haha ur problem mite have been what i said anyway :P. the new n/a is a new piece of hardware to the router, and is assigned a new id lol. ( i wont go into the intracicies of this :P)

true u don't need a manual... but google one.. ur old n/a should work, u will just have to configure both ur system and ur ps2 for it... currently u have dumb luck i would say.

if your router has dhcp turned off, then it would be what u say.. but i doubt this as it is always turned on.. and is one of the reasons u get a router..

seriously check ur router (try typing 192.168.0.1 into the browser, a few get access this way, and username admin pass admin,)

if not find ur manual... it is very strange that ur isp supplied the router without it

In the tutorial when you install the hdl dumb server, i get an error or at least i think it is an error. First of all i can't rename the hdld_server.elf to BOOT.ELF because there is already another BOOT.ELF in the same folder. Which one do i copy to the memory card. I tried both and all i get when i load up the psone game is a white screen and i cant target the networking server with hdl dumb from my computer. I got everything else working including the FlashFXP connection, i connect without a problem but i just dont know which files to copy to the memory card.

PS2 Rocks!

jilti find it interesting to read that u use 192.168.1.* (*is a wildcard :P,)

maybe it was ur n/a adaptor then... though i think thats a lil weird...

dejan,

sorry i cant really help independence xploit isnt ma cup of tea.... if you have a modchip you can just skip all that crap.. or you could used a swap-magic disc too.

dejan, you can connect to your PS2 through FlashFXP. Are you running a MC exploit, and what is it you are running, Keylauncher, or Elf launcher. Now, if you are able to select the ELF file that you want to run on your PS2, then the rest is easy from here. When you connect via FlashFXP/ExecFTP, you'll see 3 directories on your PS2

hdd - hard drive
mc - memory card
pfs - (not too sure, but comes in VERY HANDY)

don't rename the hdl_server.elf file. goto the directory mc, then 0, then BADATA-SYSTEM. transfer the hdl_server.elf file here. Now you are all set, reboot PS2 and in keylaunncher or elf launcher, select hdl_server.elf and it'll run it. Then you can use HDL_Dumb or HDL_Dump to transfer ISO's to the HD.

Now for anyone wanting to know how to transfer NON ISO's and Bin/Cue files I'll explain it. Comes in useful knowing how to do this. You have to use FlashFXP and ExecFTP. First, you will need to use DMS Format Tool to partition a portion of the drive that you want to designate for MP3's, AVI's, ROMs, ELF's... Think of it as Organizing your PC and creating folders and setting a MAX filesize for each folder (You can increase the size of the 'folder' anytime). DMS Format Tool can be downloaded here http://www.ps2hd.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=54
Once you've created the folders and specified a max size usage, connect via FlashFXP/ExecFTP. once connected push 'Control R' shortcut to run a RAW Command. In this little window, you will put "SITE MNT /pfs/0/ hdd:+ROMS" (ROMS is the 'folder' name you created on DMS) Also, don't put the " " with the command. In the small window at the bottom it should say
[R] SITE MNT /pfs/0/ hdd:+ROMS
[R] 214 SITE MNT succeeded.
now access the PFS directory, then 0, and you are now in the 'folder' that you created with DMS on the Hard Drive. Begin uploading your AVI's, ELF's, MP3's, ROM's... I made seperate folders for each. This will help save MC space running ELF's off the HD. Now when you have finished uploading your files push 'Control R' again. Now type in "SITE UMNT /pfs/0/" You are all set now. Go boot up a media player or keylauncher or what not and boot your new files from the HD.

lol yeah.. though peeps should already know how to do that... cause its how you get this exploit to work...

also how the hell do ppl get this far without.. a swap magic disc..or a modchip... or a pressed HDA.

i assume you would need one of these at least.

The fastest way to transfer avi/mp3/roms etc besides ftp ? ? ?

Currently my setup is as follows:

100mb network card in my PC (connected via FlashFXP)
100mb 4 port switch
NON-MODDED PS2 running EXECFTPS.ELF

(Download speed is around 15 seconds per MB)

To transfer a 170MB DivX file it takes around 45mins which is pretty damn slow...

Can WinHiip or HDL Dumb be used for this process?

Any suggestions or solutions would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps if I connected the PS2 HDD into my PC.....

Ran an PS2 Emulator
Load execftps (somehow, if at all possible)
and then transfer...

Actually i'd imagine that it wouldnt work...seeing as I'd be connecting locally......definately not possible...damn.

There has to be another way to transfer larger files onto a PS2 HDD instead of FTP (170mb - 45mins) Most of the time execftps crashes 70% through the transfer......the connection just drops out I can't even ping the ps2, so i have to reset PS2 and re-connect restart transfer from 0 as it doesn't resume!!!!!!!!

Does anyone else have the same problem or am I the only one who wishes to watch DivX from my PS2 HDD???

This sucks my computer is a piece of shit:
PII 500mhz Processor!!! OH JOY HOW FAST IT IS (((NOT)))
NO SOUND CARD
PCI VIDEO CARD

This is why I need PS2 to play DivX!!!!

