I've noticed a few cosmetic differences with the TYG-01 disks, it appears that some of the dye has leaked into the inner hub area, I don't think this affects playability in any way, 'cuz I haven't had any problems with the 4X disks.

Went back to the Pizza business, trying to get my own franchise started, do a little wind down time while the kids and wife are snoring.
About your post of the labels being stickered over, that has to be illegal, changing the country of origin, but I really wonder if they are genuine Ty's,meaning are they shipped over in bulk packs, and assembled here in the smaller spindles? Curious to get to the bottom of this.

aabbccdd,

Please understand the what I am going to post is not meant as a criticism, or show any doubt about your integrity and honesty. It is out of curiosity.

aabbccdd, don't you think that there are other online services that might at least or more reliable, economical and as good to work with as meritline.com and supermedia.com are?

I never ordered with supermedia, but have with meritline and I did have an issue with what I was sent. But that could occur with anyone.

One of the good points of finding a retail source is if you can return the media if something is wrong. I know that if I get media from SAMS Club and if I open, a pack of 100, and I check them out and they are not what I expected, or a bad batch, I can return it immediately. There also is the issue of buying locally.
Where I prefer to buy is at smaller local stores, but unfortunately, they are going out of business fast. They one I use to get so much of my hardware, just closed. I like it when the dollars stay. BUT, they are hard to find.

I think no matter what online vendor one uses, it is essential to check their return policies. On many of them, even if you are sent the wrong item, the customer is expected to the amount of one or two shipping trips. Does the online vendor cross-ship if there are problems with getting faulty hardware/software/media. ?

IS the customer expected to eat the cost of souble shipping if the vendor ships a working item, but is not what the cvustomer expected. Like ordering Verbatim, then opening them up and seeing that they are CMCs?

Personally, I have ordered thousands of dollars worth of hardware over the years with newegg.com. I have ordered a lot with amazon.com. I have purchase a one year "subscription" type of survice with Amazon.com where everything I order from them is shipped second day air, and is guaranteed to be out the door within 24 hours. This with no free shipping. This included a Canon IP 4200 printer that weighted about 13 or so pounds.
I also have ordered a lot from neato.com --> but not media, I ordered media, photo paper and a shredder.

I really have no bias, except to give you my ordering experiences. I do like to have choices and like to shop and discover more and more quality vendors.
I would like to know if there is any criticism about the follow vendors who sell Taiyo Yuden media.
Is there anything wrong with vendors like:

newegg and rima are both good personally myself i wouldn't use amazon for blank media the others i dont know about . i list supermediastore and meritline because you never get fakes from either and yes they will take them back if your not happy or you have a problem but i think i most cases your going to have to pay the shipping. as online dealers go both are rated at the top of the list year after year so thats why i shoot both out if people need to know where to get top quality Taiyo Yuden media . i have a time issue working 50 plus hours a week and buying online just make since to me , no gas ,no tax, free shipping and boom there on my porch in a few days. that way i don't have to hunt for the Sony or Fujiflim thats Made In Japan in a B&M store that code out as Taiyo Yuden

For what its worth... I have purchused hundreds [alot less then most of ya] and have great success with supermediastore with TY media, but love the hunt also- I just thought it was strange that someone posted the sticker issue MIJ when many times I have seen the the differ, that is MIT here in washington... I really love supermediastore and when you catch the deals its even better... Never, never have had any problems from the supperdupperstore... by the way it was Ritaid and Fred Meyers where I found the stickers, thats if anyone knows those stores.

To blivetNC,

I recently found Sony D-21 type, 16X DVD+R MIJ (no stickers!) media in 25 pack cake boxes at CompUsa. I usually don't buy anything at CompUsa because of their rigid return policy, but noticed these MIJ's and couldn't resist. DVD Identifier says they're made by Sony.

I'm not a huge user like some of you, but I've burned about 20 of the Sony discs so far, with no failures. I usually only use Verbatim and T.Y., but these Sony's seem to be really good quality.

