If you mean the value line, yeah you'll usually end up with TYG02/03 nowadays, according to Doc, these're of equal quality to the premium line.

I just downloaded the identifier, it was very easy to use, I'm sure it has many other options of obtaining more elaborite information but I'm not to computer savvy, but it was easy enough for me to understand the basics it's all I really wanted anyway, it identified my ty2 that I got last week from supermediastore.com, and yes my 200 ty package is definatly the original, again, thanks so much Vin.

Well Ill tell ya-I love it... not even close to being done though...Need new PSU [600 SLI] only have 400 now, My drives are low end sony burners that are soon to be traded in [no firmware with these] had to unplug CD drive because PSU does not have enought connections with all the stuff I plugged in... only complaint is it is very tight with dual vid cards. I also need to redue the wiring to the smaller ones. When I am done it will have all SATA drives. Having some noise come from speakers also- I will fix it with that sound card with all the controlls in front of case to play with editing later on. but I am really happy with the purformance... now need to get faster cable instead of DSL- truely a pleasurful thing in the making...

glad to hear you are so pleased with your system and have a lot of great ideas to make it even better~ :) if i could interject with a PERSONAL opinion in terms of upgrading to a SLI-capable power supply, i have found my Enermax Liberty as well as my OCZ GameXStream units to be VERY capable with my own SLI-setup~ :) just a friendly recommendation for units i HAVE personally use and use currently that i am VERY pleased with the performance with~
did you have a particular brand in mind? don't be fooled with some of the less-reliable powersupply companies that CLAIM "x" -amount of total wattage, not all high-end power supplies (600watts+) are created equal...good luck.

i do on occassion, it's a great website, but i have limited my own contributions/participation due to a personal issue i've had with a member~ :) Soph is the main ADMINISTRATOR ova there and brobear is an admin too (or part of the staff for a lack of a better word), lotta good info over there, it's more personal than anything else for my lack of participation there, but i will say SOME of the guys there are extremely knowledgeable :)

Cool thanks for the info. Not looking for them now, but will be when I go to build a new PC. Won't be soon with no money lol. Man I can never find good deals locally on TY's. I stockpiled a bunch of them awhile back. I overpaid, $30 for a 50 pack of Yuden000T02. Once I found TYG03 on sale at Staple's for $15 a 50 pack. I didn't need discs, but I couldn't pass that up. That's about it, damned hick town. SMS is offering $35 for a 100 pack of the premium TYG02's with free ground shipping, if anyone's low. I'd post a link, but because of the html scripts, their links never turn out right.

Yeah the spacer's never failed me. I hesitate to say that it's a guarantee of getting TY's, but damn close. The pattern has held for all the packs I've ever seen while browsing. Older Yuden000T02's had a circular spacer, but newer TYG03/Yuden000T02/03 have octogonal spacers as far as I'm aware. Hey Doc, this is kinda rhetorical, but do you think I should update to the newest firmware for my 1640? I read that you said some peeps have reported issues with it. I have no burning issues, cranked out like 5 Xbox backups yesterday with no issues, so I'll probably stick with BSOB. What do you think?

if things are working out very well for your at this point in time, i would def. suggest KEEPING YOUR CURRENT 1640 firmware that you've become quite fond of~ :) as the saying goes, if it ain't broke, why fix it? hehehe
stick with the BSOB, i'm just personally a little more adventureous when it comes to updating to the LATEST firwmare, it doesn't always mean that it's the "greatest" being that there is an update, so, stay with the one that has given you the least amount of problems...the only time i would REALLY suggest updating firmware is when you go to the newer 16x rated media and you notice problems burning to them (whether it be due to firmware tables being lacking for the newer MID coding or write strategies, etc.) :) but if ALL is well in the burning dept. now with current firmware and you are pleased with the results, no need to update...stick with what works!
so, you've gotten into xbox now? mind i asking is this the xbox360 you've managed to mod or the original xbox? i have no clue when it comes to gaming consoles, so forgive the newbie question...i have 2 friends that recently purchased a xb0x360 premium system for a little over $300 shipped, so if you have any tips regarding modding a xbox360, shoot me a PM and we can discuss things further without taking this thread off-topic~ :) my buddies ALMOST convinced me to get one too, but, since i'm rarely home/have time to play games, despite the great pricing they got on it, it really wouldn't be worthwhile for me to own one and just let it collect dust~ :)
docTY
edit for cincyrob : ironically, i have some of those TYG03s with the SAME "batch number"...hehe, weird how things work out, mine happen to be the unbranded silver-shiny kind of Taiyo Yudens, but same inner hub coding...mine have worked just fine if that is any confirmation of that particular "batch" :) good luck buddy!

Thanks Doc that's what I figured. I never really use 16x media anyway, so I'll stick with BSOB for now. I have a modified Xbox, primarily use it as a media center, emulator etc. Was just fiddling around with the original Ninja Gaiden and laughing at how hard it is, picturing someone going on a shooting spree after playing it lol. You can modify the Xbox 360 with a chip that attaches to the DVD Drive called the NME chip. It's not a true modchip, as it doesn't allow you to run unsigned code, only play backups from the same region. That in itself isn't so bad, but backing up games is a pain. You have to either taxi your Xbox360 disc drive from the console to your PC, then flash it with the appropriate firmware (one for ripping, one for burning) to backup games. So you have to connect it to your PC, flash, rip, flash, burn, then put it back in the console. Really a giant pain in the arse. Add to that most 360 games are DVD-9, and you're spending a lot of money on DL media. What some people do is buy a spare Xbox360 disc drive and leave it connected to their PC for ripping/burning purposes. That may not be 100% correct, but it's the rough idea. The other solution is the wxripper method which involves taking your DVD Burner apart and hot swapping the disc before you burn it. Here's a guide for that: http://www.clevermod.com/index.php?article=12
As you may suspect, people I've talked to in the know think this is an utter waste of time. There's also firmware hacks for the Hitachi and Samsung DVD models which will do the same thing, but no unsigned code and the same nightmare for backing up discs. So in short, I'm waiting for a true mod that will allow you to run unsigned code, backups from any region, as well as a better method of backing up games. I've been told it could be here around December, could be much longer. We'll just have to wait and see.
