do you know of any brand(sony maxell etc) that are makeing the 16x +r coded TY's?
i have about 150now of the sony 8x+rs would like to find some 16x with out buying on line.dont like the waiting period there thats all..lol
so far, i have NOT seem them under any brand LOCALLY FOR ME here in LA, CA~ :) as to other parts of the country, i really wouldn't know as i haven't heard any DEFINITIVE reports from people i can TRUST as of yet~ there will always be "hearsay" as i've already heard from some people "sony with the octagonal spacer in the 16x DVD+R MIJ spindles = YUDEN000T03" BUT i have NOT heard it from a "reliable source"...people here on AD will say anything to try to get some attention or gain some credibility, until i see a dvd identifier SCAN/clipboard post of the actual MID coding of YUDEN000T03, i would suggest to you that you NOT believe what you read on here (unless they are willing to show you substantiated PROOF via a MID scan/identifier program...i am one of the very few people that actually HAVE AND USE the 16x DVD+R TYs (YUDEN000T03) right now here in the U.S. (Europe has had them for some time now, we are behind here in terms of TY offerings) :) i have exactly 160 YUDEN000T03s at this point (total about 25 burned and 135 remaining), i got these directly from Taiyo Yuden thru my company, i did NOT opt to buy in the larger quantities that i usually do because of a price difference that TY was NOT willing to offer me, so, since they would not budge on the pricing unless i ordered 5,000 pieces, i bought 50 from them at $0.30/each and they gave me 100 to keep me as a corporate client (to stay on my good side) hehe
if you or any "regulars" of my thread DO FIND THE YUDEN000T03s locally for yourselves, please do me the favor of reporting and posting it here so others can benefit from YOUR finds :) thank you.

Quote: Hey docTY.. I just found this thread, and as a TY disty in Australia, its a very useful thread, helps answer a lot of questions I get, and will backup and confirm alot of the answers I give..
sounds good to me, let me know via PM if you have any further questions about Taiyo Yuden, i happen to work VERY CLOSELY with Taiyo Yuden here in North America but i do not know firsthand what you guys in Australia have available to you (general public), i would assume you carry everything from the 8x DVD-R TYG02, 16x DVD-R TYG03s and their counterparts in the DVD+R format? am i correct? you guys can get the YUDEN000T02/YUDEN000T03s down under as well (i think) :)
the 4x DVD-R TYG01s are VERY RARE all throughout the world as they stopped production last year, the remaining stock of 4x TYG01s are in the hands/warehouses of just a few online retailers/people (me included LOL) right now~ :)
@all
interesting turn of topics...dry country/county now? hehehe, glad i stock up on alcohol at home and make myself drinks when i feel the need to, i feel sorry for those that live in counties that don't allow alcohol sales/consumption...talk about prohibition all over again~ LOL
funny how people started a "how many dvds blanks do you have?" thread, i didn't even bother posting as my company's 2,000 piece/month minimum Taiyo Yuden would make most people weep~ :) and to "rub it in" i get genuine TYG02/TYG03s for $0.20 each DIRECT and the YUDEN000T02s for $0.25/each...it's just the 16x DVD+R YUDEN000T03s that i haven't been able to get for under $0.40/each at this point in time, just because they are not as plentiful to the market, sheesh...considering how many customers i've brought to them, you would think a "thank you" would be in order...
have a good one boys + girls (binkie) :)

Growing Up in Former City of New Orleans ! ( Chocolate City ) According to iT's Once and Future Mayor ! The Alcohol Thing was never a Big issue as it was practically a 24/7 town and during Mardi Gras Forget about it ! And Moving to the ouskirts of east nowhere in Central Louisiana You can Buy alcohol But they Won't serve you any after 2Am ! And I assume that it goes for Package liquor as well! I think they don't sell liquor on sundays But I 'm not sure about that! 2am is last call You can order all the drinks you want before that and continue drinking but will not & can't serve you any after 2am! It's not raelly a big issue for me mainly drink socially & around the holidays ! & with theese curvey counrty roads You deffinitely need a designated driver ! My biggest Culture shock was the food - Try to get a decent Po Boy sandwich on real French Bread here for eg: Or well seasoned Food ! ( Not everything cajun or creole has Cayenne in it!) Now anything Beef - Burgers or sTEAK They have a handle on that! You can get a Double Meat Bacon Burger with Cheese here that 'll give you angina from anticipation! Here and there you can get really good food it's not all bad ! But Other than Family Food is the only thing I miss about New Orleans ! well maybe the French Quarter durning Mardi Gras ! But I'm a Happy Country Gentleman now ! & would never move back !been here since 97 and like the Open spaces , quiet ! , privacy , Nicer friendly people ! ect... Good morning Doc,
I purchased 100 T03 16x DVD+R TY's from Rima.com recently @.48 each. DVD Identifier confirms they are real T03 TY media.
They shipped them promptly from the City Of Industry, in California, for those of you who are worried about getting your hands on them in a hurry.
Thanks for all the help you provide, I wish I could contribute more!