Because of a tip on this site to burn at low speed, I've been burning at 2.4 with very good results.

I'll put in a vote for rima.com as a source for T.Y. media. I had a really good experience getting 16X DVD+R genuine T.Y.'s from them.

Husker13, you can burn faster than 2.4x most burn at 8x or 4x at the very least. at 8x i get better quality scans than burning at a slower speed

It is great when people have success with ordering their media. I totally understand about time.

PLEASE ALL, there is no need to stick up for Meritline and Supermedia. I haven't criticized them or implied anything negative. I would just like to see if we can share positive information are several TY vendors. This is not about which vendor is better, or worse.

But surely, people have ordered TY media (not Fuji, etc), from other sources than Meritline and Supermedia.

I am not trying to downgrade these vendors, I would like to know about other vendors as well.

For example, I see that www.neato.com advertises right in this thread.

I have order media from newegg.com and they do sell TY. Has anyone had any bad experiences with them with media?

I am not saying that anyone is better or worse, etc. But, there [has] to be more than only two vendors that will are reliable, with good return policies that ship TY at competitive prices ?
I really would like some experiences with other vendors.

"But remember, rebates are NOT sales, just scams so that retailers can get customers to pay full retail price

As for the Fujis, I don't have time either. There was a time when K-mart was having lots of sales of them, and they were all TY. I get an email when they are having promotions, so when I have seen it, I would purchase it.

I have my email set so that when I receive promotional ads from some vendors, that they automatically get placed in a file folder and nefer muck up my inbox. Then whenever I have time, I can do a quick look at them.

I can tell you that I used to shop at Compusa a lot, years ago. But now, I wouldn't go near them. For one, everything they sell is at full retail. On some items they try to full customers with the old rebate hook. Also very bad is that their retail stores and Internet stores have different companies. No connection. BestBuy is the same.

I just want to make sure that we work together in finding the most choices and therefore make it as easy as possible for all of us to use TY media. It certainly is the best.

I also totally agree with aabbccdd about the speed of burning, I find the speed listings misleading. The quality of the media has lots to do with burning speed.

Some time I will do a random price check. Maybe that could be a regular feature, where we do a weekly post of the cost of some TYs at some of the more popular vendor sites.

Jon

@jolo

:) i can totally understand where you are coming from...so, i'll share with you and others MY personal online shopping experiences: btw this list is in NO particular order or preference

ok, put it this way, i have to pay CA sales tax at ALLLLLLL these "popular stores," with the ONLY exception being amazon.com (assuming the items/media is SOLD BY AMAZON.com, not some other reseller/retailer under the amazon.com website, in those instances, shipping and sales tax are charged accordingly depending on where THEIR store is based)

1. supermediastore.com - have ordered THOUSANDS of dollars worth of media as well as other inexpensive computer accessories (hard drive enclosure/thumb drives/printer ink) and have been very pleased with all my orders and their GENERALLY fair pricing (when on sale and free shipping, that sweetens the pot; however, being here in CA, i pay sales tax which usually isn't much, but can certainly add up when you order is in the $400-$500 mark) :) never had a "bad batch" of dvd media where i would have to return it to them, so, personally, i can't say about their return policy and having to pay for shipping at least one way~ that might be the case...fast shipping as their warehouse is less than an hour by car from me, next day delivery on items ordered. :)

2. rima.com - have placed only a few orders with them for items/media that the other online retailers do not carry (most recently before i got a 100 pack free from Taiyo Yuden directly to keep me as a customer, the 16x DVD+R TYs (YUDEN000T03)...pricing is good and again, about on par with the other online retailers, with sales/free shipping, even better...also, i have to pay sales tax here too. NEVER had a problem with them, so don't know about how good their return policy is, fast shipping, next day delivery for me.

