@ihoe - I think I know what is happening. Went back to read exactly how you ended up creating the final burn to TYG03. I believe what is going on is you copied the original material to DVD + media which is booktyped as DVD-ROM. You then used Blindwrite which basically does an ISO copy of that image which contains the book type setting of DVD-ROM.

if that's the case then is it booktyped as a DVD-ROM or not? if that' a way of getting around the booktyping for DVD-R media then is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Maybe it's a counterfeit +R, mascarading as a TYG03!

IHoe,

I'm not getting into this discussion again but as you already know it is physically impossible to truely booktype a DVD-R to dvd-rom. The booktype field on a DVD-R is prewritten as DVD-R and can not be changed. The booktype field on a DVD+R is blank and therefore can be written as dvd-rom. There were some work around utilities that would write on a portion of a DVD-R other than the booktype field making it appear to be dvd-rom but they are not truely booktyped dvd-rom since it was written on the wrong part of the disc.

IHoe,

If it makes you happy ok but it is misleading (physically impossible). Look at windtrades explanation. The work arounds for booktyping DVD-R to dvd-rom aren't proven where the dvd+r's booktyped dvd-rom are.

I'm not criticizing you, just telling you how it is.

@ihoe-

I did more research on the topic of DVD-R media being seen as DVD-ROM. It has happened to me a few times and I never did understand what exactly what was going on. If you Google around you will find there are quite a few threads on DVD-R and booktype of DVD-ROM. The best ones that explain the phenomenon best are here; there are lots more.

In a nutshell, as Mort81 states, on DVD-R media there is a physical tag in the pre-recorded area identifying the disc as DVD-R. This can NEVER be changed. How then can a DVD-R be interpreted as a DVD_ROM?

Basically, when data is written onto the media it is written in sessions and in the "header" block of these sessions, a booktype tag is written, in this case DVD-ROM. Look at the second link. In this way, the utilities can show media type of DVD-R and booktype of DVD-ROM but it is completely dependent on which "physical format information block is being read. It may very well be that if the true physical block shows DVD-R, the utility does not even bother looking up the book type in the session header.

@windtrade............thank you for that first link...... I didn't know this little flummoxing incident with the DVD-R booktyping was seen many times by others. This is the first time I seen it in my own findings with burning DVDs. Mostly I burn my YUDEN0002s so I don't use the -R media .... untill I started experimenting with TYG02s.... which led me to the TYG03s. I knew it was physically impossible to booktype a -R but was amazed that it was fooled to look that way! still very interesting as others say it's debatable whether it makes the disk more compatible. I wouldn't know ..... I don't have the experience with this to make any judgment one way or the other. Thanks again for your info! Learning more and more .........

For those who are following the OT printer ink posts, the OA100 ink from private.abacus24-7 arrived and seemed to print fine. The pictures seem a bit washed out but it could be the photos as I did not have time to tweak them up. Did a bit more research and found who is distributing OA100. The cartridges look exactly the G&G ones but they look like Canon ones. How they sell the stuff for a buck and a half is beyond me but I'll buy more from them.

I have lots of that 00A100 and it is a little washed out for me also, I just figured it was because I have been using cheap thin paper [thinner the worst it is] and of coarse my printer sucks, but when I get ink from Atlantic ink I believe they are G&G in a green box... Do not know if it still the same, sense I have not ordered from them in some time
