hmm i would check your cable.. n consider rebooting everything until it says connected properly....
i can help you with problems u may have for your network... i have around 6-7 pc's all connected +plus my ps2, so i know all about how to set up the ps2 apps, with routers hubs, bridges etc..
it should work fine, i believe the problem is in ur cable, in that windows ( i assume ur using windows :P everyone does) is detecting a weak signal, which pretty much means it knows there is a cable connected, but wont send any information over it, a big no no for what u want...
try a diff cable, n try rebooting everythin (strange but works), n even replugging everytin...
if that dunt work post how u have everytin setup... i will look over it :P

Alright, I figured it out.
I just gave myself a random static IP and made plugged the same into the PS2Reality, and since they matched up I guess it worked!
Thanks again WiredBojo for all your help

i dont consider myself a noob but i have troubleshooted this problem for an entire evening with no resolve...
I am making a cd with HDLD_SVR.ELF and a SYSTEM.CNF in order to put the sever on my PS2 wia HDLoader. I made the cd with the two files and one with a dummy file to take up space and neither can be read by ps2 via SM or by HDLoader. i need this to start running HDL Dump and putting games on my ps2. does anyone have any ideas on how to get this to work?
ill state the obvious so no one has to ask. i use a fliptop and swap magic. ive burned other things on the same brand media so i know it works. it wont boot on its own, with swap magic, or read in HDLoader.

I'm not sure if this will help, but try using CDLoader or ZoneLoader to boot your custom CD.
So the process is, of course, SM>[CDLoader or ZoneLoader]>custom cd.
I hope this helps.

i tried swap magic cd and cd loader...neither work...i even hooked the HD up to the comp and copied the image to the HD...and tried to run it from HD Loader and the screen just goes black... i dont think the CD is made right...either the guides i have been following are missing a step...or my PS2 if just "special like that"...i also tried putting 100 megs worth of dummy files in the image to make the size bigger...no luck... any other ideas??

I remember wiredbojo had written something that helped with the black screen, and it helped me too.
Quote: when u make cdgen image save it as bin and cue (NOT ISO).
google cdmage and d/l it and run it.
choose scan,then repair then rebuild.
now use WHIIP or whatever it was called and use the cue and bin file to install to hdd.
You can probably burn the image to a cd-r too, but i'm not sure if it would install.

im new at this too but bear with me...
titleman is a small command line based program you use to inject the SLUSXXXX name into the files you are using to build your trigger image for a ps1 disc for an MC exploit. (correct me if im wrong)
PS2 Independance Independence Compiler can be found here... http://www.ps2hd.com/ it is used to make exploits...there is alot of reading on that site...im still working my way through it...
feel free to ask anymore question you have...and ill do my best... i have HDLoader working...but haven't gotten it networked or the MC exploit working yet...let me know if you have more luck...

thanks for the reply, i suppose i will have to wade through all the stuff on that site, or can reply straight back and say "no, you don't!" (please do).
Anywho, i will start working on the PC to PS2 network tomorro, as i have just completed the rebuild of GT4. It took forever!
Thanks again

i finally got Execftp working and can see everything on the PS2...i also got the MC exploit working with LaunchElf 3.4 which is cool...the only thing that wont work is HDL_DUMP. i updated the config.dat to show my PS2's IP to be 192.168.1.109 so that it works with execftp. but when i run HDLD_SVR on my PS2 its still 192.168.0.10 which doesn't work. how can i change it so that HDLD_SVR uses the IP 192.168.1.109 as well so i can access it from the computer?? is there a config file for that as well??