3. meritline.com - again, very close to where i live, next day delivery, have ordered from them when their pricing was better than supermediastore's during certain 3-day sales they have...their product line is actually BIGGER than supermediastore's in terms of EVERYTHING COMBINED, but media-wise, pretty close to offering same stuff~ i HAVE had to do a RMA (return) with them on 2 occassions; once when they sent me a bad batch of TYG03s (16x DVD-R TYs) when THEY FIRST CAME OUT/AVAILABLE on the market, part of the reason for the coasters then are probably associated with my drives not having a sufficient firmware for the new 16x rated media, but this was not likely the case as the new replacements they sent me, every one of them was flawless :) i basically "bitched & complained" enough in a polite fashion to have them pay for shipping back and naturally they covered shipping the replacements to me :) the 2nd time for a return was not their fault, they sent me a faulty drive/dvd burner and they gladly paid for return shipping and a new drive~ all in all, good customer service when something does go wrong...keep in mind, you need to be aggressive, but not rude, with them when on the phone. :)

4. newegg.com - this is usually my place to go for COMPUTER COMPONENTS, MOST of my dozen or so RECENT (last 3 years)builds, the parts have come from here...great pricing on parts, unfortunately, sales tax AGAIN for me which does add up since computer parts run me easily into the thousands if i choose to order multiple quantities at one time. they DO IN FACT CARRY genuine Taiyo Yudens, but comparitively, they are slightly higher in price than the others; they DO often times have sales on Verbatim media (namely the DVD+R DLs) and i've seen it before where if you don't live in CA or NJ (the 2 states that charge sales tax) and they have their free shipping deals, it is BY FAR the best price for Verbatim DVD+R DLs in the 10-pack after everything is considered...i also bought the generic Verbatims (without the fancy retail packaging) single layer from them long time ago, i believe if memory serves me, they were about $.31/each at the time when normally retail for the 8x speed were easily $0.40-$0.60 each (yes, i've seen Verbatim retail spindles for $60+ for 100 pack) :) of course, recently, with all these local sales for Verbatim brand media being ~approx~ $15/50-pack or $30/100-pack; if Verbatim is your flavor, much better off going locally for them and picking them up...i personally am very fond of the 8x DVD+R MCC003s, those are MY FAVORITE in all the Verbatim flavors available...the 16x DVD+R MCC004s are very good quality as well, but i favor the YUDEN000T03s (16x dvd+r) over the Verbatim kind...personal opinion once again.
had to return 1 item (wasn't media related) to newegg because they sent me the wrong part/model number; they GLADLY paid for return shipping AND were very friendly on the phone with absolutely NO hassle whatsoever, on top of that, they gave me FREE SHIPPING on ANY ITEM that i ordered from them in the future (regardless of weight or size. i've seen some of the shipping rates for the LARGE/HEAVY items and it isn't cheap) :) so, they have certainly EARNED my repeat business in the future...great company in my opinion.

5. amazon.com - crappy shipping dept. regarding media...but, when on sale and directly from amazon.com, FREE "super saver" shipping and NO TAX for me!! whoo hoo! a GOOD deal if you find what you looking for during a sale period. few years ago when 8x rated media started appearing in the market, they were very expensive while the "norm" 4x rated media were the "good buys" for people, amazon.com consistently had the BEST pricing for retail sold media (namely Verbatim) before bestbuy, staples, compusa, etc. had their weekly media sales...most of MY 8x Verbatim media was purchased from amazon.com, the only "bad taste" i got from amazon.com was their incredibly HORRIBLE shipping procedures...they threw 4-5 spindles of 100 (i ALWAYS buy my media in bulk, 400 minimum) in a large box big enough to fit a small tv into, put 2 small air-bags in it and shipped it UPS ground...BIG MISTAKE...all of my cakeboxes were cracked/shattered and i had a few dvds just bouncing around (totally destroyed/scratched) that fell off the spindle due to the shipping. you can imagine how disappointed i was when i opened the box to find everything in pieces!, well, to make a long story short...called them that day, complained like a little bitch until i lost my voice...they apologized for the poor shipping/packaging and asked me what i wanted to do...they were willing to pay for the shipping back to them and offered a full refund + $10 credit for the inconvenience; i asked them what could they do for me as i didn't want to go through the trouble of re-taping and driving to the UPS drop center to send it back...so, after about 5 min. speaking to a supervisor, he offered me a $20 gift certificate if i would just keep the damaged media and his apology...suffice it to say, i took him up on the offer...out of the 500 pieces of Verbatim media (5 spindles of 100) about 25 were damaged beyond any possibility of burning onto them, so...i look at is as $20 for 25 bad pieces, good enough for me. :) i have ordered countless OTHER stuff (non media related) from amazon in the past and they were great, no complaints there from me. lastly, amazon.com seems to have THE MOST VARIETY of Verbatim (older datalifeplus consistently in stock) if that is what you fancy...and they DO carry authentic Taiyo Yudens as well~ :) but pricing for TYs is NOT competitive at all compared to the other media resellers online~

