sent out to customers and returned) I try to use Taiyo Yuden. I have used these exclusively for the past few months without a problem and they test near perfect with Nero CD/DVD Speed test software. The -R Silver (8x) work great with both BenQ 1620 and Pioneer 108 burners. I guess if you are just burning movies, cheap is fine.. but for something that important pay the extra and get the best.

I bought verbatim 16x dvd+r from blank disc shop in tubs of 50, on my 8x
burner they will only burn at 4x and on my 16x burner they only burn at 8x. It will allow burn speeds of 12x and 16x but they only get as far as the lead in then fail.

DEAR andusandy]
at the risk of sounding silly did you check your burners manufacturer's list of reccommended media for your burners or burner? The same media can perform differently in different burners ! This seems like an obvious statement of fact and it is . I have never had the error problem to the extent that you've had but I have had similar minor problems with some media ! for instance I have used Philips 8X DVD-R media in my Nec Nd-2500a which is a drive with a 8x write speed the Philips 8x DVD-r media would only burn @ 4x on this drive although it recorded well @ 4x! I also have a Nec -3500 drive in the same computer and using the same philips media this deck will burn it at 8x apparently the firmware in the Nec -3500 is more compatable with this media than the firmware in the Nec -2500A . verbatim as well as Taiyo Yuden & many other brands make excellent media so I don't think you have bad media ,maybe just not so compatible with your drives firmware. I don't know everything but I think that this is a start anyway ! You can look on your burners manufacturer's website or call there service # for recommended media for your burners if the manual if it had one did'nt list any ! sorry you had problems hope I pointed you in a helpful direction and good luck with all your burning -Peace
