Using:
HD Advance 2.1
PS2 Standard
----
Hey peeps.
Well after hours of fruitless labor im giving this up as a bad job.
I've done everything that has been suggested on here to get this damn thing working and nothing is happening.
I've made the .bin file, i've repaired it (had over 11,000 errors apparently), converted it to an .iso, uploaded it to the PS2 hard drive through direct connection to a PC, uploaded the image file with WinHIIP and hdl_dump and I still get nothing on the screen what so ever.
Feel like im either just banging my head against a brick wall or doing something completely wrong.. I know its probably the latter but I just cant see what im doing wrong at all.
If someone could please PM me and i'll go thru step by step what i've done I'll gladly go thru it.. save clogging up the board even more I would be so grateful.
Thanks very much for the help anyway guys.
Danny

what version of execftp are you using?, i found that the lastest one dosent like to work off hdd.
if you have a modchip, just burned the fixed iso onto a cd :P.
i run my exeftp and hdd_bumb and hdadvance all of a mega dvd, that allows me to select which one i want to run

I think its version 0.69
My ps2 isnt modded yet.
Having said that.. just read the info.txt file that comes with execftp.. the 3rd line down reads
It supports access to memorycard and harddrive (not HDAdvance partitions .. yet)
Dont know if its just an old file bundled with the software or i've not got the latest version?
Thanks again

Hi all,
Firstly - thank you to everyone one who has given up so much time in these tips - if it wasn't for you I certainly wouldn't be anywhere near where Ive finally finally managed to end up (ok - I'd probably still be playing sensi soccer on the spectrum...ah the days...).
Anyways - I've followed all the guides and I've got up installing the hdl_dumb server onto the memory card. And I'm getting a red screen of death.
First up - my ps2 is chipped - I dunno if that makes a difference. I've renamed boot.elf in lower case. I've tried 2 ps1 original games. Either I get the red screen or it just boots - in fairness it doesn't boot if I use boot.elf in lower case.
I've used hdl_dumb 0.7.3 and 0.8.2, and I'v pretty much run out of ideas.
Everything upto that point runs peachy - I've got Flash FXP accessing the ps2 - just can't seem to get this last step.
When I put the ps1 disk in I get the screen which gives me the memory card or disk option - I have to click disk several times to get it to load and when it does it either loads (with captial BOOT) or red screen (lower case boot).
Any help will result in a knighthood.....if I ever become the queen of England.......I'm sure it's only a matter of time - it's either me or Elton.
ps Just out of interest - why doesn't anyone say use a PS2 original disk?

I think they say to use an original PS1 disc is because the MC exploit takes advantage of the PS1 boot sequence.

Answered my own query.
Would seem that my mod chip doesn't like created boot disks, so used Independence Compiler 3 to create a disk with the title.bd file on it. Once burnt, reinserted it into my cd-rom and copied the title.db file and the other files as directed in digi-tal's guide.
All I did then was copy it via FlashFXP to the memory card, then created a sub-directory SYS-CONF on my c drive, copied the config.dat file from the previous guide into it and renamed it ipconfig.dat (this changes the ip of the ps2 under hdld_dumb). Then copied the directory on to the memory card, booted up using the ps1 disk and went straight into hdld_dumb.....
laffin'!
Only thing now is I get a tranfer rate of 4kb/s, 2 hours to transfer over an iso, and even then it didn't work!
Wish I hadn't started now! But thanks for everyone's help.

@wiredbojo
I finally got my PS2 sharing my PC's WiFi connection.
ALL I needed to do was enable ICS under XP. Simple!

Ok my question is this: If my exploit and everything works fine, can I just download the hdld_svr.elf, transfer it to my memory card, run it, and then run HDLD GUI to transfer games over LAN? Or do I have to do another step? Thanks!

Ok I'm back and totally confused. I did manage to connect to my ps2 with FlashFXP about 1 or 2 months ago. Today, my brother wanted a copy of the exploit on his mem card and I tried to get connected via flash fxp and it doesn't want to connect. I have tried all day today. I cannot figure out what is wrong. I'm using FlashFXP 2.1 build 923 (my evaluation has expired but after 30 seconds it allows me to open anyways), I'm using the same program on the ps2 as last time "port 21 yadayada" on the screen. I am also using the same 192.168.1.102 that worked last time as well as unchecking passive mode. What the heck changed? Could something have changed on my router? I've tried moving the cable to all 4 outlets on the router - my last ditch attempt at it. Any suggestions?

hahah i know the problem...
the router assigns ip adresses... most of the time these are only valid for say 2 days of inactivity...
try to see if u can can put a new ipconfig file on the ps2, that is out of your router's predefined ip adresses.
eg. my router goes 192.168.0.2 ----> 192.168.0.33 so my ps2 is 192.168.0.35 (it could be 192.168.0.34 but sumtin else is there on my system :P)
you will have to check ur router's range in your system.... and try to put a new ipconfig on your mem card... or change ur router so it works.

okay im looking at my d-link one now, will try to help
config ( u probably know dat)
dhcp configuration on lan
start ip. 192.168.0.2
end ip. 192.168.0.33
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
okay u either wanna change it so that 192.168.0.10 does not occur in the start and end range. or change the ps2 to go to a range outside of it. for more information on changing your settings please consult ur manual :P
id suggest "dhcp configuration on lan" is a good set of keywords to look out for.

Ok found dhcp thingy. It is enabled. Start Ip is 192.168.1.100
Number of addresses is 50
dhcp address range is 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.149
client lease time is 0
Static DNS 1,2 & 3 is 0.0.0.0 ( i can change these i think)
WINS is 0.0.0.0
I wonder if i put the 192.168.1.102 in one of the static dns spots if this would work.
I don't have the manual. Our ISP hooked it all up for us. Besides, real men don't need instructions ;)

Ok nevermind. I found the problem. I first made a new lan cable thinking that that was the problem. But it still didn't work. Then I borrowed my brothers network adapter and now it works. Somehow I managed to fry my adapter. It still runs the hard drive but it won't work the network. Thanks for the help anyways.