I have all four seasons of Family Guy on DVD so basically I'm looking at
9GB DivX DATA
Transfering at 1mb per 15 seconds
Total of 38 hours to transfer 9GB which I could be happy with if EXECFTPS didn't crash all the time!!!!!!!

Any suggestions or comments on the way I'm going about this would be useful even if it is to tell me that its the only way to do so and yes execftps does crash quite often.

ARRHGHGHGHGHGH It just crashed again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even an FTP Client that will send custom commands on transfer completion e.g.

Finished storing whatever.avi
SITE UNMNT
SITE MNT
Then Continue with Next File in queue.

Does anyone know of an ftp client that will do such a wondeful thing?

I have no idea what I'm talking about but here is a suggestion anyways. Is there a way to slow down the transfer speed? I know that it is painfully slow already but maybe the transfer is getting hung up because it cannot write to the drive fast enough and then hangs. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Yes. FlashFXP When you have it opened and connected, push 'Control + R' and a little window will open up to type in raw commands.

Unfortunately lowering the transfer speed failed to make a difference...which leaves me stuck until slicstik releases a new version of execftps...0.70 I'm assuming.

For anybody that is having the same drama's that I am having the only thing I can suggest for now is leaving your playstation off before transfering any data...perhaps its just overheating??

Or unless somebody writes a new program designed to copy larger files onto the PS2 HDD at a faster rate.

Any hoo it's all working reasonably fine thanks to the guys that wrote all the elf's...I'm sure they've earned it.

But keep working at it...its still no match for xbox softmods.

I hate XBOX

Can someone help me out there...

I've been trying to transfer files to my ps2 through a network, but no matter what I do, it never works. And this is either through ftp or hdl dump.

I am able to view the files using execftp and flashFXP/filezilla but i can not transfer two or from the playstation. I am not sure if i am even seeing the right things either... In the HDD dir, i made a partition for roms and videos using dms format. i figured that i would be able to access those partitions using FlashFXP, but all i see are files that represent those partitions.

For using hdl dump, i'm using hdld_srv and gamo's gui. I can access my disk, and read the TOC. When i transfer files, it will go a couple seconds into the transfer and give me an error. If i try it again with hdl dumb, it will say i have an APA partition error or something like that. I've had this happen consecutively 5 times. I have to remove the messed up install after every attempt using dms format. Though, I have no problem what so ever transfering games locally.

What could be my problem? I've been reading through like 5 different forums and guides, and everyone pretty much gets it right from the start. Please someone help!

I copied this from someone elses post in a forum so I could remember the commands. I cannot remember where or who it was but it has been quite helpful to me.
"Mounting partitions

You have to mount partitions to read/write to them. This is assuming you have the standard "__boot" partition:

SITE MNT /pfs/0/ hdd:__boot

Then you browse to the pfs\0 folder, not the HDD folder. After your transferring is done you MUST also unmount the partition before disconnecting:

SITE UMNT /pfs/0/ "

You have to replace the "__boot" part with whatever file name you made . I used it for my pgen roms so my file name was "+ROMS1" so the command looked like this:

SITE MNT /pfs/0/ hdd:+ROMS1

and this

SITE UMNT /pfs/0/ hdd:+ROMS1

Hope this helps

I just have a quick question:

Do I need to have an HDD to be able to connect my PC to my ps2 using a crossover cable?

When i SITE MNT a DIR, I will only be able to access that one DIR through my ftp client right? Also, When i dump files into a DIR, do i still have to predefine the DIR, as in make the partition prior to loading files to it, or will i be able to just make directories however i want.

Just out of curiosity, you wouldn't happen to know how the pfs folder works? From what i gather, it looks like execFTP makes that folder as a way to transfer the files to the partions. I've been using launchELF to transfer my pgen roms and I don't remember seeing a pfs folder.

Oh yeah, any idea on why my image transfers with hdl_dump havn't been working? I think i remember reading that hdld_srv doesn't support transfer compression. Maybe there is a setting that i havn't seen to disable this on my dumping tools.

thx for your help btw...

I believe the answers are yes, yes, and no

thank you wiredbojo, but I suppose my question was too general to really provide me with the answers I need.
so I'll be more specific
I read that I can stream things such as movie files from my computer to my PS2 if I have a crossover cable, a network adapter for my ps2, and the PS2VFS. I connected the two, and followed instructions to network using http://www.ps2reality.net/users/opeh/150/main.html.

When I had the cable plugged in, my computer said there was a weak network formed. I plugged in what I thought were the correct numbers (which could very well not have been, for I don't really know) as far as IP and PS2IP etc. and hit connect. When I did that my PC said that the network cable was unplugged.

Like I said I don't normally mess with IPs and network stuff so if all I did was get numbers wrong, or even the settings with the PS2VFS that would be good, but if I'm missing something important, like I thought I may have needed the HDD, I would rather know and not do it than continue to mess with the thing when there is no need. The biggest problem is that none of the tutorials out there are for people like me who don't really deal with that kind of stuff.

Any assisitance is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