If i have an image that i want to copy via HDL Dump but when i find it in the program nothing comes up in the "startup" field and i just get a pink screen when running it from HDLoader...were can i find what i should put in for startup? its a homemade image of old Sega games so it didn't come from a PS2 disc...(there is no SLUS_XXXX)

mage hello,
for ip addresses ( you may have fixed this already :P but u didnt say so), make sure that if u are using an image, that the IPCONFIG.DAT or CONFIG.DAT is set to the address u wanna use, inside images such as cd's/files booted using hdloader, theres one of these files (its either for execftp or hdl server, not sure) but i believe it looks at this file first. *
also do some research and make sure they are both looking in the same place, i cant remember what it is, but they mite look in different places on ur mem card.
n okay with ur image, startup isnt very important, but if u feel that is the problem... i can help :P
open up the image (iso cue bin etc) in like isobuster (any one will work, u could even mount the cd and check that way).
next look for a file ending in .elf, there should be one on the root of the disc **
** if there is multiple, open up system.cnf and have a look what .elf file is mentioned, that should be in ur startup field.
okay thats it im outtie, sorry i havent been here awhile, built my new pc, and forgot about my login detail on afterdawn :(. onli just managed to get back in
ps. if any specific thing confuzes you just ask, and i will elaborate, also on msn im bojo@iinet.net.au (eep mentioned my email, better not get spammed), i dunno whether i will reply too often, as im always away, but u can try and hope im in a good mood

few things, does this same .elf file work when u burn the image as a cd?,
there is also anutha way u can get stuff going, but u need an app to launch elf files (ps2os is one such app, but there are many)
make a cd image of ps2 os, and dump that on ur hdd, then put elf files u want to run, in a partition on ur mmc or hdd, (hdd needs dms format, u dunt need a dms chip to use that btw).
when thats dun boot hd advance-->ps2os-->like explorer thing-->x on ur elf file and it should run
there u go, also if ur sega emu is good u can select the files off that same partition and not need to make .iso

hi, I read through some of the posts but couldnt find my anwser...
when i was doing the titleman -c step, does the PS1 disk need to be in your cd drive?
when I established a connection with my ps2, I found that I did not have the SYSTEM-DATA folder in mc > 0. so where can i put it instead?
the ps1 disk that i am using isnt loading up into the ps2. it starts to load then it goes back into the browser where it shows the memory cards and the disk. Is htis because i have a mod chip installed or does my lens need to be cleaned or something else?
be appreciated if anyone could answer these. ive been tryign to figure out how to transfer games through ethernet for a long time

bobbinbob, uve fallen into the everyone else is doing it, so i should too thing.
the independance exploit is onli useful for those without a modchip.
u can just burn all ur homebrew proggys onto discs, saves u alot of hassle.
in short dunt bother with the xploit if u have a modchip, ur onli making everything more complicated for yourself.
ps. if u have a problem, and either my advice fixed it, or u found out how to fix it... please post results... so ppl with the same problem wont ask again

ah, well i suppose thats why this wasnt workign for me then, im using a mod chhip. didnt know that this one no mod chip only, too bad.
is there some way to transfer games from your PC to PS2 hdd through an ethernet cable if you have a mod chip though? Im on a laptop so connecting it directly to the computer is kinda out of the question haha.

lol mate u missed what i was saying
u can use the xploit, but its simpler not too, u have a modchip (exploit is for ppl without modchips)
just burn the images of the proggys onto a disc.... explain ur setup and i will go into detail of what u need,

hm maybe that would be best...
right now I dont have a dvd burner, mine blew up on me about a month ago. I have some ISOs on my laptop, i have a modded PS2 with a hardrive attached, and a crossover ethernet cable attaching my PS2 and my laptop. I dont have a desktop so I cant attach the hard drive directly to the computer. If there is a way to transfer games over an ethernet cable to the PS2 that would be easyest, if not then maybe ill have to invest in a dvd burner again but id rather not spend the money.

well okay then..
u should be able just to download and burn hdl_server to a disc, (make sure it has all the files required). this would run the server and allow u to put games on via hddumb.
too easy lol
u just need a cd burner is all

okay try hitting refresh a few times... also make sure ur firewall etc is open..
i doubt that will work but its worth a try... i vaguely remmeber the same error, it mite be solved by just rebooting ur pc..and ur ps2 too, start the pc first.
more detail about ur setup would be good, as id lyk to know exactly what u have done and what ur setup looks lyk
