I have a movie in MKV format and i convert it to mp4 or m2ts with MKV2VOB, however when i play back the converted MKV file in mp4 or m2ts file on my PC the video resolution is warped. ie. it appears to be squashed up a bit compared to the original resolution of the MKV playback. stats on the resolution of the MKV file are listed here - [Resolution] ......... [ 960x544@A.R.2.35][Anamorphic?] ........ [ (YES) 1280x544 ]

let me know if i should provide anymore info, advice is greatly appreciated.

thanks
It's the resolution of the video that's the issue. Your PS3 is trying to play the 960x544 video as 1280x544, thus the stretching. Not sure how to fix it, sorry.
Thanks for the reply, however the squashed resolution results before i even transfer it to the PS3. perhaps i should use a different program?
Hi all, anyone else able to help? im sure if i had NMT and just streamed it in the MKV format it would play fine, but i really need to convert it for the PS3 and it must be able to be done?

i bought one with 16g but i cant copy big files! i bought it on purpose to transfer movies from my pc to the ps3 but i cant. its the second usb stick that i buy but both have the same problem. ican use the whole 16g with smaller files, but when i try with th bigger ones it doesnt work!!!
FAT partitions are limited to storing a single file no larger than 4GB. It is the file system that restricts this not the USB stick.

I am sorry if you purchased the stick with the premise of using it for files larger than 4GB but unfortunately there is no way to make that happen.

and if i buy an external hard drive?
would that work on my ps3?
and if yes can u explain me?

It will work only if you partition part or all of the NTFS external drive to FAT32, then you're back in the same boat... it would be just like having a really big USB stick.

Exactly, for what I know the only way to use a file bigger than 4 gb is to stream it from a pc with a NTFS hard disk or to split it.

I've noticed that the italics doesn't show properly when i try to make AVCHD out of .m2ts.
On the other hand when the container si .mkv ... it works like a charm ...

Just as Gardus suggested it is possible to have a larger than 4GB file on the PS3's HDD in m2ts format, it just needs to be streamed via a media server.

The problem is tsMuxeR takes the .srt sub file and converts what it see's to a Blu-ray sub file, which is an imaged basically overlayed on the video stream, tsMuxeR doesn't understand <> </> and [] [/] like a PC does.

Try deleting the code and just edit the text itself, highlight the words that are in italics, go to "Format"-->"Font" and choose Italic, this way there will be no code.

That's strange, tsMuxeR accepts .mpg files and the audio formats in your particular file. If you still cannot ge tit to go maybe try DGIndex, or eac3to... however eac3to only accepts (m2)ts, evo, and vob. If you can somehow convert your mpg file to one of those extensions eac3to should work.

I used eac3GUI only a couple of time ... but as far as i now this program wants to convert audios into smth (ac3)but my goal is to keep the DTS-ES.
Is there an option in eac3GUI that allows only demuxing (not converting)?
Thank you !

Later edit :
I found a way around this : i simply renamed the extension of the file from .mpg to .ts .
That was the only way tsmuxerGUI recongized it.
.m2ts extension was not.
Thanks again!

You do not need to use h264info anymore, tsMuxeR can do this. Use the "Change Level" option and change to 4.1.

If you must use h264info, you need to name the output file somthing different from the source or it will overwrite it... and thus delete it.

I'm having the same problem. If I use tsmuxer to change the profile from 5.1 video to 4.1 I have audio but no video. If I use tsmuxer on an existing 4.1 video file and just change it from mkv -> m2ts it streams like a champ with tversity. I've tried at least 3 different 1080p mkvs @ 5.1 -tsmuxed-> 4.1 with this behavior.

The weird part is when I use select to show time/bitrate I'm seeing what I *expect* the stream rate to be in the 5.1 -> 4.1 m2ts file- ie 15-30Mb...

Maybe I'll try this h264info program on my 5.1 video file and see what happens.

failure. Don't even waste time on it... it went from actually streaming data to "Unsupported Data" or some crap.

I used tsmuxer to demux the file
h264info to just change profile to 4.1 [didn't fill in any other boxes]
tsmuxer to mux the .ac3 file and 264 file back together
served up with tversity
fail

What you need to do is convert the dts audio to ac3 then repackage it with the video using tsMuxer. I steer clear of MKV2VOB all together.

