JourneyFP, that code doesn't look right to me . run them though DVD Identifier and post back what there code out as
your latest firmware for the PX-716A would be 1.10 you can get that at the Plextor site.
the Yaiyo Yuden media is a perfect match for your Plextor drives being thats what Plextor uses to test there drives with. i think you have fakes. your best choice is Supermediastore.com for TY media.
and last being thats a used drive it just may be shot lets hope thats not the case
Mort81 yes it is a nice pic huh very classy

Dang Creaky keep rubbin it in about those sexy Verbs but Adriana I must say has them beat.As far as this thread i think it's become an AD family thread that may go off a little bit but still revolves around the Ty's, after reading the first few pages 99% of the questions revert back to the beginning but the wealth of information from the members here from the very intricate knowledge of disc structure to the every day updates that keeps the performance of Ty's and other media going strong is invaluable. As far as hijacking of this thread I think that 99% of the questions on the forums are answered here when info is given on firmware etc.Yes it may go off topic a hair but it stil revolves around the media one way or another by the people that burn a lot more than others that have hit upon a lot of the problems encountered and give the answers readily. I guess i've said enough BUT Happy New Year to my AD Family Chris

I own a Samsung R-120 standalone DVD recorder, similar to your R-130 I believe, I have good luck with the following types of media as well, Verbatim -R 16X, Sony -R 16X, both the Sony brand as well as the TYG-003 disks, the disk will play in all of my DVD players, including the DVD player from hell. the wife's mini-van unit.
I hope this helps, sorry to keep off topic but this may help you in the long run if you can't find the 4X TY disks.
Thanks, I really don't mind the more helpful comments. I'm not sure where they got that idea from my first post to docTY. At any rate, I think R120 is a year older than mine. Mine just came out this year, and I've only had it since May.
BlivetNC, I'm glad to hear you like the Samsung. It's hard to find a forum expressly for Samsung users, otherwise I'd ask some of this there. I've liked mine a lot, other than suddenly finding I could have possibly been burning unplayable discs all this time, AFTER I've started throwing away my VHS masters!
So as you can see my issue is not looking for 4X discs but rather discerning why my DVD-ROM and external drive won't read the finalized discs. My Samsung's manual says that the only option when finalizing the DVD-R discs I'm using is to turn them into DVD-Video. This is what I wanted! I expressly chose DVD-R discs so that there wouldn't be problems, that when finalized, it would be readable by all! And I also bought them as backup for my computer data files, but on the other hand, the blank DVD-Rs won't mount, which I felt they should have if they were the 4X I had bought and paid for. Maybe the speed isn't as important as I thought, but it seems like back when there were only 1X and 2X there were machines that wouldn't play a 2X disc in a 1x machine. I don't know, I didn't major in this.
I thought I'd go to the Official Taiyo Yuden forum and see if I could find out for sure if there's anything about these discs that could be causing the problem. I will happily buy a "made in Taiwan" disc if it means in the end I'll have something that will play not only in my player, but in whatever player I throw it in. You know what I mean. Like I mention in my first post, I want to absolutely rule out the discs and then go from there.
Anyway, thank you blivetNC in advance for anything you can think of, keeping the terminology to a minimum of course, and I do thank you for your input. I'll check back periodically.

aabbcc... about those beers, I just bought 2 cases . where can I send the bill? :)
unjust.. I read some where that 18x will be the highest for the burners and dvds. Most of the new tech is going into BlueRay and HDDiscs. Soon, maybe 6 years from now the BR discs will be 25 cents each, just as their parent dvds are now.

I have a friend that owns a pawn shop and he fixs all kinds of elect. stuff- here is what I have found out... alot of times it does not like DVD-R but will record on DVD-RW? many problems w/ it stopping in the middle of recording, he also stated that the audio tracking has been off on the ones he has played with.There have been many reports when we look on the net for that machine likes to lock up also.
Also for some reason after you burn a disk, there are issues w/ other players reading the disk... It is quite possable that the manchine is a piece of junk- I also have a friend w/ a Panasonic and it is not really friendly w/ other manchins also...
Use a computer and TY and be happy

@Yujenh, thanks for the plug :^)
@binkie7, greensman: I had read about the disc codes at the beginning of the thread but didn't see the quoted pattern. The code I mentioned in my first post is what is stamped in the clear inner ring (these are ink jet hub printable discs), plainly visible and readable from the label side. Looking more closely from the dye side, there is the clear inner ring, a white ring (probably where the hub printable area shows through the clear hub), a thin silver ring, then the dye. In the innermost dye area, I finally spied the code GG000244. That is the code that this thread identifies as belonging to the genuine 8x TY DVD-R, so apparently these are genuine TYs, at least assuming that this is the proper place to find it. No one mentioned which side to look at, or any other codes stamped in the clear area. So, does this sound legitimate?
@aabbccdd: As mentioned in my OP, I'd already updated the 716A firmware. I just checked and confirmed that they are version 1.10.

