Thanks docTy,aabbccdd and garmoon for your quick replies. And also thanks for removing that doubt in my mind.Be sure,i'm going to keep my verbs in a very safe place as you advised me to do.
Btw doc, nice to know that the the 8x DVD+R(TY) is also your favourite.Me too,i prefer going on that media speed.

And concerning which burners i'm using, well, actually i've been burning some of these verbs dics on a pinoeer DVR-111EXL here in Shanghai. But once in Mauritius,i'll burn them on both my LG 4163B & 4167B.Also forgot to tell ya,i've bought the new plextor PX-760A and it's still in the box, waiting for myself to get in Mauritius to use it.
On the pioneer,i burn them on 8x max using nero.Even if i see that i can burn them on 12x,i stick to the 8x speed.I don't go half the speed of the media but at least i respect the speed which is 8x.
What do you think about that?

Gonna stop here, but thanks a lot for the advices. You were right doc while saying that i'll be apprecaiting this "peace of mind" and that's thanks to YOU and to others as well(not to forget).

Have a nice day to all of you!!!

Vincent.

neither do i, for the most part that is...on 4x and 8x rated media, i burn them at the rated speeds, only on the 16x rated media do i slow it down to 8x, out of ALL my drives 8x burns produce the best quality scores on my TYs, Verbs (MCC), Maxells (hitachi mij), and even my Riteks~ :)

if you were to use the "less than quality media" it would be adviseable to burn much slower, when dealing with poor quality media, slowing down the burn speed seems like one of the only things you can do to even attain a "decent" backup, but who knows how long they will last after the burn...LOL

it's good that you are using Taiyo Yudens now, you have good drives at your disposal as well, i personally really like Pioneer drives as my older dvr-109 is my FASTEST drive to date, easily a thousand+ burns on it already and still going strong...i'm sure the 111 model you have is a quality unit as well~ i don't own any LG drives, but if my memory serves me correctly, our friendly moderator creaky has used those 2 LG drives you use in the past, before he decided to go with the Benq 1650 (after convincing by me and quite a few others) :)
i think they served him well if im not mistaken; as to the newest Plextor, read many reviews about it and was actually considering that particular model you have myself few months ago, i actually ended up NOT buying it as i had to budget myself for a new computer build, so i'm just using my older drives (i buy multiple quantities whenever i get a new dvd burner, 2 pieces minimum, just in case so i have a spare if one dies unexpectedly) now in my system, save myself some $$$ buying new optical drives...that plextor should be very good though, it's from their premiumline too (given a 16x DVD+R YUDEN000T03, i believe that drive CAN burn it at a ridiculous 18x) :)

stick with burning @8x with the drives you are using, the whole "burn at 1/2 the rated speed" is just a GENERAL rule of thumb that should be followed on MOST basic systems; if your computer is "up to spec" with other good components, i see no reason why it wouldn't be able to give you excellent burns @8x on 8x rated media, your optical drives are definitely up to it...carry on...burn away...

How are the YUDEN000T03 performing compared to YUDEN000T02?

I found one TY-03 spindle at Best Buy a while ago, and sadly have used them all. I'm very happy with them and burn them at 12X with good results. Just wish Best Buy would stock some more of them.

You know what Doc . . . it took me a long time but I finally figured out that the TY that you're talking about in this thread are little round pieces of plastic . . I was mistakenly under the impression that you just didn't know how to spell Thai as in Thai-Sticks . . .

if you can tell me what this cat is worth and what breed it is, I'll be forever impressed . . .

while i have absolutely ZERO prior knowledge of cats and their specific breeds/price, i am going to take a wild guess as to the cat you pictured there~ :)

is it a Russian Blue? if it is, my sister used to have one back in Indiana when we were kids, looked very similar :P but once again, i have no knowledge of individual cat breeds or anything...i guess it would be unfair for me to incorrectly categorize cats that are of a totally different purebred :) i have no clue, but i'm sticking with my guess of Russian Blue...

as to it's worth, i've seen kittens start from $350 in price and more commonly sold for around $700 or so each; i'm sure the actual breeder cats to produce the kittens are worth MANY times their litter/babies~ :)

so, correct me if i'm wrong, i'm going to just GUESS that a breeder Russian Blue is in the general price range of a few thousand? less than 5k, but definitely a few thousand dollars for one...

let me know how close (or far) i am from the actual breed of the cat and the worth~ :) this exercise kinda tests my ability to make educated guesses in a topic i am completely unfamiliar with...teach and learn~ :) in this case, i will def. be LEARNING...

