Two days ago I put SMG (us verion) in my wii (Jap version) and it asked for the upgrade so I let it ran since I just got my wii and have no idea about all these cross region issue. Of course, I got a black screen. Now, I have double channels show on my screen but I still can access the setup screen.
so my questions are:
1) Is it so called semi-bricked? If so, how come I can still access the setup screen? Am I missing something or I am not checking the right place to figure out the real problem?
2) My wii is now ver 3.1J. So, if my wii is semi-bricked the how can I fix it? I heard the most recent wii fit (jap) can fix it, is it true? Anyone knows where can I find that wii fit?
3) If I follow the steps to upgrade my Wiikey to 1.9 g, will I be able to play SMG (us version) or should I just stick with jap version of SMG?
Sorry for all these questions, I am new to this.
Thanks.

For Japanese Wiis you need the WiiFit (JAP) to unbrick.
Try that and let me know.

just to make sure new Wiikey owners understand this:
If things are working just fine, do not do anything. No updates and no config anything.
Update 1.9g is for allowing SMG to run. So use that only is SMG does not run.
REGION OVERRIDE becomes an issue only if backup games or Update discs are not running.
Where's the party?!?

rafadawn,
Just curious. If my wii shows dup channels then that means my wii is semi-bricked? I have not done the Internet connection yet but I can click the system setup and go to setup up the time and date all that stuffs, is my wii semi-bricked?
If I can connect to Internet, can I go to the official site to download the latest firmware to unbricked my wii?
Forgive my ignorance to ask all the basic questions.

Rafadawn,
Two quesitons:
1) Right now my Wii (jap) shows it has verion 3.1j, will I still be able to use Wii Fit(jap versioin) to unbricked my wii?
2) To run wii fit, do I have to upgrade to 1.9g (jap version) first?
Thanks

Listen,
if games backup work and you can get into the Wii's settings, i would mot play with updates or anything else.
You may want to try updating via Internet and see if that fixes anything, but, if your problem right now is duplicate channels, just move them on a different page, out of the way and do not worry about it.
You may try Wiifit, but that game has firmware 3.1J on it, and you said your Wii is already at 3.1j, so i'm not sure using Wiifit will make any difference.
If you want to try afew things, here are a few solutions i have seen in the past:
1) Move the channels, by grabbing hold of the channel you want to move with the A + B button and move it.
2) A system format may solve the problem (not confirmed):
update to the latest firmware for your correct region, and then do a reformat. make sure to put your saves on an SD card first though. the shop stuff doesnt matter you can always download anything you paid for again for free.
If you botched it into the latest firmware, it looks like you just have to wait for the next one, and the game that contains it, in your own region.
Where's the party?!?

I have a Wii Fit iso with me, supposed to be a Jap version (is there a US version for this game?)
If my sole purpose is to use the update in Wii Fit to unbrick my Jap set, do I need to
(1)regionfrii and/or
(2)bricblock
the iso before burning?
Please advise.
Thank you.

1) If open the image in Wiibrickblocker, without patching it, but only to READ INFO, it will tell you the region.
2) If you have a Jap Wii and and Jap Wiifit, let the game run without any patch whatspever: neither Wiibrickblocker, nor Regionfrii

If your console is able to run backups, it will read the disc and run the update, otherwise it will not.

Does anyone know if Super Smash Bros. Brawl will probably be able to detect your wiikey, since the wiikey website is down, it doesn't look good if a new game update comes out.

Im really confused right now since there were bits and pieces of information all over the place. I have a japanese wii which has wiikey. I placed SMG into my wii and i allowed it to upgrade then i tried playing it, blank screen... Next, i placed 1.9g Jap boot disc into the wii and everything went fine, from 1st update to the second. Then i inserted SMG and reset the wii, hoping that it would work. The wii recongnizes SMG but when i selecting it to play, a blank screen happens. Im really fustrated right now, can any one help me out step by step? My SMG is jap and all my other backups play fine. thanks.

Hi all,
My wii is Jap set. I have updated to 3.1J.
wiikey is 1.9g. however, after I upgraded, all my backup copies can't play. I tried to turn on region also using 1.3. but no help.
However, i turned off the GCOS. now my config 1.2 and 1.3 no more working. always prompt me error and to power off. What should I do to reset the setting?
I tried 1.9b recover disc padded and non-padded but nothing happen. wii always able to detect a gamecube when insert the disc. wait more than 10min also nothing happen.
I don't have a gamecube controller, even if I use the GCOS 1.3.
please help to recover my wiikey setting.

How can you tell which version of Wii key firmware you are running?
ie. 1.9b or 1.9g or 1.2?

Try using the HACKED 1.3 Config Disc from the initial post. Download, unrar, doubleclick the Jap BAT, burn resulting iso image, and run it to try to Config your Wiikey.
If that doesn't work, then try the 1.9b recover disc... follow instructions in the txt file that comes with it. Then try to run 1.9g.
Burn on DVD-r at 4x or you could get DRE

Hi,
My results:
1. used the config 1.3 hack disk. Inserted ... it said region unk (i believe that's suppose to mean unknown) insert disc and press any key
2. Inserted a config 1.3 disc (this one shows dre when i insert directly without). Screen shows wii key base 1.2 disc. Turned region override on
3. reset and inserted 1.9b update ... test failed! :(
bad bad - same experience with using 1.9 recovery inserted -> blank screen - waited slightly more than 5 min to be safe ... reset ... everything seems the same ... still can't update to 1.9x
how? running out of ideas...

Does anyone know any good links to good forums on modding xbox 360s and PSPs, because I really like the wiikey and I want to try modding my other systems to play my other backups.
