How do you get soul calibur 2 to boot? I've been trying for roughly a month trying out everything, and you say it works? HOW?

Dragonball Z Budokai 3 doesnt work with my SM 3.3.
I've downloaded this version from emule:
ed2k://|file|PS2.-.DragonBall.Z.Budokai.3.iso|1544962048|A22F16C81D41EDF22E509F54578AEE8F|/

If i load it it says: Not a valid PS2 Disc.
Maybe its better to downloadthe www.ps2rip.com version??

They have a bootdisc on ps2nfo called zoneloader,
it seems to address alot of these problems,
it comes in cd and dvd flavours and seems to work pretty sweet,
I've tried it with T3 redemption,Spliter cell 3 and Xenosaga 2.
I'll try it with my DBZ3 and report back my results.

Finally updated this thread for the hell of it! after neglecting it for what seems like an eternity. Managed to fix most of the problem CDs (just backup with Nero), and the new Zoneloader seems to have resolved any problems I had with Pandora Tomorrow, so everything is great! Added a bunch of new releases as well.

The end result is that there are virtually no non-working games any more. 99% of all tested games working (96% of them in their original form, unpatched and unrebuilt) and a mere 1% non-working -- and it's actually .6% rounded up! In short, you can trust Swap Magic 3+ to work with just about everything.

I'll try to go back and add some games reported as working, too, if I have time, but I prefer to list games which I have tested myself, or have at least seen working with my own eyes. That way I can answer any questions about those games, if the need comes up.

To learn how to rebuild games, go either here
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210515

or here:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/127255

Personally, I recommend you learn how to rebuild images instead of just relying on patches, since it's quite possible you'll have to rebuild another game (released or upcoming) sometime in the future.

I hear the PAL version of Total Overdose needs to be rebuilt because the TOC is 4.37 GB. I'll update the list once I can get my hands on the NTSC version and confirm.

Check the two links I posted just above. Total Overdose (PAL) is verified to work with rebuilding, according to reports.

what about F1 05 and burnout revenge? Do they both work just by backing them up and no rebuilding?

I've heard that Formula One 2005 works as a straight backup despite being oversized. I don't do PAL games myself, so I can't personally attest to this.

As for Burnout Revenge, it's already on my list as working.

Ok,but in your list, the hulk ultimate destruction is working too,but it's 4,6 gb as well,so oversized for swap, how come it's in your list then as working without rebuild?

Huh? Who told you Hulk: Ultimate Destruction was that size?

First of all, the max TOC for a single-layer DVD game is 4.37 GB. Anything above 4.35 GB (4,674,387,968 bytes), the TOC of the Swap Magic DVD, is considered oversized.

Secondly, Hulk: Ultimate Destruction has a TOC of 4.14 GB --- well below that of the Swap Magic DVD, so it is not oversized.

Thirdly, it is a myth that all oversized games will not boot with the Swap Magic DVD. Marvel Nemesis, Samurai Warriors: Xtreme Legends, Def Jam: Fight for New York, Mortal Kombat: Deception, Timesplitters 2, Chaos Legion, Onimusha 3, and Rise of the Kasai are all larger than the Swap Magic DVD -- but they still boot and play fine without any rebuilding or patching! I'm sure there are others as well, but I haven't tested them. In short, oversized games may or may not work Swap Magic as-is; it is a case-by-case scenario.

Fourthly, a single-layer DVD can hold only *4.38* GB, max. Quick computer lesson: Manufacturers like to put 4.7 GB on their DVD labels, but that's in *decimal* terms: 4,700,000,000 bytes. Since there are actually 1024 bytes in a kilobyte, and not 1000 bytes, the true size of a DVD5 is 4,700,000,000 bytes ÷ 1024 = 4,589,844 KB ÷ 1024 = 4,482.27 MB ÷ 1024 = 4.38 GB.

And finally, making a 1:1 backup of Hulk: Ultimate Destruction works, period. I have tried it myself (and played a significant portion of it), as have many other people.

what is "making a 1:1 backup"
ans secondly,i checked again, when i rightclick the iso it says size is 4,33 gb((4.658.036.736 bytes)
so that will work with swap?

My mistake; Hulk: Ultimate Destruction should be 3.85 GB, not 4.14 GB. I accidentally threw the wrong disc in the DVD drive, go figure =p I don't know anything about the PAL version, occasionally the sizes are significantly different from region to region for the same game. But if the TOC size is 4.35 GB or less, you should be fine.

Making a 1:1 backup means exactly that -- copying your original game using your favorite burning program (DVDDecrypter, Alcohol 120%, Nero, etc.). No patching or rebuilding involved.

There is no real ideal burning speed; it all completely depends on the burner and media you use, so it varies from person to person. A lot of people (including myself) do use 4x, yes. But you results may vary.

Glad to hear you got Mercs working, robc11! Rebuilding is pretty useful for those few problem games once you get the hang of it ;)

I have a 500001 PS2 which had been working fine with swap magic 3.3 and a flip top case. Then it stopped reading DVD's, both movies and games. I sent it to a company that fixes PS2 consoles, I received the console back and it does play original ps2 games and original movies, but will not play any backups. does anyone know of a way that repair facilities can repair a PS2 and disable the ability to play backup media? It's strange that originals work, and not backups. Not even backup movies work, just originals. The swap magic disc loads fine, but when inserting a backup game, via the fliptop, it states the media is not a PS2 disc format?

That *does* sound pretty strange. The repair company has no reason to "disable backups," after all (not that I can think of any way they could do it), and backup movies are supposed to work even on unmodded, retail PS2s, from what I hear.

The only thing I can think of is that they adjusted the laser potentiometer (that is, recalibrated the laser intensity) such that it is just strong enough to read retail pressed PS2 DVDs, but not DVDR media. After all, pressed DVDs are somewhat easier to read than burned DVDRs. I'd call or e-mail the repair company and ask them why you can't read the backups of your movie DVDs any more.