6. allmediaoutlet.com - ordered a FEW times from them just to verify whether the "Burnmaster" media was in fact, Taiyo Yuden made; the OLDER ONES (ie. 8x DVD-R, 8x DVD+R that SPECIFICALLY STATED IN THE DESCRIPTION "JAPANESE MADE" or "MADE AND PACKED IN JAPAN" are Taiyo Yudens :) these, btw, are Taiyo Yuden factory "over-produced" stock...they CAN be compared to the current "valueline" series in terms of quality, however, they come in a cakebox IDENTICAL to the premiumline Taiyo Yudens purchased anywhere else online :) but with a "Burnmaster" outer paper label...i have PERSONALLY found absolutely NOTHING wrong or "defective" from these that would warrant me to tell anyone to "stay away from them"...they ARE INDEED genuine/authentic Taiyo Yudens, they are just sold under a different brand, much like locally Fujifilm/Sony, but these are shiny silver, not with a matte finish or white top (like the sony's) :) this company is located here in CA too, so, next day delivery and sales tax again...but, no problems and they were very responsive to my emails prior to my order. their prices are "not the most competitive" when compared to supermediastore, meritline, or rima; but they are just as good about delivery and such...
*special note* they carry a fairly extensive line of FAKE TAIYO YUDENs under various names, so buyer beware...MAKE SURE YOU GET THE TAIYO YUDEN brand specifically if you choose to order from them...stay away from their "other less known" brands (ie. dupsonic and their TDK OEM Burnmasters...yuck, again TDK has made it's mark with their media)

finally, i have not personally tried neato.com nor cdroutlet.com; so can't give ya any response there...i am the type of person who FIRMLY believes in giving ACTUAL user experience from a particular store IF i have used them before, i can't STAND people that recommend/bash/flame products or companies that they have NEVER THEMSELVES tried before (media included) or ordered from...there is NO EXCUSE for stupidity/ignorance when i read comments such as, "my friend told me x media sucks and y media is great, so for you to defend x media you are wrong"...blah blah blah...immature replies like that are NOT welcome in my thread here.

i give people advice based on WHAT I HAVE PERSONALLY TRIED AND TESTED on ALL my various drives w/ diff. firmware and diff. burning programs...i too have my "preferences" and my "dislikes" when it comes to media, but i say this from EXPERIENCE, not hearsay from what people read on the internet and comments from idiots that have ZERO experience with specific media, let alone a firm grasp on HOW to properly burn a dvd~ some of the comments i read here in the dvd media forum on afterdawn are simply ridiculous, people bashing/defending media that they have NEVER TRIED before...OR...blaming media as the problem when their firmwares for their specific drives are 5 revisions behind and they don't know how to use nero/roxio/dvd decrypter/etc. when it comes time to BURN.

anyways, rant over...i appreciate every single one of ALL the good contributors here in my docTY Taiyo Yuden thread, it's just a shame i can't say the same for a lot of the BS going around in the various other threads here in the dvd media section of AD :)

have a good one all, may the Taiyo Yuden force be strong with you...as in my sig, TYs 4 Life! and on an ending note, please spread my quote in my sig...

