Thanks man :)
I have the address and port number in, and I cleared 'use passive mode'. I'm connecting through a router w/ a CAT5 cable, and yes, I have all the plugs plugged in lol. If I have to open some ports in my router, then I can't, someone set a new password and they don't remember it [ARGH!]. The router I have is from Comcast so I'm pretty much renting it, I could always get a new one so I can get in with the 'admin' password. And I have tried resetting the router, didn't work. I hope I don't have to go into there lol.

i figure u know what ur doing, but this is anotehr stupid question, is the cable X-over or straight through. I heard some routers wont allow X-over cables, only straight through ones.
also do u have ur ip addresses assigned by your router?. also why not try directing plugging ur pc into your ps2 (x-over rewuired) to see if the problem is with your router or not

If by straight through you mean Ethernet cables, then yeah I'm using those lol. I think my ip address is assigned by my router, not sure though.
I'll try directly plugging the PC to PS2 tomorrow, I have the HDD in right now and I'm installing some games lol.

okay i would eitehr edit your router (if you can) or change the ipconfig.dat file (either on your cd or put one in the mc).one is you gateway(your router, most are 192.168.0.1, but your might be different) another is the subnet mask (255.255.255.0) and the other is the ps2 ip. i find that the ps2 ip should be set outside the range of you router, that way there will be no conflicts

I just want my PS2 to be able to share my PC's WiFi network and access the internet.
Ihave connected the two with cross-over CAT 5 cable, and enabled the PC's NIC in ZoneAlarm firewall, but the network configuration disk on the PS2 fails to get a connection.
How do assign IP/DNS to the PS2?
Many thanks for an pointers...

okay this is all on how ur setup, so please post ur setup,
i assume u have router ---wifi--->pc----cat5 xover---->ps2
now ur router may already set ip addresses, check your manual,
i like to assign my pc, and ps2, outside of the router ip range(this means no conflict between anything if you have lots of pcs, like i do) this should all be in the guide that came with the NA, and i assume the slim ps2 must have one aswell. if not search the net it should be easy.
the ps2 can assign its own ip or can get one assigned to it from the router (NOTE: getting an ip assigned makes using hd_dumb over cat 5, very difficult)

also under winxp, u will probably want to bridge connections.
start, control panel, network connections.
there should be two connections (+plus possibly one saying internet). select these two connection (shift click) then right click and select bridge connections.
this tells your pc that the connection of the ps2 to pc goes to the router. and vice versa.
if you have a complex connection (router's hub's, wifi and the like, i have them all at my place) post your setup and i will try to help you out as much as i can.
NOTE: whoever was talking about exeftps .68 works off hdd, but .69 (or the .69 i had, only likes to work off a cd, death screen when off hdd)

Thank you wiredbojo.
I do indeed have:
ntl SACM -> WRT54G WiFi router/AP -> PC ->CAT5 crossover> PS2
Direct into the router with a straight cable, I can get to centralstation.
I have NOT yet bridged the two connections, so I will try that ASAP!

Hey Everyone.
Another noob here.. Sorry if this has already been answered but had a look thru this thread and not really found an answer..
Ok been thru the entire process of uploading the FTP image file to the PS2 hard drive.. ie created the image, connected PS2 hard drive to PC, used WinHIIP, uploaded the image file.
It shows on the program list on HDAdvance and when I run it I just get a blank screen.
Nothing seems to happen and dont get any network activity when i run the program on my PS2.
Im not sure what i'm doing wrong but can anyone help please?
Thanks very much
Danny

If you read the thread, then you would have found your answer for the black screen. I'll give you a hint, it's on page 10.
Oh yeah, what version of HDAdvance are you using?

wharris15, you're in the wrong thread and the wrong forum. And I bet if you did a search, you could probably find your answer.

no worries, if that dosent work u may need to look at the router's settings, and if you don't understand em, post em here and ill help you out.
though im faairly confident thats what is the problem. at least for ps2online. and that should help for execftps and hdd dumb once there are setup properly.
also ofnir 1, how did you solve your problem, u seem to have taken the answering side of the thread, would be nice so anyone with a similair problem knows how to fix it.

Lol I haven't fixed it yet. See a couple nights ago, my computer wouldn't boot, and I had no idea what was goin' on. And today when I had some time, I opened it up to see the problem, and I forgot to plug in both my hard drives! So the last few posts have been made from my mom's computer lol.
I have no school today so hopefully I can try it out.

@wiredbojo
I have bridged the connections, and have shutdown AVG antivirus and ZoneAlarm.
I haved added the PS2, LAN card and all my WiFi adaptor MACs to the MAC filter list (remember, a straight through connection to the router allows me to get to centralstation).
The PC is on, I power up the PS2, and the bridge gets connected.
However, the PS2 cannot connect. Also, when I do the custom setup, selecting ntl settings, then do the diagnostic, it fails on the IP no. stage, the first light.
Hmmph!

12. Advertising via forum messages is strictly prohibited.
And I don't think it matters if you're with the company or not. And, unless you're in China, you can't play backups without a mod!

spc trie this,
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/p...
its a link to trouble shooting wired and wireless network.
that should be the problem if the ps2 cant go through the pc.
also a ps2-->pc requires a X over cat 5 cable,
while a ps2-->router requires a striaght through cable, and im fairly sure most routers have to do this. the cable that comes with a NA is a straight through cable (i know cause im using it in my lan)
this cable was designed to go straight to a router/modem.
you could either chop of the ends, and rebuild it, or much simply go to a elec store and buy a small Xover cable, and if that works you know the problem was the cable :P
id say the latter is more likely.