LOL, regarding the THAI sticks, i don't know if i'm just really slow today in picking up the joke, but taiwan is a completely separate entity from thailand, two distinct and separate countries :) unless you were referring to the OTHER definition of thai-sticks in regards to cannabis, then i got it~ :) i'm 1/2 TAIWANese, like the MIT vs MIJ debates in media...i have yet to see media produced in THAILAND LOL~ :P

@binkie7

couldn't forget YOU, you've been a tremendous help from what i've seen in your posts, very accurate and def. deserving of your addict status (please, in NO WAY was i even implying that you gained addict status undeservingly~, the one i am referring to is of a diff. gender than you, LOL, so no worries) :)

Okay,

I'm back. I received my two sample discs of TYG02s. Without regard to the dvd itself, I burned the game "Indigo Prophecy" for the PS2. DVD Decrypter reported that the disc manufacturer was TYG02. So, with that in mine, I let it make the burn.
Popping that disc into my slim-line PS2 behind my Swap Magic disc, I knew right off the bat I had a problem. Games that boot successfully normally display a brief red flicker flash on the screen, then the game loads up. However, with this DVD disc, there was a long pause at boot time, and when the Atari logo appeared, it stuttered, and the image froze briefly.
I did a re-burn on one of my TYG03s, and the game loaded perfectly (not saying that TYG03s will be my default, but I got lucky on this one.)
Now, I present this question to the masters of this TY arena. With DVD Decrypter reporting the manufacturer as TYGO2, and with the DVD itself missing the traditional serial code on the inner ring representing the TY series, is this disc I have an actual TY disc, or a fake?

I'm not the expert or master, but without the serial code on the inner ring I'd say it's FAKE.

Where did you get them from?

Well,

I've purchased both the TyGO3's and the TYG02's off of Ebay. However, I bought them from two different sellers. The first seller was where I got the TYG03s from, and his auction page revealed the serial code information, as shown on the first page of this thread.
I've now realized since the time I posted my last reply on here a few minutes ago, that I did buy some fakes. Thank goodness it was just a sample set of 2 blank dvds for $1. I went back to that person's auction page, and at the very bottom I found the phrase "these DVDs are made to Yaiyo Yuden specifications..." Thus, that's the proof in the pudding I needed to verify they were fakes. The thing that threw me off course was that his page showed a Nero DVD reporting tool showing the DISC Manufacturer as TYGO2.
With that experience in the past now, I've gone back to the previous seller who's TYG03s have the correct serial number series on the inner ring, to do more business with. He's now in stock of 8X versions. The only reason I had purchased the 16x versions the first go around, was because I didn't know that the name Taiyo Yuden broke down into 3 sub-categories being the TYG0 series, thus, I didn't pay attention to the max burn speed.

You shouldn't buy discs from EBay. Fakes are everywhere on there. Stick with the reliable places to get genuine TY's. Supermediastore, Meritline, Rima and even NewEgg.

If there's a discalaimer that reads something to the effect of the discs only being made to TY specs . . they aren't fake, they're just not TY discs . . for them to be fake, the seller has to claim that they are genuine TY . .

I think I should have just stayed with my Verbatim 8x -Rs, but I wanted a taste of these golden Taiyo Yuden dvds.

The specs on the sample discs I bought state:
- Media is OEM
- Media is Grade A and unbranded
- Contains media ID code: TYG02
- Inner hub has an ID: 307T

If the above reply is true: "sounds genuine", then it appears that TYGO2s will not work for my slim-line PS2. The only other brand that I have found to be 100% effective are the Verbatims. Using them, unless the game is dual layered, I never have to rebuild a game.
Also, going on the reply, "sounds genuine", the venture has now gotten deaper with the TY arena. I thought the Taiyo Yuden name could only be used and/or recognized via the special series of numbers used in the serial code. Just the same, nobody else can be me with out my birth given social security number and finger prints.
Oh yeah, I got the samples from the user with auction number 8826543785.