Hi Doc!
First i would like to say that your official thread is really helpful and answers to a lot of questions. Thanks a lot!!!Really helpful and is an awesome guide for those going to purchase the real Yuden DVDs.These informations have really helped me in chosing the right media type and the brand and so i have chosed to buy Verbatim(the japan made ones,as they are supposed to be Taiyo Yuden if they are manufactured there i guess).
Well as i just said,i just purchased a pack of 50 Verbatim DVD+R 8x(spindle) and on the packing it's written "made in japan".
I have even ran a check using DVD identifier and it says Manufacturer name: taiyo Yuden Co.Ltd, Manufacturer ID:YUDEN000 and Media Type ID:T02.
I checked on the inner hub and it says TG001162.
Because of all these fake branded DVDs on sales almost everywhere,i'm a bit worried about my recent purchase,so i would like to ask you Doc if you can determine, based on the informations i have given here,if these are genuine Taiyo Yuden's DVDs i got here or are they fake ones and i've been got???
If these are real ones, sure tomorrow i'm going to rush to that store and buy 3 more packs!!!
But before that i'm going to wait for your reply.
Thanks.

@husker13
good afternoon to you my friend~ :) yeah, earlier in my thread, at least for NOW here in the U.S., i mentioned that rima.com is THE ONLY online retailer that supplies the YUDEN000T03s at this point~ :) while expensive, as you mentioned, $0.48/each, that is why i didn't get them right away from there and was hoping to get a better price directly from TY :) unfortunately, TY didn't give me a price "worthy" of me buying 5,000 pieces from them, i like a good bargain as much as the next guy/gal out there~ :) i think as time progresses and they come down in price, i will "hit up" TY again and see if i can get a better price for buying in bulk, until then, i still got plenty of 8x DVD+R YUDEN000T02s to use before i feel i am "running low on stock" :)
good to see you here, as ddp would say, teach and learn; your contributions are worthwhile in MY EYES, if i have helped you in the past, all i ask is that you SHARE ACCURATE information to others that may need it...i'm just annoyed lately by the sheer amount of INACCURATE info. people have been reporting regarding media, nobody in particular (definitely NOT anyone in this thread) but there is quite a bit of BS going on in other parts of the media forum that to the unsuspecting person, you may or may not be able to discern the truth from the lies~ :) what really gets under my skin is those that have an "opinion" on media when they have NO EXPERIENCE with said media...
@TY4ever
NICE NAME!! hehehe, i like it~ :) as my buddy teflonmyk already mentioned, based on ur info, you got the GENUINE DEAL RIGHT THERE~ :) i am assuming you are in Europe (UK in particular) as they have had the Taiyo Yuden made Verbatims for quite some time now available from SVP (that's the only online retailer i am familiar with)...made in japan Verbatims are NOT available here in the U.S. i don't know about Australia, but will find out when mike_dean responds later :)
if you get them at a good price TY4ever, i would definitely pick up some more next time you are out and about~ :) welcome to AD and feel free to come back here ANYTIME if you have any questions about TYs, or ya just want to share your success stories/issues with TYs; either myself or one of the knowledgeable members here will help ya answer some questions you may have. :)

hiya binkie7,
i no longer have any more of the silver inkjet printables, yes, i KNOW they are expensive but they sure look great thought right? the whole "holographic" look? hehehe
i have very few inkjet printables left, it's been so long since i've used my Epson to print directly to disc that i probably have to readjust the settings :) as nice as the silver inkjets are, they obviously come at a premium, they're much more "rare" you could say than the white full hub inkjet printables or the silver thermals (silver shiny are the cheapest TYs offer)...but i think they are very nice discs :)
i haven't been keeping up on the pricing of the printables lately, but i know they are still quite steep.

