I'm not the one who needs to move on, son. But I'll mention to Supermediastore about making the consumer think they're getting discontinued merchandise; maybe with the AG on their tail they can "move on" changing the label to be more indicative of what the consumer is buying. Anyway, that's an issue I'm going to have with them, not with the forum.

In the meantime, I'm trying to determine if these discs at whatever speed, are the issue. My Plextor hasn't been used more than 5 times as a burner in the two years I've had it, my Mac doesn't have a DVD burner, Samsung DVD recorder is only 6 months in use. I'll make a note about the specifications you give of a proper laser, though. As you say, this does not apply to me, but it'll be a good future reference. Happy New Year to you as well.

MsIrisMG , my guess is even if you were using the TYGO1s you would still have problems. i have used OVER 8000 Taiyo Yuden disc with little to NO problems. run them though "DVD Identifier" and post the results.

the codes you posted are ok and SMS NEVER sales fakes.

ok a few things to try instead of blaming SMS for your problems..

1.first try uninstalling and doing a clean reinstall of your burning software.

2.make sure your running the latest firmware on your drives/burners check here for updates

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php

3.make sure your transcoding/burning on a clean machine meaning doing a disc cleanup and defragging weekly.

4. DON'T transcode and burn with other programs running in the background unless you have a Dual-Core CPU

5. try your burner in a different machine making sure it isn't going bad or try a different burner in your machine.or let a freind try your TYs in there machine

as i said it DOESN'T matter if the media is 8x or 16x your drives will work along as you have the latest firmware on them.you NOT getting the 4x media isn't causing the problem
Look, I know you're trying to help, in your own way, but I understood very little of that, sorry.

What the hell is "transcode"? I'm not an engineer, so speak common English, please. I want my DVD burner and/or DVD-ROM to READ the disc I've finalized and mount it on the desktop; then and only then will I worry about burning a copy of it. I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear on that before. My finalized discs won't read.

To know that "SMS", as you call them, and their bait-and-switch isn't the source of the problems I'm having is a good thing. I plan to be a source of THEIRS soon, though. At any rate, is the reason the discs are not the cause of the reading problems because of the change from DVD-R to DVD-Video during finalization? Can I really rule out then that the discs are the problem?

If you can do that for me in plain language, I'd be obliged.

Happy New Year

@MsIrisMG
Some of the problem is that they assume you are burning from a computer DVD recorder, not a stand alone unit,
I own a Samsung R-120 standalone DVD recorder, similar to your R-130 I believe, I have good luck with the following types of media as well, Verbatim -R 16X, Sony -R 16X, both the Sony brand as well as the TYG-003 disks, the disk will play in all of my DVD players, including the DVD player from hell. the wife's mini-van unit.
I hope this helps, sorry to keep off topic but this may help you in the long run if you can't find the 4X TY disks.

MsIrisMG. transcoding is the burning program reading/removing the protection/shhrinking the file of the store bought dvd.

and after you burn the DVD dash R dvds there STILL DVD dash R . theres NO such format as DVD-Video as you call it lol

I AM done helping someone give it a crack iam out!!! lol

MsIrisMG... The comment about time to move on was aimed at the technology side of dvd media. No more 4x media produced, so on to 16x as 8x is getting hard to find. It was not meant for you personally. I apologize if taken in a personal way..dilligaf9......Also made in Japan burners Favor made in Japan dvd media.

@JourneyFP
Check the disc around the inner hub code - silver part - may need a magnifying glass :) - the back may be easier to read though
Taken from the 1st page of this thread:
4x DVD-R = TYG01 / GD00xxxx
8x DVD-R = TYG02 / GG00xxxx
16x DVD-R = TYG03 / GH00xxxx

4x DVD+R = YUDEN000T01 / i don't know cuz i don't have any :P
8x DVD+R = YUDEN000T02 / TG00xxxx
16x DVD+R = YUDEN000T03 / TH00xxxx

These let you know if you have the real deal and the burn speed associated with the code. If you don't see these than chances are you have fakes.
Never used CDRDVDR Media Store - I only use supermedia or occasionally rima.

@aabbccdd
lol - looks like you do have the 1st post :)

Happy New Year to All!

editted to add: I like dilligaf9 idea - aabbccdd buying for all :0)

LOL, I'm staying out of this one. 4x media is obsolete. 8x media should work with most all drives. You just may not be able to burn over 4x. Outdated firmware could be the culprit.

I don't use 4x media or a dvd recorder but have you tried burning something to these blank discs in dvd burner like the Plextor w/ updated firmware?
I won;t test the Matshita w/ it - I have a Matshita burner in my laptop and put no faith in it at all. 8x media it's ok with it unlike the burners I have in a pc that are max 8x - they are fine burning w/ 16x media.

To rule out the discs use a burner in the pc. It may just be the Samsung DVD Recorder & it not liking the higher rated burn speed TY's that you have.

@binkie7

Your not the first women to say that to me...LOL

But really may the new year bring as much as the last year, you people here at AD have been a God send- really you have no idea the joy you have given to many of people because you have given your time and effort to a simpleton like myself. Because you have helped me many needy addicted people have had some kind of peace and enjoyment where I work- AND for some people peace is hard to come by-
So again, thank you all and may you and your loved ones have a wonderful new year.

Good morning ladies and gentleman,
Well, i am really sory for not showing up earlier to show my appreciation or gratitude for how much help you guys have gave
me thru out the year.
The value line is onsale this week or probably last couple days for 45.99 and i think thats probably the lowest price ever. Its great way to start for a newyear. Maybe, i will be lucky enough to win a PS3 too. However, i hope somebody dont get mad because is kinda off topic and maybe "hijacking the thread".
By the way, I will be glad to buy you guys drink at ANYTIME. I think
Free media especially TY's would be better for you guys then "booze"

Happy New Year to All of You

I just set up a used burner with four PX-716A's on a firewire interface, and first tried some Ritek G05 discs I had on hand with abysmal results (half failed to verify after writing, and many skipped and stuttered in set top player). I checked the Plextors' firmware level and found they were one revision behind, so I've updated them to the latest version on Plextor's site.

I subsequently bought and have been testing with 8x Taiyo Yudens from CDRDVDR Media Store.....

So far, I've only burned a couple of Verbatims but about 50 TYG02s and have been getting disappointing results:

Based on what I've read about the 716's and TYG02s, this seems way unexpected. One thing I'm wondering about is that the code on the hub of the TY discs doesn't follow the pattern mentioned early in this thread. They show: 3G621A600157GG. Is this legitimate? If so, any ideas on why such mediocre (or worse) results? I'd assume the TY's were a bad batch, but the Verbatims aren't doing particularly well either. Thoughts?
From the first page of the thread:
Taiyo Yuden rated speed & format/ media ID coding / inner hub reading

4x DVD-R = TYG01 / GD00xxxx
8x DVD-R = TYG02 / GG00xxxx
16x DVD-R = TYG03 / GH00xxxx

4x DVD+R = YUDEN000T01 / i don't know cuz i don't have any :P
8x DVD+R = YUDEN000T02 / TG00xxxx
16x DVD+R = YUDEN000T03 / TH00xxxx

My first guess would be that you have received a 'fake' batch of TY media. From the codes you have given they don't match up to the ones provided be the Doc. If you can look at the inner hub and make sure of the code that would really help. Also hopefully you have saved all of the bad media to be able to return to the vendor for a refund or exchange if need be.

Go to the first page of the thread (link below) and go by the criteria there to identify your media and let's go from there. Good luck.