Seems from this that the discs are legitimate, so either there is something wrong with the discs, something wrong with my procedure, or something wrong with the system setup. As I said up front, the burner rig has been used but I have no information on how long or how much. Know of a way to tell the age of a 716A from its serial number? Are there any diagnostic softwares and/or procedures that guage the "health" of the drive?
It seems like a really nice duplicator but the quality of these test runs sucks...
TIA for your help!

@JourneyFP,
I think you have the real deal there. lol.
Is there any way that you can test the discs on another machine or in another drive in your system? Although very rare there is the occasional bad batch of TY's. I have never experienced it but some of the guys that burn 1000's of disc have come across a bad batch.
Ok, if you find that the discs are good look into using different drives within the duplicator. I can't and won't believe that 4 Plexy's have gone bad at the same time.
Let us know how it's goin.

OK gals and guys, here is some info on MsIris' samsung recorder
Samsung's DVD-R130 Recorder offers DVD-RW/-R and DV input features that let you record TV shows and add home video on a DVD disc and then rewrite over it.
Media Supported: Audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW Recordable Media Supported: DVD-R, DVD-RW Number of Discs Supported: 1.
MsIris..is it possible you were using dvd rw-r discs? What are you trying to copy? Movies ,tv shows? All movies are copyright protected even on vhs. Some tv shows may be protected also. The samsung machine will not copy protected media...This machine will only use DVD-R and dvd rw-r according to Samsungs web site info. The logic program that finalises the dvd is built into the machine, there is a possibility that it may be corrupted. Just a thought. I would buy a 5 pack of dvdrw -r and give them a try..

I think i might be the first one to ask about those 20x liteon burners. Anyways how are they compare to SHW160P6S05 and SHM-165P6S?? Of course, i will be feeding those burner with TY's.
I was going to buy those but the Dw1640 came up and went for them.
So I am still trying to figure out which liteon I should buy first.
@journeyfp
I think the guru's might need little more info to find out whats the problem with your result. It might be helpful if you can post a Nero log or something so the guys can figure out what went wrong.
My question to you is do you always burn with 4 burners at the same time?? I knew the guys would suggest to do no more then 3 for the multisession. I personally only do it with 2 burners and mostly at 8x and doing nothing else.
I also think that multisession thing is quality killing never have
a great result with it anyway.

I tell ya brother I do not put to much faith in those Nero scans, to many inconsistenies-there just eye candy...I put the same disk in three time and have had three different out comes, hay if it pays on a large widscreen and it looks great-its OK in my book-
I never used multi-drives w/ any of my single core CPU, but w/ the daul core using 3 drive has been great- maybe there lays the problem- To bad I think you would have fun with it... something about three drives going at once puts a big O smile on my face LOL

@Herrick,
are you saying the single core being the problem now?? maybe i'll just call santa and reserve a xmas present for next year. Well, if i havent spent all those money on the benq burners and TY and verbatim media, I probably could afford one too.
So is it really asking it (pc) doing too much meaning the single
core doing multisseion for 2 burners??
Whats problem wiht Nero scan then?? is just inconsisten with
the quality score or the pi error too??
I think cincyrob mentioned having lower quality on scans with
the multisession.

yup ive done 3 multisessions now and the scores arent that great. but like herrick says if they play good than its a good burn... and once again i agree with herrick. it is cool haven more than 1 drive burning at the same time. and i also beleive you do need a duel core CPU.not neccasarily the new core 2 duo but a good pentium D a high end one at that.. ijust have alowly celeron 340 2.63ghz but its still cool to see 2 drives go at once. and agreeing with him again the Nero scans are cool to look at not allways reliable

You know... You do have me wondering? I have not used those scans in a long time BUT when things slow down I will down load a DVD to HD and burn to a disk scan it, then burn using 2 drives scan and then burn the same movie using 3 drive and scan... [man, better use a good movie or ill never get rid of them LOL] then see what they all look like in the same place on all disks on a 42"LCD and see what happens?
I will bet there will be no differance in any of them, BUT who knows in till you wast the time... I bet there will be a differance in the scans though- If I remmeber right I bet you Joeryan would be able to shine some light on this...
Im not saying that the problem is a sigle core because I never used mult-drive w/ one... Im just throwing possablities out there? For all I know the PSU might not been enough? I was useing a cheap PSU one time and I had all kinds of troubles, not telling you anything but maybe some things to check out?
I dont pretend to know much, in fact still new in all of aspecs- but I played w/ those scans for months and all I ended up with was a headache and a whole lot of good looking DVDs LOL-
As for a price on a daulcore... you can get a 939 chip that will handle anything you throw at it for around $140.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103735
All I am really saying is those scans cannot be trusted... to many inconsistencies...I realize this topic was ran to the ground months ago, they are cool to play with- but do not be misslead in your work you produce- Use good media, it plays good..[helps to know someone w/ a good TV LOL] it is good- the real question is HOW LONG WILL IT LAST? I have marked the movies ive done using multi-drives so time will tell, but so far they work just fine and I have a libary that three areas at my work borrow from... so they get more then normal use. No problem what so ever in any of the disks I burn from the time I knew what I was doing, that is- LOL The reason I use good media... TY rocks.. and yes let me not forget the VERBS
