I actually found couple place have benq 1640 available i wasnt sure if this is the right one.

Um, did you consider looking at the fact that everyone of the places you listed said "NO" next to available stock? They don't have them in stock, and if they are no longer making it, they probably won't have it in stock. Also I saw on several other forums that exact same problem that dolphin 2 said. Some places were subsituting the DQ60. I would either wait and get the DW-1650 or just get the DW-1655. The 1655 is less than $60 shipped. My understanding is the 1650 is the same as the 1655 except the 1650 doesn't have the lightscribe feature, but don't quote me on that?

I'll double what Doc said about the burning at 8x. I burnt two of the Sony DVD+R 8x TY's last week and got 99% Nero CD/DVD scores. It's the only 8x media I have that prefers 8x over 4x.

I refuse to burn over 4x for PS2 games, but I've been experimenting at 8x with movies. I've gotten mixed results so far. I've only burned to the MIT Sony's at 8x, and those aren't really aren't high grade media. Every other 8x burn I get a nasty max spike 0f 20+ PIF's, which I consider unacceptable (I get 5 or less Max PIF's when burning to TYG02 at 4x). I'm assuming that'll change once I start burning at 8x to TY's. I'm burning the MIT Sony's at 8x to experiment and get rid of them quicker. They've been really good for playback so far, no skips whatsoever. I posted my first burn to TY DVD+R's, and it had a max PIF of 12 PIF's, which I consider a little high (though I did burn to the edge of the disc). Hopefully I'm just being paranoid. The branded Sony MIJ TY DVD+R's are identical to the TY DVD+R's you get online, correct? Is there any difference in the dye or manufacturing process? Thanks for the input. Cheers!

@Tokijin

Holly cow!! That sure is nasty indeed, LOL.

To be honest, none of my backups (burning at 4X - 8X) using genuine YUDEN000T02 or Hitachi Maxell (MIJ) would never go beyond 3 PIF when scanning with Nero CD-DVD Speed. I guess my drive is pretty lucky and it digs those MIJ b@stards, LOL.

In addendum to PS2 backups, whatever you decided to do, don't use the new MCC004 (16X DVD+R Verbatim Advanced Azo) for any of your PS2 backups. For movies backups, it worked beautifully as usual. However, I've done 5 backups with the new MCC004 for PS2 backups, even "book typing" them into DVD-ROM and burning at 4X and 8X, but only 2 worked so far, 1 played with some glitches, the other 2 just kept loading and loading and loading forever. It's not a coster because I've checked with Nero CD-DVD Speed and I've verified/burned with both Nero Burning Rom and DVD Decrypter and both burned successfully. That being said, I strongly believe that the MID or dye is way too new for the PS2 laser to handle. I know I have the latest firmware for my drive, so that's not the issue here.

The reason I said that is because none of the YUDEN000T02 or Hitachi "High Grade" Maxell is having any symptoms/issues loading/playing at all, meaning that all of my PS2 backups still play/load flawlessly without any glitches.

Hey what's up Alky, I notice you haven't been around the PS2 section as much. Have the endless BS noob questions finally done you in? I refuse to hand the PS2 section over to them, at least not yet. I'm sure I won't have any issues burning at 8x on the MIJ Sony TY DVD+R's. I only plan to do so for movies, not games. I've heard similar things about 16x Verb's for the PS2. It's best to stick with quality 4x or 8x media with the PS2. Anyway, don't want to steal Doc's thunder, this is his thread afterall. Cheers!

Nah... Doc is cool. Afterall, he's our buddy, the one and only Doc TY. So I'm pretty sure he's cool with us.

Yeah, those MCC004 (16X DVD+R Verbs) are definitely something new because my PS2 laser (US version 9) is having a super super super tough time reading/playing them, even if "book typing" them into DVD-ROM is a "no go". And yes, it's best to stick with 8X Taiyo Yuden (MIJ) and Hitachi Maxell (MIJ) for now.

I'm so tired of those idiots (newbies) at the PS2 forum asking the same old questions over and over again. Therefore, I hardly go over there now-a-days. I did checked my "rebuilding thread" everyday to see if newbies or someone had/posted a question for me though. However, you seem to handle it pretty well.

Thanks for the info aabbccdd. Yeah I know what ya mean Alky. It's rough nowadays. If I didn't have so many friends here, I wouldn't bother. I just go to my happy place and envision a Super Saiyan 3 Kamehameha when things get hectic. Do I need a mod to play PS2 games? Is CMC Mag good? This media works for all my other games, I know it's not the problem. Don't tell me to search. I'm 14, your stupid. Happy Place...

