Quote: tschelp.exe is a process associated with SnagIt from TechSmith. SnagIt is an advanced screen capture utility.
Recommendation: Not a critical component, but see the information above before disabling it.

to those who had a guess on the scans i posted earlier, they actually play back flawlessly~ no pixellation, no freezing, no issues~ even the ugly high spikes u saw from the scan, nothing during playback (good guess greensman, i suppose i gave it away with my little inferences into how people bash Prodisc) :) LOL
while i would NOT RECOMMEND prodisc, there was at one time where the media produced by them were very good, given your system was setup correctly and you didn't overburn~ :) i haven't used any 16x Prodisc yet, so i don't know if they've become "better" or "worse," but if you have, please do share you experiences with them, i'd be curious to know~ :P
nice to see everyone working together to get to the root of all these issues, whether it be DMA or which "mode" u in~ LOL, or the lack of impressive "scans" at this time, given the knowledge of the "regulars" here in my thread, you guys are in the best "hands" possible to finding a resolution~ :)
now back to my grey goose and redbull, have a good evening/morning to you all~

It is never too early for Redbull if you want some energy. At least that is what I am assuming the Doc is talking about, the highly caffeinated RedBull energy drink, kind of taste like kool aid but does give you a jolt :)

OK Doc why would you want to dilute Grey Goose? Only thing I can think of is your using the Red Bull as a chaser. lol. My 2 cents!
@DocTY,
So your'e thinking that a run with DVD-RB should take care of the anomolies that I am seeing in the scans and playback with the Nero Recode2 program. Assuming the ratio is high enough to effect these factors. Because of time would the Recode2 program be okay with let's say anything between 85-99%? I like the DVD-RB program but 30 minutes compared to 3-4 hours is significant. As a side note I do want good quality backups so if time is a factor so-be-it.
Also since you've done this a time or two (crossflash and f/w updates). What would you say to crossflashing a BenQ DW-1655 to a DW-1650? Would there be any benefits and so on? I know that I would loose the LightScribe abilities but I haven't been that impressed anyway. A Sharpie and a steady hand is faster and less annoying. lol.

from what i understand about the benq dw1655/1650. the only difference between the 2 is the lightscribe capability..from talking to docTY and others that have them thats the impression i got from the 2 drive...seeing you cant find either right now.i heard that they are not being produced anymore and being upgraded to the dw1670....

greensman,
There isn't any patched f/w available that I know of to crossflash a 1655 to a 1650. I really don't see any need since they are basically the same drive except the 1655 has LS capabilities.
You should be ok with Nero recode2 at 85 - 99% but of course ultimately dvd-rb with CCE or procoder2 will always provide better video quality. Taking nothing away from my good buddy kivory, but I had to work hard to convince him to make the transition over to dvd-rb and now he is a true believer.

herrick,
There is a free vs of dvd rebuilder but it doesn't have all the bells and whisles the pro vs does. CCE and procoder2 are both encoding utilities where clonedvd2, DVD Shrink, and Nero recode2 are all transcoding utilities. Encoders will always surpass transcoders for video quality especially on high compression projects but you sacrifice time with encoders. Neither CCE or procoder2 are free.

Thankyou sir. I was so impressed with dvd-rb/cce I just had to pass it on to my buddies.
cincyrob,
Nero recode2 may say encoding but it transcodes in reality.

You will see transcoding and encoding used interchageably. Recode is a transcoding program.
Quote: What's the difference between DVD Shrink and DVD Rebuilder?
DVD Shrink is a transcoding program. Transcoding or more specifically Compressed-domain Transcoding means normally a re-encoding process that changes the video or audio features, such as resolution or bitrate, by changing parts of the a/v content, but not by reconstructing the content again (which is the case in encoding process). Compressed-domain transcoding also maintains the format of the file same as in the original file. Transcoding doesn't encode it takes out small bits of detail to make the DVD video smaller. Faster then encoding.
DVD Rebuilder can be used as both an encoding and transcoding program by using different modes and is a good program to re-encode a DVD. Encoding is the process of changing data from one form into another according to a set of rules specifiec by a codec. Often the encoding is done to make a file compatible with specific hardware (such as a DVD Player) or to compress or reduce the space the data occupies.
Encoding will give you a better picture quality when you need to 'shrink' your original DVD down to a very low bit rate.

gus,
Yes the lowest quality of CCE basic (2 passes) is better than any trancoding utility. Time required is greatly dependant on cpu speed but encoders always take longer than transcoders.

@cincyrob and others,
I was surfing the net and came across this DVD Burner. I know it is from TigerDirect and maybe a refurb (didn't look close enough, sorry) but it is a rebadged BenQ DW-1640 (Sony DRU810A). At $49.99 it is a little more expensive than the BenQ DW-1650 but it is available. If I remember right this drive (at least the benq dw-1640) is loved by many of the gurus.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/...3&sku=S167-4212
@The GURUS,
Would this be worth getting guys or just a stab in the dark?
