I have a Sony burner and this trick worked fine! So, maybe yours will work too.
I only use Verbatim media and I live very happy without headaches :) It's up to you :)

Hi all, i'm new and i'm italian, so i don't understand english very well :(
I have some doubts:
1)I don't know if "unrar" mean add in an archive or extract from the archive....
2)I try to load the .MDS file of rogue galaxy on DVD Decrypter and change the book type, but when i select LITE-ON and Next Write option,
this happens:
"Change for: Next Write
Current settings: Unknown (FAILED!)"

What should i do?

3)I don't know which program i must use to burn the DVD DL
4)Now i have the doubt that my burner isn't DL compatible, how can i verify if it is DL compatible or not?

One more thing:
I will be very happy if mancerg will write the same guide for burn this game, with more instruction and with the support of some screenshots because i want really to play this game!!

thenk you and sorry for disturbance

First at all, we are talking about the PROPER release of 6 gb, right? Ok.

Is your PS2 mod-chipped? If you are using Swap Magic then you are wasting your time, because is well known that this release dont work with it.

It worked for me, with a slim ps2, modchip, verbatim DVD+R DL (DVD-R will not let you change the book type), 2.x burning speed...

It's OK. Failed only means that DVD Decrypter is not able to know the media status. You can continue applying the settings (I saw the same screen also)

Look the front panel of your device and look for a "R DL" sign. If you find it, then your burner is Ok. :)

Wow, all this work to burn onto +R DL?

Look, I don't want to insult anyone's intelligence, but there are certain things you ought to familiarize yourself with BEFORE trying something tricky like burning PS2 games onto dual-layer discs.

And I feel OBLIGED to point out that once you've wasted 4 or 5 dual layer discs... at $5 each... on a $40 game... Are you seeing where I'm going with this? If you've got a MOD chip, you can run imports...

Could anyone upload a save game from the start of Chapter 8.
I managed to follow this thread, created an iso that runs the second layer fine (I use the save point from the gamefaqs from near the end of the game)
What I can't get to work is the bit from the end of chapter 7 to chapter 8 (where I got up to and where the other 2 gamefaqs saves are)
What happens at that point (where the movie comes up) the loading circle appears and if I pause and chose skip it crashes. Any suggestions.
I will try again in the meantime, maybe making an intermediary disk that dummies chapters 10-13 but not 7.
Thanks svtstang, hursty and gnie for all your help.

I've avoided getting involved thus far, because I have been out of this scene for a while. However, you're running up against some fairly classic problems here.

1. The game itself is probably only around 5GB of data. This really doesn't look like a "dual layer to stymie pirates" situation. What happened is that it wouldn't all fit on a DVD-5, so they put it on a DVD-9. The reason you have a lot of duplicate data is, of course, that all the basic stuff - character images, animations, music, voices - is going to be the same no matter what level you're on. But you already knew that. :) Just pointing out that if we knew how to resample the movies and/or WAVS we could probably fit this all on one layer...

2. This is a Level5 game. That means you can revisit practically any point in the game from any other point in the game. You're going to discover that there are probably a dozen places in the code itself where this takes place, and they're probably all a little different. In Dark Cloud 2 there were no less than 3 different ways that I'm remembering off the top of my head to get from one level to another, and they all had different interfaces and jumped in different ways. This alone is probably half the reason why your attempts to get teleporting working are being stymied.

3. There's no guarantee that anything at any point in the game didn't get shuffled back to Layer0. THIS is a huge problem. Let's say that later in the game you revisit an old area a lot. That's not unusual. But they might have chosen to put the NEW data onto Layer0 so that the laser didn't have to work hard to get the OLD data for the old area. Or maybe they put the optional areas back on layer0. Remember, they probably freed up a LOT of space on Layer0 by moving half the levels off.

I guess my point here is that without some more advanced resources with which to edit the contents of this disc, you're going to hit a wall here. I think you already have. The dedicated cracking/ripping groups will most likely have at this game soon if they haven't already started to. More than likely some of the code will need to be re-pointed to make it all work. :(

I have a samsung burner too and when selecting liteon it says failed, with the bitsetting tab grayed out and not selectable. How did you manage to apply bitsetting like that?

Hey, can someone tell me if the proper full release of Rogue Galaxy works when burned with a DVD+R Dual layer with the Swap Magic method?

Thanks!

@Mancerg... If you could help me it would be much appreciated. I have a Benq DW 1655 Burner that does support DVD+R DLs. The steps i've taken so far are as follows:

1) Used latest WinRAR to unrar the iso. (6.48gigs)
2) Applied toxic patch
3) I inserted my Verbatim DVD+R DL into my drive and opened decrypter. Now I start to run into issues... I clicked on the tools tab, scrolled down to drive > "change book type". I click on the "Lite - On" tab change the setting to "Next write" and this is what I get:

Change For: Next Write
Current Setting: Unknown(Failed!)

Now the problem, "New Setting" is completely blanked out, I can't make changes or select a new setting which I assume is where you change it to DVD-R.

Under the "Benq" tab under "Change book type" I can select "Drive (DVD+R DL Media)". After selecting that it states that the current setting is "Dvd-Rom" and I can select Dvd-Rom, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD+R DL from the "new setting" row. The problem is by default under the "booktype" tab on the "front page" of DVD Decrypter it reads DVD+R DL and even after I try to change the booktype in the BenQ tab it still reads under "Booktype", "DVD+R DL".

Im extremely puzzled and I really don't know what I should do. I don't know whats wrong with the "Lite-On" tab or if I should just use the "BenQ" tab which is after all the brand of my native burner. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Nope, many people tried... but there is no way this release works for Swap Magic. Sorry dude.

Look at this image:

If you look at the Device name, you will note that i have a Sony Burner, not a LITE-ON burner. Ok, for this test i've played a little trick: the dvd tray is empty and even with, the New setting combo is displayed and, as you can see, there is a DVD-ROM option.

Dont forget to click on the Change button in order to apply this settings. Let me know if this works for you.

Good luck!

I think you must have misunderstood me or perhaps I wasn't clear enough. I can get to the "Lite-On" tab, I can even change it to "Next write" but after I change it to the option "Next Write" , "Current Settings" = Unknown(Failed!) and "New Setting" is completely blanked out as in I can't change any settings under the row:: "New Setting". Unfortunately that is exactly what your picture is illustrating for me to do. So hopefully now you can see my dilemma.

Granted, it seems that you have nothing in your DVD drive in that picture whereas I did have a Verbatim DVD+R DL in my drive when I was unable to pick any options under the "new setting" heading under "lite-on". I don't know if that has anything to do with it, im just trying to list as much information as I can to make it easier for you to help me.

Again, much appreciated.

Ok. Plan B :)
Try downloading this app: DVD Bitsetter . It's very simple and it might work for you.

Good luck.

Hello Guys.

I want to burn the full 6GB of the game onto a verbatim DVD-R DL (no ripping) but I have two questions first if any of you are kind enough to reply:

1. Is any one aware if my Pioneer DVR-111D 1.29 will be able to burn this game, I know the drive is a DL burner, but I?m not so sure about the ?bit settings/booktype(are these the same thing?)? deal.
2. Can is use the program ?ImgBurn? instead of ?Decrypter??

Thanks for any replies =).

The program crashes everytime I try to set it. I've tried with a DVD+R in and without, but it doesn't seem to have a setting for dl discs anyway?

No. No, no, and no.

You can't boot dual-layer with swap magic. It's been said a dozen times now. :(