Kamehamehaaaaa!!!

LOL... very true indeed.

Talking about "kamehameha..." my boys (7 & 11 yrs old) loves all of them DBZ games man. They would kick my @ss within 30 seconds, hahas. They even kicked my @ss on Narutimett Hero 3 under 20 seconds man.

Alright Alkohol, the Doc with a buzz, this thread is turning into an intervention. Hello my name is Tokijin and I have a problem. I'm addicted to AD. No matter how many noob questions I answer, 12 year olds insult me, and idiots who get banned just keep coming back (IP ban anyone?), I keep coming back. I guess it's better then being addicted to crank. Anyway good restraint Doc, you didn't start telling us how much you loved us or any wild stories. Cheers!

as to the telling everyone how much i loved you guys, this thread isn't brokeback mountain my friend, LOL...no gay cowboys in these neck of the woods~ :) noted: i don't have anything against people that prefer to have same gender relations, but i am VERY much heterosexual, as i believe my wife is PROOF of that FACT~ :)

Oh C'mon Doc, inbred sodomites have feelings too.

I tried Cross Flashing my burner with BenQ 1640 Firmware, it wouldn't even let me. It simply said this drive isn't allowed to be updated. I guess that's karmic forces saving me from myself. It wasn't a huge risk anyway. I got my burner at Wal-Mart, I think we're all familiar with their return policy. Oh well, no PI/PO scanning for me. :( No biggie. Cheers!

seems to be a thorn in your side huh? i have never owned that particular Sony you have, so, i don't know the steps required to successfully cross-flash into the benq 1640, wish i did, then i could show you how, but i don't :(

i guess just be content with the fact that it's a very good burning drive, as to the test scans/scores, that's just a small drop in a very big pond in terms of dvds/media~ :) i really don't put ALL that much weight on Nero scans/dvdinfopro, while they DO account for something, depending on the drive you use to scan your backups, they COULD or COULD NOT be very accurate (ie. Pioneer drives, percentage wise, are about as accurate as getting struck by lightning, TWICE...) :)

still waiting on that new Benq dw-1650 to be released here in the U.S....what's taking them so long? LOL...urs truly is getting impatient now, need a new toy to test the crap out of with high quality media...

Yeah if I really need to have PI/PO scanning, I should just pick up the BenQ DW-1650. I'm quite sure the official firmware will support PI/PO scanning booktyping/bitsetting. Lemme know when you hear something about it. I'll wait til it's a little more readily available. In the mean time, I'll enjoy using my booktyping/bitsetting to booktype my TY DVD+R's to DVD-ROM. Maybe I'll find some threads with people who have Pioneer Drives and lord my booktyping/bitsetting over them lol. Cheers!

I'm sure. I've only been burning for 5 months, and only been good at it for a couple. We're all eager to here about the specs of that BenQ DW 1650. I'm sure it'll be a quality drive. I dunno, I think I'd have to buy a BenQ over a Litey. Simple, feature packed, and reliable, those qualities seem to embody what BenQ is all about. Eh I'm sure Litey's are real good too. I'd probably get a burner from one of those two companies, when I get another one. Cheers!

I thinks it's called Buffalo isn't it? I think I've seen it somewhere, possibly at cdfreaks.com while I was lurking/reading and someone mentioned that it (hacked firmware) does worked "book typing" pretty good.

hehe, yeah, it's the Japanese "Buffalo" firmware, obviously my FAILED attempt at a joke went down in flames~ LOL

Buffalo is the brand name of Pioneer over in Japan, so, they "brand" all their pioneer drives as "Buffalo" hehehe...and over in Europe, i believe it's "Medion" :) they are all PIONEERS as we know them over here in the U.S.

i just tried to make an inference to "buffalo" in comparison to bison/yak/hairy cows as we know those animals as such over here in the States~ LOL...guess my jokes are pretty lame HAHAHAHAHA, only i get them...

I just burned MLB 2006: The Show to Yuden000 and it plays perfectly. Not that I expected differently, but I'm still kinda in the honeymoon phase with the TY DVD+R's booktyped to DVD-ROM. Max spike of 9 PIE's burning right to the edge of the disc, not too bad. DVD+R's are fun lol. Cheers!
