Yeah I've never checked my scores after the initial burn with a new disc, so dunno how much difference SolidBurn makes. I believe the pcs refers to the number of different media it's learned, mine says 5 pcs and has TYG02/03 Sony08D1, MCC 02RG0, and Yuden000T02 learned. Didn't someone recommend turning WOPC off ahile back, I think it was CatFreak.

Lots of good media sales this week everywhere.

Best Buy:
Verbatim 50 pack>$14.99
Verbatim DL 20 pack>$34.99 (best price I've seen so far for these "precious") $1.70 apiece

Office Depot:
Sony 16X 100 stack>$29.99 Look for MIJ only (octagon spacer)

Compusa:
Sony 100 stack>$27.99 also look for MIJ (doesn't give speed) I'm gonna check for 8X MIJ octagon spacer for TY T02s.

Edit: The Sony's at CompUSA and Office Depot were all made in Taiwan at my location.

Meritline has some good deals on DVD+R's. 100 Verb 8x DVD+R's are on sale for $32.99. Tempted to pick those up, never burned to MCC003. I'm down to 70 Yuden000T02's. Dunno why, the thought of burning games to DVD-R's bothers me, just too anal I guess. I'd post the links, but they don't show right, a la SMS.com.

I guess I should clarify: I only use inkjet hub-printable media. There are very few B&M that sell quality inkjet printable media. My local Wal-Marts no longer carry MIJ Maxell +R printables, Sam's Club only has the non-hub printable Verbs, and Wolf/Ritz Camera here no longer has Fuji MIJ printables....

I get my media exclusively online now, and the TY -R printable prices can not be beat!!!!

Probably a problem with the way the system 'automatically highlights URLs'

My area also, the suburbs of Philly, every store, circuitcity, bestbuy, compusa, officemax and depot, k-mart, very rarlely will I see a sony, fuji, verbatin, etc. that says made in Japan, 99% of the time it's always made in Taiwan.
Hi aabbccdd, remember last month we talked about the possibility that some of the ty's from SMS were faulty, there was this one fellow that had to send his back, they were ty2's, at that same time I also placed an order from them for 200 ty2's, my last order from them 200ty's I never got a coaster, and after reading that guys info I kinda got paranoid especially after my first burn with the new shipment failed, afer that, my next 25 burns aok, yesterday, I got 6 coasters in a row, stuck in an old memosux and worked fine, today, i burned 2 movies with the ty's aok, and than the next 3 were coasters again, all this from the first spindle of 50, now that this order was about a month ago I think it's to late to try and complain to somebody, man am I pissed, I;m just keeping my fingers crossed with the next 3 spindles, wish me luck.

Worked it out.. HTML is disallowed by default and those links are html flagged. Ditch everything before the www and it'll link.. ;-) as long as it still points at what it is supposed to. :-)
Tested and just leads to the front page. Are these from secure catalog pages?..if so they can't be hotlinked to anyway because of the way the site is built. They aren't links to a page but to a cell within one...
Hmmm..can't think of any way round that.

Binkie: I jusst wanted you to know that I solved (I think) all those crc errors on my TY GO2s. I reread my printer manual (Epson R320) and it advises not to print the label before burning the dvd (which I had been doing) I started doing that and have had about 97% sucess. SMS did refund me for the 50 discs with errors without any question. Just thought you might like to know the outcome. Thanks for your help and interest.

Is TY quality taking a dive?

I am reading more and more recent incidents of coasters from TYG02 bought from reliable dealers like SMS, Rima, Meritline.

My own experience with them was very, very good until I got batch with maybe 6 coasters from a batch of 100 several months ago. I got a new TYG02 batch from SMS and already from the first 20 or so I've one disc that is suspect. It reports fine using CD Speed (benchmark and disc quality scans) in the drive that burned the disc. When played in another PC with an old Pioneer DVD-ROM drive, it stuuttered and finally froze around the 4 gb area. I did blow out the drive with compressed air and it did play through the previously "bad" area but the drive has not had any problem with all other discs.

For a long time TY coaster reports were rare but this recent set of reports indicates a trend and is worrying me. Maybe it is telling us the quality is on a downward trend and we might need to start switching to other media.

@frbernard
Txs for the update!
I print mine after they are burned. Doing it before may cause a problem like the manual said.

@windtrade
I agree w/ aabbccdd. So far I've only had one coaster w/ Taiyo in the past year (knock on wood) out of hundreds of burns. I usually order the premium line ones (printable & non printable) at least every other month from sms and haven't seen a decline on my end.