1. Download eac3to and tsMuxer

2. Open TsMuxer and add the MKV file. Only check the box next to the DTS stream and go to the "demux" option.

3. Once that is done, open eac3to and add the dts file and press convert.

4. Now go back to tsmuxer and add the mkv file and the newly created ac3 file. Uncheck the DTS stream from the mkv and mux the h.264 and ac3 to .ts. Once it is finished muxing change the file extension from .ts to .mpg.

Now watch on your PS3.
basically gave up until today and then i see this darn post right after mine! ok Im trying to "open eax3to and add dts file and press convert" but i think it is a little trickier than you are saying it. could someone clarify the rpocess (like which bitrate i need for ac3 and how to convert? i have both eac3to and the gui verison)

thx!

really sorry for the double post bit i think i figured it out on my own. sadly however, i still get the same output. I convert the files and remux but the output file has NO audio and NO video, the 2 hr movie just plays in VLC for about 30 seconds long without picture or sound. the release for these types of files seems to be consistent with 720p.HDDVD.DTS.x264-ESiR.mkv releases. if have several others that do the same thing. I just want to convert these files to watch on PS3, the mkv plays fine on the pc.

I know its not something i am doing wrong, i think it has something to do with the rips. they do something different than other groups that makes it so i cant convert. ANY help at all in steering me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately some 1080p encodes that were coded to level 5.1 are not playable even though you change the level to 4.1 using tsMuxeR or h264info. The only way to fix this is to recode the movie yourself using a profile that sets the reference frames low enough that a stand-alone or PS3 understands, which was most likely the inital problem, and sets the level to 4.1 where it should be.

The 5.1 encodes were intended for playback on the PC, not for the PS3.

@ mrasstits - awesome name BTW :)

When using eac3toGUI and eac3to you first need to specify the path of eac3to in the GUI's settings or else the GUI has no idea what's going on.

If you want to convert DTS --> AC3 do the following;

1. Load your DTS file
2. Choose AC3 as the output, 640kb/s as the bit rate.
3. Set the "Force Filter" to Nero - Only if you have Nero's BD/HDDVD plugin installed. If not use Libav
4. Convert.

Also, get rid of that garbage VLC player. Use Media Player Home Cinema and Haali Media Splitter.

Hi guys, I'm a Recent PS3 user and I'm reading this threads for several days and I still have doubts regarding the use of Tsmuxer:

I want to put several episodes in a single bluray mux and i've tried several ways and none of them worked at 100%.

At first attempt I tried to select the mkv files and append each one to the first - result: buffer error

After i tried to add several mkv files and I get only "one" big file but only shows one episode.

After reading one other thread, I muxed to m2ts every mkv file first and then appended each episode to the first and it worked.

So, I tried to put the subtitles in the same way and the final result is video ok, sound ok for every episode but only the first one has subtitles. Do you, guys, know how to overcome this issue?

Thanks,

You need to adjust the timestamps for all of the episodes after the first one. Since you now have one large file with several episodes, episode 2 may start at ~30min instead of 0min... so the subtitles timestamps are not adjusted when appended.

Hi,again...
I have a little sync problem :
-added bars with meGUI
-muxed the video , DTS&ac3 audio, subs into a .mkv container with mkvmergeGUI
-the result is brilliant
-yet , after i make the AVCHD files with tsmuxerGUI the audio is a couple of split seconds out of sync (very annoying)
Is there a vay to correct this ?!
Maybe some option i didn't check in tsmuxerGUI?
Why after remuxing the files alltogheter the video in .mkv container is 23.976 as i entered into mkvmerge , and when i drag the .mkv in tsmuxer it shows 24 fps (not 24000/1001,or even better 23.976) ?!

Semper_Fi, there's no difference between 23.976 and 24000/1001.

...well, there is, but contrary to what you believe, 24000/1001 is actually much more accurate than 23.976.

That aside, you can manually change the video framerate. Click on your video stream, then in the tabs, there should be something like "stream-specific options" or something (or I might be confusing this with MKVMerge). One of the options should be the framerate of your video. You can just click that and change it to 24000/1001.

That SHOULD correct your audio issue.

Of course, that's if the audio starts out in sync, then gradually gets more and more out of sync as the movie goes along.

If the audio's off by a constant amount throughout the entire movie, then you can click on your audio stream and delay it by a few milliseconds... or a lot of milliseconds...

Anyway, I hope I'm right and that that helps your problem.
