Yes as far as i know that method only works for GOW. It might work for other games but as far as i know there are no Dual Layer games that use .PAK files and have the same structure as God of War. The tutorial site is now online again, www.backuptools.co.uk. The easiest tutorial to use is V3.

Ok, I feel like an idiot, I have been attempting to backup my copy of God Of War for 8 days now. I am using the V3 tutorial by Sonix. I get as far as deleting the .PSW files in the "extracted" folder. However, when I attempt to use PSSdown.exe to compress the video files it says that the file or it's component is not registered or some crap? I'm confused, I have been banging my head over this for days, and I have also searched and searched and searched for an answer to this and I find nothing. If it's in this thread and already been answered I apologize as I missed the fix and didn't see it!? What do I do!!! Someone help me please!!
Thanks,
CyanideX

Hmmmm... Does it say this when you open the program, or when you try to start the compression process?

Did you copy Activeskin.ocx to the system32 folder or wherever it says in the readme?

What's up ya'll
I'm trying to back-up GOW with Apache3 preview (thanks DedlyWave). I extracted the ISO but didn't get the PART2.PAK. So I went to backuptools to download Mung-O-Matic. Tried to extract but got the following message: Error Opening PART2.PAK. I'm stuck at this point. Any ideas?

ok. I noticed 3 plug-ins that come with the Mung o Matic download package. I know I'm supposed to dump in in a system folder or something but not sure.
Ok I copied the gow.dil file in the system and the system32 folder and tried to extract out the Part2.Pak file but I still got the error extracting message. I'm fresh out of ideas now.

Hey guys, to extract the second pak file (part2.pak) you open the iso with apache, extract everything and then right click on the name of the iso in the left hand fram, and select the second layer that is there. It will switch to it and the frame with all the files in it will change to the one with the part2.pak file. Just extract that and away you go. As for the difference in iso size, dont worry about it. My sizes were completely different because i used the PAL version. As long as you follow the process and end up with an iso less than the size of a DVD-5 (Mine is about 3.97Gb) you'll be ok. When you use the PSS Downsampler set all the movies to 75% and it should still fit i think. As for the loading issue, i had a problem were the game froze at the bit were he says the "gods of olympus have... blah blah" on the cliff as you start a new game. The whole thing just stopped and the picture got warped. I put it on a good disc and it made no difference, so i had to rebuild it again. You'll probably have to do that to.

Dedlywave and Rave thanks for all the help. Imma try and rip it tonight or 2morrow. Isn't it funny that this dual layer game is made by Sony? Appears Sony doesn't like people backing up there games.

Patience people. Follow the tutorials at this website and you will be ok. I sure felt that this entire process was so overwhelming, butit wasnt. Just time consuming. Laters everybody. Good luck.

I'm curious, what does rebuilding actually strip it of? Just the bonus movies? What are the bonus movies? I have the ISO here, it's just, I could either burn it to a DVD-9 or DVD-5.

Well there are duplicates of certain game files on each layer so that once the PS2 is accessing information from one layer, it doesnt have to keep switching back and forth to get all the info, e.g. in the later levels the level data will most likely be on the second layer, but if the model of kratos and all his animations and whatever were on the first, it would eventually have to switch back to it layer 1 and then back to layer 2, and you get the point. The bonus movies can then be reduced in size a bit to fit them to a DVD-5, which realy a modchipped PS2 is much more friendly with as the laser wont have to do as much work.

Thanks;

Uh oh. When I went to get that Apache 2, I noticed a file that did it automatically. I ran it, and it asked for a PAK for, but I just had the ISO, so I chose the ISO. Few seconds later, there was an error. I didn't think anything had gone wrong.
The whole ISO file is 7.46gb. Is the ISO screwed because I used that God of War tool on an ISO instead? I am planning to burn it on a DVD-9 but due to the different file size, I don't want it to screw up, considering DVD-9s cost alot.

I found out the reason. The PAL Version is only 7.46gb. I burnt it to a dual layer and it worked perfectly.

Go to www.backuptools.co.uk, register and then visit the downloads section. You have to download the Kessen III or GT3 tutorial, and it says they contain a preview of Apache 3
