thank you very much binkie :) i definitely did not forget you since i've been away, my thread would be incomplete and lacking without your presence here~ :) hope all is well with you too, i've been slammed with a ridiculously high number of patients at work since the year began and just trying to survive at this point. when i do my rounds, i'll be lucky to get a few hours of sleep within a 3 day period. feeling and looking like a zombie is not pleasant LOL.
@garmoon
good to see ya around too, i've just been skimming the last few pages of my thread and just have to smile a bit seeing how everyone is so nice to each other talking about anything under the sun! as long as it helps someone in one way or another, i can't say i can complain~ :)
have a good evening everyone, don't drink TOO much :) be safe.

actually, i would suggest AGAINST ordering 16x DVD+R TYs rob, given that your 18x drive is taiwanese manufactured i can only assume that the japanese TYs MID is not mature enough to be included in the firmware tables for your drive. while i have had decent success with the YUDEN000T03s in my Benqs, it is far from being my "best" media of choice at this point...i still conclude, at least for ME and my various setups, the 8x DVD+R YUDEN000T02s are the "king of the hill" :)
oh, hi everyone...guess who? lol
i was bored so i figured i would drop by my thread to say hello to everyone and to thank all of those that have kept my thread going for so long...i appreciate all your contributions :)
docTY i bow down in your presence. so good to see you again...as far as those 16x TY's go with figureing out i needed t oset my smartburn accordingly, i will be getting more 8x+r's instead..god i love those..lol
really hope ya pop back in again..
hows that system your building for POP's coming along.. lol
really good to hear from ya again/

:) as a matter of fact, i thought it was more than appropriate~ thanks ddp, i did in fact use the nick that you have given me from long ago :P
@all
thanks everyone for the warm regards and welcome, even though i won't be as "Regular" as i once was, i will try to stop by here and there and continue what i really enjoyed doing at one time, which is to help people with a REAL issue that needs assistance (as best i can at least). i've noticed quite a few of you have "stepped up your game" in my absence, which i genuinely applaud you guys/gals for, i'll just interject every now and then when i feel it's necessary :)
to all a good night/early morning LOL

There's gotta be some provision here at Afterdawn, to allow docTY to retain his previous AD status; rather than being a Newbie again. I propose that an exemption from whatever rule prevents this, for "docTY". Everyone knows him as that anyway. JM2C

Ultimately it's up to ADMIN and docTY really. Have fun with that as they say. hahaha.

My thoughts on the title is the gentleman that Doc is doesn't care about the title, but people that know his wisdom when he speaks can pick him out of the masses and give him the respect he rightly deserves.Glad to see your posts Doc sure have missed you. Chris

NOW somewhere near the TOPIC of this thread. I've read that the YUDEN T03's aren't up to there smaller brother (8X). Why is that? Just curious since the GURU of TY is back. hehehe.

hehe, greensman, reason for this was probably illustrated by our friend JoeRyan awhile back, and he is 100% correct in that since the TY YUDEN000T03s were late to market, very few drives by the various manufacturers have fully compatible firmware tables to support said media. while it IS possible to burn the 16x DVD+R TYs properly, the compatibility factor is still not as high as i would like them to be.
secondly, i don't have any of the NEWER drives that all you guys/gals have been buying up recently, i'm still using my OLD Benq's and Pioneer drives at this point, so i don't have any firsthand experience in examining the firmware for the newer Liteons, Pioneers, Necs, Plextors, etc. :)
i've always personally favored the 8x rated media, for both it's high quality and outstanding compatibility for MY drives i use. i'm not one to put down the newer 16x rated media as i feel it's just a natural progression of technology, getting faster and faster as time goes on...who is to say that the newer 16x and 18x+ speed drives nowadays won't be able to adapt in the future and produce burns equal to that of the burns on 8x rated media by older drives? it's just a matter of time as technology progresses forward.
those of you that are fortunate enough to have the "latest and greatest" of optical drives are simply going thru a "teething" stage right now in terms of compatible media/firmware, give it some time and your burns will become increasingly "better" as updates are released. :)
i have found that the QUALITY/COMPATIBILITY of the YUDEN000T03s are very good (at least based on the scans that you all have become accustomed to, using my limited older optical drives) it's def. a YMMV (your mileage may vary) depending on which drives you are using currently and the firwmare revision associated with said drive.
as with most things, people will PREFER one rated speed of media over others, based on their own past experiences with different combinations of optical drives + media. to be honest with everyone, when it comes to DVD-R format, i personally PREFER the TYG01s (4x DVD-R Taiyo Yudens)...they have been exceptional to this day. in the DVD+R format, i've mentioned before i PREFER the 8x DVD+R YUDEN000T02s, because they work/worked the best FOR ME and my setup. the Verbatim MCC003s (8x DVD+R i've been burning lately have come out pretty decent too) :) i went through a 50 pack of Verbatim MCC004s (16x DVD+R) last month and while good, they're not my favorite 16x rated speed media at this time.
which brings me to my conclusion, i guess i don't have a "preferred" 16x media right now, IF i had to choose, i would go with TYs YUDEN000T03s, but since i don't have to choose...i'm just throwing it out there as "food for thought" LOL
i'm not a big "dvd-r" person, but that's just me, while i can say i have used thousands of them in all diff. MIDs and countries of origin, since i do have a choice, i use DVD+R for MY backups as i see fit.

NOT that I don't trust JoeRyan, I want to here it from you in open forum so we can all hear the skinny. lol. Thanks for your 'take' on this and as usual you explained it where I understand it. hehehe.
As far as new drives. ROFL. Some of us have gone off the deep end and picked up the newest and "best" the companies have to offer right now.
cincyrob, UnJust2u, bigwill68, greensman (me), and a couple of others have purchased the Lite-On LH-18A1P and it seems to be operating fairly well. (cept for cincyrob, his don't like him....lol) I think with setting SmartBurn up to learn the media he and others might find better success with some difficult media right now.
I have the new Pioneer 112D (flashed to 112L w/ buffalo 8.06 f/w) and she writes/burns like a dream. I still have the BENQ DW-1650 but it does no better than the other 2 mentioned. I still use quality media most of the time but have purchased some other stuff for give-aways or kiddie media since I have no control of the media usage. Damage control is what I'm thinking. hehehe.
Yeh I still get incredible results from YUDEN T02's and TYG02's, with a TYG01 thrown in the mix every once in a while. (yeh I still got some TYG01's and no you can't have any......they're my precious....lol)
Thanks again for your expertise and time. You da best. ;-)

i know my lite-on SHW-160P6S LOVES THE 8X+R TY's. now this new 18x drive i cant get it to take to them yet, but im not throwing in the towel on it. ive gotten it to burn 4 of them so far thats twice as many as the other 2 drive did combined.
