That's what I thought Mort, I saw that it has been crossflashed to a BenQ DW 1670 successfully on CD Freaks, as have a couple other drives. They both have Matsushita chip sets, so I believe you're right. Now I just need to pay double for the Sony name. :P

You want scans, I've got scans. Hot of the presses, 8x burns on Yuden000T02.

TYG03 are 16x DVD-R's, TYG02 are 8x DVD-R's. Never heard of that site, best to stick with more well known ones.

86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com

Well generally 16x media isn't as good of quality as 8x media. If you're just using it for movie backups, should be fine, for game backups, make sure you find some 8x media. I can't imagine that site giving you honest feedback, if they stock fake TY's, I would hope they're not stupid enough to admit it.

Those TY codes you gave above are for DVD-R media not DVD+R. The +r's will have YUDEN in the code.

david89 i would stick to getting your media from supermediastore.com or meritline.com takes the guess work out of your purchase and you can do better on price also. theres NO quality difference between the TYGO2s 8x or the TYGO3s 16x just the write speed is the only difference. you dont want to burn above 8x anyway.

cincyrob , i see you have been listening to Bob and Tom lol there based in Indianapolis that where iam at.

all the BenQ talk dont forget about Plextor lol.

and supermediastore has a great deal on blank media 300 pack of DVD-R for 71.99 no tax(except for Kivory lol) and free shipping ,its only three days

DVD-R-2001.html?WT.mc_id=06801emailchkonly_3624_DVD01X0375-300" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-4x-DVD-R-2001.html?WT....

i dont know why the links dont work anymore as of late in here WTF????

Dunno why, noone can get them working, it's not just you lol. I would definitely buy from on the sites aabbccdd mentioned. If you're looking for a BenQ DW 1650, I dare someone to top this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827101010R

$26.99 with $5.65 three day shipping? They might as well be giving them away. The 1650 has proven to as reliable as the 1640, is feature packed, ask Doc or Catfreak, they swear by em. So do I.

Hey mort81.

http://www.jpldisplays.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23_2...

Media Code: YUDEN000T03 ..should be real.

Well guys if 16X is worse in quality than 8x then i mgiht as well get the 8X ones for quality. Maybe half half?? Iam against buying OEM ones. Can u confirm that if i buy the 8X oens it wont be worse in quality than the 16x ones?

According to this:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buyerguides/buymedia.htm
JPL is a good Australian online store so the cd/dvd should be real TY.

Let me add this. I haven't personally used 16x media much at all, maybe two or three burns. 95% of my DVD backups are PS2/Xbox games, and 8x media is the way to go there. I'm generalizing that 16x media isn't as good as 8x media from common sense and second hand accounts from Doc and others. Let Mort81 and Doc be the determining factor there, they won't steer you wrong.

Tokijin---Thanks for the link and headup on the BenQ1650
My old Sony crapped out on me and was looking for a replacement to keep from ripping and burning from my 1640 too much.
I was just going to buy a DVD-ROM for reading, but at that price I purchased it about 5 seconds after I seen the link:)

@ aabbccdd ah no don,t forget the Plextors as the Benqs are a great Quality burner same as the Plextors just that each has it's own choice in media from my experiences. But the price of a Benq is unreal compared to my Plextors. Chris

No prob. I jumped back when I saw that price as well. Almost considered buying one, except my current burner shows no signs of going south. Newegg is an awesome site, great prices and customer service. I missed something, that link was open box, dunno if that means previously used or not. Sorry about that, didn't notice it. It'll still probably work, but you should be aware.

They've gotcha covered. Here's a new one for $5 more.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827101010

If you want to change your order, I'm sure they'll let you, my experience with newegg customer service was painless, I ordered a SATA HD for my Xbox, but it wasn't compatible. They refunded my money promptly no questions asked, and I was able to get an IDE HD that was compatible.

I agree. Thats one cookie I leave on my computer, It took about 3 clicks and I was done.
Last week I recieved another batch of 100+R and 100 -R Taiyo DVD and was afraid I'd only get to test them in 1 burner. Or worse yet, use my writer for reading and flipping discs between the two processes and wearing out my good 1640 before its time.

__edit___ I seen the open box warning, and actually during ordering sent me an extra disclaimer box (check yes if agree no if do not accept terms of open box blah blah bla) thanks but I'll be ok as long as I'm not too lazy to send it back in 15 days if a problem.

Yeah the HD I ordered was refurbished as well. No idea if it worked, but all the parts were there, and they took it back without question. I doubt you'll have any issues, but it doesn't matter anyway, you can always send it back.

Tokijin, you can add me to that list to with Kivory and Mort. Ive probably burned more TYGO3s in the last few months than both of them put together (well over a 1000).i haven't had quite the same luck with the TYGO3s compared to the TYGO2s but its close ,seems like there getting better the last few orders though so i would say most people should be fine with the TYGO3s(expect for burning games like you). iam using the vauleline because of the price difference and although i may get a few more bad disc than with the premium line its definitely worth the savings in the end .like today i ordered 300 DVD-R TYGO2s or TYGO3s whatever then send me for 71.99 from supermediastore thats hard to pass up.

I personally use DVD+R's for games, DVD-R's for movies. I don't notice any difference in Taiyo Yuden in either + or - format honestly, they're both super reliable. DVD-R's are always cheaper online, if you can find good deals on TYG02/03, go for it. 16x media won't make any difference for movie backups, it's spotty with game backups however.

I don't know if DVD-R's will work on your player. No you can't book type DVD-R's, only DVD+R's. If your DVD player is newer, it should play either format fine.

I got my BenQ 1650 today, installed it and it's working great.
Also got me a 25pk of TY DVD-R 16X TYG03.

Now I'm trying to back up a movie using dvd-decrypter and I was wondering if I should booktype or not.
I know it's a DVD-R but it says I can booktype it as DVD-ROM.
Should I do that or not?

It will have no effect on DVD-R media. It is physically impossible to booktype dvd-r's to dvd-rom. Check the booktype with dvd identifier after a burn and it will say booktype DVD-R.

Why use DVD Decrypter anyway. Qsuite can be set to automatically booktype dvd+r's to dvd-rom for every burn.