Verbatim's made in taiwan are very good media. Comparable to TY's [as most of you know, I actually prefer verbatim (made in taiwan) over TY's]. I doubt you will find any verbatim's made in japan in the states. If you are wanting in store media made by TY, make sure the sony's and fuji's say made in japan. Some get along ok with the made in taiwan sony's but I would stay away from made in taiwan fuji's.

Dunno, I don't frequent DVD forums much, just the game forums. Mostly I find TY errors to be user error. There are the occasional bad batches and compatibility issues, but most of the time I see people with TY issues, it's painfully obvious they're just doing something wrong.

The best burner to use for a replacement in the LiteOn/ilo is a LiteOn SHW 160P6S .. check out the links in my shoutbox

I've been using both value and premium. I used value stock just fine for a long time then started getting problems with them so I switched to premium and so far got that single "bad" disc from the first twenty or so. Unfortunately, I've become distrustful enough that I resort to doing scans on all burns PLUS I went and got a new DW1650 just to make sure the old burner was not causing the problems. Just have to wait and see; kinda sad that after 500+ TY burns it has come to this for me.

Aren't the MIT Sony's that code out {Sony D21-00) in the category of first class blank media? Also, MIT fujis are Ritek which aren't too shabby either I thought?

Tokijin, sorry to burst your bubble here, actually I wish it was the case as you have mentioned, agreed I am no where near as advanced as most of you guys here but commin sense does apply, for some reason especially on this thread the past two months there have been several complaints about these recent ty orderes, before that time I never heard a single complaint, like I said before, I have never got one coaster before I ordered this last batch about a month ago, it was than that I read a fellow had a problem with his recent order, I paid strict attention cause I already had a order on the way which came in about 2 days later, first burn was a flop, havent changed anything from anytime I ever done things before, but the next 25 were ok, now I dont burn no where near as often as most of you guys so it takes me longer to find out if I have problems with the rest of my order, so yesterday 6 flops in a row, said let me try a memorex, still have like a dozen laying around, worked fine, tried 2 more burns with ty and ok, than the next 2 failed.
I did promise several weeks ago that I would keep everybody posted on how this order of 200 would go, so I'm just letting eveybody know, not to down any particular media, but to let all my fellow members know whats going on as I would also expect my fellow AD members to do the same.
I very seriously doubt that givin this past 2 months we have had several members say the same thing besides myself, and just to try and be a little more sure that I was not causing any errors, this past afternoon I burned 6 more times with memorex and all fine, and please dont misinterpret, I am in no way glorifing memorex, you guys are the pro's here, when you say they suck I believe you, learning from you people at AD is why I stopped buying crap media, not cause I was cheap or stupid I just didnt know any better, don't forget most people like myself, computer novices or nubs or whatever were called, we are the majority, we all think that as long as it was a name brand and memorex is than its ok, but I learned different, and also know that nobody's perfect, the outcome, I have a funny suspicion that especially the last couple of months wherever these ty's were made somebody was sleeping on the job.
My problem is cause I don't burn as aften as most it will take me a while before I use up the rest of my 200, if my story is getting old and nobody really cares tell me to shut up and I will, but if you are intersted in how it goes I will continue to inform.
I just wish it hadn't taken me a month to find this out, mainly cause after a month to your place of purchase your complaint is kinda weak, I just don't want this to happin to anybody else.

Why would I be mad about you sharing your experience? It takes courage to stand up and say you believe TY's quality is slipping of late in the official TY thread. I believe you. From personal experience, most all errors with quality media are user error. However, just in the last couple weeks, I encountered two knowledgeable people who had similar problems, Phaser1 and Janrocks. Jan can run laps around me in terms of tech stuff, I know when she has a prob getting TY's to work in her PS2, she's definitely not doing newb stuff. Same with Phaser, he's well spoken and intelligent, all indications were TY's just didn't take to his daughter's PS2. I've hardly burned discs the last couple months, so I wouldn't have any idea if TY's quality is slipping of late. If you're following good burning practices and still having issues, then maybe it's just a compatibility issue with your DVD burner, player. I love TY's, but I don't consider myself a fanboy. I only endorse them because I've had such good success with them. But I also acknowledge they're not perfect, and there are rare exceptions where they just won't take to certain game systems/DVD Players. Truthfully, one reason I got an Xbox was so that I never had to encode video again. I don't mind burning discs, but I hate video encoding, I was told Xbox Media Center was the ultimate media solution, and it is. Now I just transfer video files to my Xbox, watch them in terrific quality, and no conversion is involved. So of late, I've had little need to burn discs. Anyway, not to get too far off topic, but yeah, I'd hope any potential fanboys here could put their fanatiscism aside and acknowledge that TY's could've have had a momentary lapse in quality.