This is the one and only thread that I almost take for gospel and the reason is Doc TY. You can't go wrong with his guidelines on TY media. Also on this thread, I have learned about drives, burn speeds, all sorts of assoiated info. Now, where to purchase, as stated by aabbccdd. To one and all (doc TY, aabbccdd, blivetNC, cincyrob, jolo, garmoon, and all the members I have forgot to mention), thanks for all the good info you have given me. Talk to you later. George

Newegg.com:

I ordered mobo and fed ex tried to deliver it,said I had to be there to sign it,so it went to their regional office and then back to newegg.

Meritline.com:
Order shiny inkjet printables- ups needed a signature-went back to regional office, then back to meritline.UPS wouldn't wait a couple extra minutes for me to get home from work. Major war with ups on that delivery, especially when my gf was home and he didn't ring the door buzzer.

This is just a few things I ordered,so I very rarely order from the web.

Maybe DHL would be better?

I guess policies are different in other places. They just leave the stuff on the front door here in Louisiana. Seldom have to sign. They don't even bother when we're home sometimes.

the wealth of knowledge within these pages are 2nd to none~ :) all very positive experiences from various members residing in many different parts of the country/world~

for those that are having issues regarding the shipping method of choice by certain companies, this is a problem you need to take up with the carrier themselves (ie. UPS, Fedex, etc.) i'm sure most of the time the stores that you purchase items from are very accomodating when you call them to complain about a certain scheduled delivery, but depending on the area and the individual policies set forth by the shipping company in YOUR area, might have to be a little more persistent in getting them to offer a delivery schedule that will suit your "at home" or "no signature required" needs accordingly...

i had this problem with BOTH UPS and Fedex in the past, i am almost always at work during the daytime and MOST of the time "signature is required" by both these companies for packages sent (at least that is true here in CA)...i've had quite a few packages "lost" (ie. stolen) because they were left unattended outside, so i made a few calls to the UPS/FEDEX holding facility to insist on telling the drivers on my route to be a little more careful in the future (i found out that if you make a claim for a lost package thru UPS or FEDEX and they do the investigation and it is determined that it was the driver's negligence, the value/worth of your package ordered comes out of the DRIVER's paycheck)...this will make them think twice next time if the problem becomes reoccuring...

as with all things, your mileage will vary :) good luck sorting out delivery/shipping issues everyone, some of us (myself included) do not live in the most "honest" of areas where theft and moral values are not the "highest priorities" on your neighbor's list :) having your packages stolen from right under your nose while left outside your home (because the driver didn't even take the 1 second to ring the doorbell) is ridiculous, but a reality that some of us DO currently face...speak up, be heard and changes will come...

Hello everyone,

I've finally got my hands on some of those Taiyo Yuden blank dvd discs. According to my software, they are TYGO3. However, when it comes to console usage, I finding that my batting average is not up to par like that when I was using Verbatim -Rs.
The software to which I'm burning my images states the disc burn rates avaiable are 6x, 8x, 12x, and 16x. I've been using 6x, but I miss the option to burn at 4x.
Are the TYG03s actually recommended for my field of use with them (console gaming)? Using the same type for my DVD burns provide great movie playbacks.

Thanks for your time,

Phaser1 (aka Digital9x)

phaser1, for backing up games i would use the TYGO2s 8x and burn at 4x max. to make sure your getting the TYGO2s order the premiumline and not the valueline, the valueline you can get either TYGO3s TYGO2s or TGOG1s depending on what stock they have in at the time you order, but the premiumline if you order TYGO2s thats what you will get for sure

Thanks for the quick feedback.

I'm noticing skips and some random freezing in some of my games. I knew it had to be the dvds, but wanted the overall opinion of what I had in my hands. I can say that some games don't do bad at all, but I've noticed that those that are close to 4 gigs cause issues, where as if burned on Verbatims, no issues at all. I'll be getting that premiumline here shortly.

Thanks again,

Phaser1.