Hopefully one day they will have the full face ones! They do have the 'neat' look :)
I've already went thru an Epson R320 - had the 2 year warranty so I recently obtained a R340 for free since they couldn't fix it. I do quite a few printable DVD's :) All that printer is used for!

Hello kivory666 and hello binkie7
Just thought that I'd 'check in' . . .

Got a killer deal from a friend who works at Office Depot. 1000 Hp LightScribe CDs and 500 Verbatim LightScribe CDs that were on clearance. Paid $250 for the lot! Weird thing though . . the Hp discs are made by Verbatim while the Verbatim discs are CMags . . go figure
Purchased two more DW1655 to write labels with and I'm making cat movies

Nice to see ya posting!
Quote: the Hp discs are made by Verbatim while the Verbatim discs are CMags
hmmm maybe I should get the HP ones - ever time I buy the Verbatim cd's I get CMag too. Not too bad - did 20 burns in a row w/ only 2 failures so far.
No cat movies here:) - just do a lot of cd's for my friends band.
Seems my 'pretty color' Fuji's are now longer around.

I think a sure sign of a dry county is where people are drunk out of their face, in the comfort of their homes with their families and where the police are constantly busy with domestic despute called due to the drinking at home :-
In Utah there are dry counties. I do remember on Norman Mailer's classic book about the first man in the U.S. to get the death penalty since it was allowed by the Supreme Court, Garry Gilmore. It was his choice.
From what I recall, there was "bars", but you came with you own alcohol and if you bought any, itwas never poured by the bartender. I think you couold purchase those airline bottles of alcohol and pour it yourself.
Dry or not dry, people will get alcohol legal and illegal drugs.
The laws regarding alcohol are so strange and so varied. When I grew up in N.Y.C., beer could be purchased in grocery stores, but NOT in liquor stores. Wine and hard liquor could only be purchased in liquor stores. Liquor stores had to be closed on Sunday, but grovery stores could sell their beer on Sundays, but only after about 3pm on Sunday.
I did some computer work for a friend who owns a pool hall in Colorado. They have a law where licenses to sell alcohol can only be issued to one person. So what owners did would have relatives be on the liquor licenses.
Then the weird thing was that he could not shop competively for alcohol prices. There were just a few licensed alcohol wholesalers and he could only buy from one of them. The cost of beer, wine, hard liquor for retail shoppers, in these large liquor stores was less than he could purchase wholesale.
So many old laws on the books with regards to alcohol.
What I wish their were, were a lot more detox and rehab facilities so that would be available for those who fall into abusive and addictives patterns with alcohol and drugs. In the U.S., with all of the millions spent on the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency), there is not one single bed or any facility paid for by the U.S. federal government to aide those who want to stop negative patterns of alcohol or drug abuse/addiction, not one single bed.

binkie7,
HP media are not made by Verbatim but by CMC. Just check out the CMC page http://www.cmcdisc.com/index.htm and you can see the proud announcement of HP's exclusive contract with HP.
It appears that CMC make media and distribute it, with another companies brand label, as per the instructions given to them. What I mean is that the quality/price of the media made by CMC will is directed to them by their contract.
In general, since CMC not has a increased prescence in Mainland China and partnership with Ritek in this.
Apparently all media makers seem to have lost money, especially with making CD and CD-R media.
I will bet that people getting their music, electronically rather than through media would be the reason.
I personally do not give a hoot about blue-ray or whatever kind of media con is being developed.
I think more and more, it is wise to STAY away from media and use hard drives as a solution for storing and playing multimedia and data storage.
In this way, there would be less control by the wild and crazy bandits and spyware kings of the RIAA and MPAA. Hard drives are getting less and less expensive. Mini hard drives, like the 4gb drive in the new Cowon iAUDIO X6 are mopre reliable, smaller than ever.
I think staying away from Apple Ipoops, Sony and big name multimedia hardware companies is a good idea for the future. Now, it is looking more and more like that with media as well. Heck, as we saw from the Sony/BMG scandle, it can be dangerous to purchase music and movies off the shelf because destructive spyware might be unknowlingly loaded on your PCs.

