Thanks all... will run some scans in a couple hours, what is the differance between the two tabs I mentioned above? I do not understand the PIF and forget the other... in the past I got high scores of [95-97] but the PIF was high? and I really did not understand any of the figures and there as far as I know no where to get a cheat sheet to go by... I just paid attention the box that said quality score.

@windtrade
Yes the box is yellow for the BCI-6 carts (OA100 brand). The plug on the cart is orange. Has been good ink for me and my sis-in-law. My Pixma 6000D uses 6 of them. All of them together are cheaper than one Canon cart! $9.60 vs $12.

@cincyrob - go here and you shall find the answer you seek. :-) http://www.ggimage.com/en/index.asp
@garmoon - The picture on the QA100 box shows carts that look same as GG carts. I called abacus and asked who supplies their carts but asked in a leading way, "Are these the same as the GG carts you used to carry?" Yes. Kind of asked for that. Will have to wait to see what is really in the box. If you research the ggimage site and believe what is posted about their company they are HUGE and certainly supply much of the world's aftermarket ink and believe in the quality of their ink stock as they could never ship that much junk and stay in business.

My disks seem to deteriorate after watching them in my dvd player, is this normal?
I tested the disc after burning, came out with a QS 95.
Tested the same disc after wtaching it on my dvd player and it came out as a QS 90. With more PI Failures near the end of the test. I am worried that the disc will not work after a while, and if this is so then I dont wanna do any more :p.
The disc played fine btw, although will it play fine in 6 months ?

as long as you use good media it will (Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim) and store them correctly. your burn speed is important also(8x max.)
what media are you using?

the quality scans arent that important . you can do a scan 5 times and come up with a different numbers 5 times
do this, take a dvd that you just backed up and haven't played in your dvd player and scan it a few times and see what you come up with.
the Verbatim DVD+R Verbatim is top notch, you might try burning them at a higher speed (8X). bet you will get a better quality score, try it a see

Quality scans cause more confusion than they are worth! Stopped doing them a while back. As aabbccdd says, numbers change for same disc. If I can play it, and especially if I can rip it, then it's a 90+.

So true herrick
Different drive used to scan - different score. Different speed used to scan - different score & so on.
I still play with them from time to time just for the heck of it.

Well it does make you wonder... theres got to be a program that will work, I mean Nero is a good product, but speed scan sucks- on the other hand I does seem to pull in! Theres so much gray areas determing disk fault, stand alone issues and so on... would be nice to nerrow things down quick.

Like most here I use only Taiyo Yuden & Verbatim for my own copies.
I keep the burn speed from 8x - 12x - so far no problems - though I mainly stick w/ 8x for now.
I keep the pc as clean as possible & do the regular maintenance bit. Firmware up to date and get out the canned air maybe a few times a year.
I try and keep the compression low on most.
And no multi tasking - that's what the laptop is for :)
Doing this - problems are minimal at best for me.
But yeah it would be nice if there was a program that was right on. I think the only way to truly test the disc quality/errors is with some high end equipment. Screw that when discs are around 30 cents :)

LOL... Ya your right I do the same- Love TYs I use them alot, I even multi task... right now I am trying to see how much I can multi task while burning [ Lab top needs new HD, and its a Pen. 2 so really dont play with it much, onther then notes at work]... run a x2 4200+ per sig. can so far in my little trails and errors get good disks, it is very forgiving... I realize multi-tasking while burning is tabo to most, but I do beleave with x2 processors going the way they are it will soon be a given. I use TY and maxell MIJ- and so far the results are USE TAIYO YUDEN while mult-tasking. That being said in low budge machins there has been problems though... For my back ups and stuff I do fro friends I never multi-task, just like playing around sense I have no life LOL

I have the hyper threading bit on w/ good specs the PC I mainly use for burning so I will admit that yes I do multi-task at times. I have a few pc's and a laptop so no real need to multi task that much.
Keeping the pc clean goes a long way. Now cleaning out the inside well I try and do a few times. Need to do one today. Worst thing is they have clear sides so I can even see the dust in there :)

Glad to see you haven't left too. Hadn't seen you lately. I mainly use TY TO2s but yesterday I tried a X16 verbatim advanced azo +R on a newly flashed (BCIC) Benq 1650. First @8X with normal time 9mins. Then @16X (first time I ever tried 16X burn speed)and the fastest Nero Burning Rom would burn it was 4X even tho it recognized the 16X blank and had burned the previous blank @8X. Any ideas? I don't plan to burn faster than 8X but just curious as to why it won't burn at 16X. I realize that the benq was learning the media with Qsuite but that doesn't explain the 4X burn.

Quote: Theres so much gray areas determing disk fault
I feel your pain - trust me. I burned away for years never doing "disc quality" scans until I recently had a massive set of media and hardware problems. I quickly got overly confused about scanning and how it would tell me if the burned disc was good.
I've mentioned this before so I'll be brief but if what you want to know is if the disc you just burned is good then you need to do two simple things.
Start Nero CD-DVD-Speed.
1) Run a ScanDisc. If it is all green it is telling you that the current DVD drive can read all the data off the disc just fine. If you see yellow and red or skips, this drive has problems reading this disc. It does not mean it is a total coaster but it is telling you to beware.
2) Run the Benchmark test while having the PC do nothing else. If you get a clean straight line it means the drive was able to read the data completely without hesitation and the disc is great. In other words, all that PIE, PIF crap is just a load of crap. All it shows is the amount of low-level internal processing going on while reading the data. No matter what the disc scan shows, if the drive can read cleanly (all green scan disc) and at full speed (benchmark), the drive is able to completely achieve complete and full playback of that disc and there is nothing else you can do to tell you more about the quality of the DISC than that. Period.
That said, you can repeat the same tests in other drives to get an idea how universally readable the disc might be. To me who cares, if it plays in my drive I can always recopy it if need be someday.
Just for fun I post results of disc scans from two different drives on two different PC. Exact same model and firmware level and same disc. The results are basically identical. The graphs were basically identical as well. The "quality score" was 93.
General Information

Now - Just to show how absolutely absurd and insane and a waste of time "disc quality" testing in Nero, look at the same disc in a different drive, this time an old Pioneer on a third PC. Note it shows 8x but actually read at most 4x (refer to scan time).

Look at the eye-popping PIE and PIE numbers and still a quality score of 97! The Benchmark shows a perfectly smooth curve starting around 4x, ending around 9x. The ScanDisc shows 100% green and final speed of 12x. You know what - the disc is FINE and plays just FINE in that drive.
Remember only two things! - Benchmark and ScanDisc
hummm- guess it was not that brief after all. Just trying really hard to steer you all away from a lot of wasted time, energy, and uncessary confusion, and guide you to what matters which is SO simple.

Yeah I'm still hanging around :) Started college again recently after a very long break :) So that's my priority - well guess my job too(damn - when will I hit that lottery - lol).
My one LiteOn is not that fond of the 16x Verbs. Don't get me wrong they burn & play fine but when I go to 12x or 16x - Nero or ImgBurn does not burn them at that speed. My laptop forget it - burn failure.
Now 16x Taiyo not a problem.

What about 16x Verbatim's that are YUDEN000T03? ~LoL~
I don't burn at 16x at all. I burn at 12x sometimes, allthough I can rarely get Nero to burn above 4x.
:P