Hi Doc and to all of ya!
i'm considering to buy the plextor Dvd writer PX-760A.Do you have any pros or cons about this DVD writer.Actually i'm using the pioneer 111 EXL,the LG 4163B and the 4167B.
By the way, when you said that you think that i'm from U.K,in fact i come from Mauritius but i'm actually in Shanghai and it's here while looking left and right that i've been able to fall on these Verbatims made by Taiyo Yuden(those i refered earlier).Me too i was a bit surprised about that find as i know that these are extremely difficult or almost impossible to be found here(got them in a shopping mall specialized in pc and parts). But that's what i like in Shanghai, while looking everywhere you can find some gems among the craps that overflow the market here.
And after having got your reply about the genuineness of my verbs,i've quickly went there this morning and took all the three remaining packs on the shelves. That's how i have found some Plextor DVD writers there too and there were some different models there and they told me the latest one is the PX-760A.But one thing is that they are made in Taiwan and not in japan. Is this normal that they are being made in Taiwan and not in Japan as i would prefer it's a Japan one.But the only thing that i'm a bit ok is that it's not made in China,in everything that i buy i try to stay away from those made in China except if i don't have any choice.
As you are the most experienced about DVD burning Doc(even others),can you please give me your best advice about what i should do for this made in Taiwan Plextor PX-760A.Should i jump on it or not.By the way i forgot to mention the price,it's around USD107.
Thanks.
Vincent.

TY4ever, the PX-760A is the brand new 18x burner from Plextor iam sure its a good burner, i know a few people thats used them BUT the PX-716A is still the best burner Plextor has and rated the best burner on the market for several years in a row. the buffer rate on the PX-716A is better 8mb compared the the PX-760A at 2mb ,so i would def choice the PX-716A over the PX-760A anyday i own two PX-716As

Hey aabbccdd!
thanks a lot for your advice on the Plexs.
But how long you've been using your a PX-716As because i've read some reviews about these babies and some users said theirs went dead only after the fist year. And as you know here we get only one year's guarantee for any DVD burner.
What about yours?Have you experienced any problem while using them?
I realy don'k know what to do here,go for the PX-716A or for the PX-760A.But you're right when you said that the PX-760A is quite a new model and we don't have enough reviews about it.But about the PX-716A i'm a bit afraid it goes wrong as some have experienced.
Really need some help here.
Thanks.
Vincent.

no fredburn its does both formats DVD-R and DVD+R
TY4ever, i've had NO problems with mine ,many here use the Plextor PX-716As, had mine about 6 months and have probably about 2000 burns total on them, so far so good. if its a dollar issue you might just consider the BenQ DW-1655 it runs about 49 bucks compared the the PX-716A which is 110.00 dollars online and 130.00 at a retail store. the PX-716A has a proven track record where as the PX-760A doesn't at this point.i really belive you get what you pay for in the end !! so its your choice

Hi everybody!
Just want to know something that may be very useful to me as well to other newbies.
It's about Taiyo Yuden's DVD media, either the brand is Taiyo Yuden itself or other brands made by Taiyo, sony and verbatim for example.
If i'm right, the media ID code can be faked,so those who would like to get the real Taiyo made DVDs can't just take the results obtained by DVD Identifier for granted.Am i right here?
But what about the inner hub code which appears on the DVD?Can this one also be faked or can it be taken as the real guide to know if the DVD in hand is a genuine Taiyo or not?
And by the way, what are the other brands that are still being produced by Taiyo Yuden in the DVD+R 8x range?
I know that i ask a lot of questions but here's the only place i know i can find people who has real experience and knowledge. Those who have the right answers for every question and whose advices are precious as the ones of DocTY,teflonmyk, aabbccdd and some others.
Thanks in advance as i know that most of you must be very busy out there.
Vincent.

@TY4ever - Welcome to the TY club. I'm not the foremost expert but have some rules that use to ensure I get real TY media. You are correct that the code burned onto the disc can be faked. The stamped code is much harder to fake and I'm not certain that it has been actually reported that fakes have done this. U experts, correct me on this.
The other main rule is to buy from a known reputable supplier such as supermedia or rima as these folks always sell genuine TY discs. There are many other brands that repackage TY discs but my own personal view on going this route is why??? How much easier can it get to click the mouse a couple times and presto - discs arrive on your doorstep in a couple days. Usually very good prices and knowing that the discs are genuine. If you enjoy the hunt, enjoy burning up expensive petrol and vehicle wear and tear, and have nothing better to do, then search out the gems in the rough. To me it is a crap shoot and big waste of time. Any need to further clarify my position?? ;=)

I agree with aabbccdd, I have yet to get bogus from supermedia or meritline. As the doc would say, everyone is a "flawless" burn :)
