Thank you.
I was also wondering if anyone knows how to put N64 roms on to a DVD disc with a good step by step tutorial using a wiikey. (using only games that you already have). I have looked almost everywhere, but could only find a little but they aren't very clear and good.
THANK YOU

Hi, my [US] Wii is v2.2U and I have the wiikey in it.
After I install the Firmware v1.9b my japanese back up and original don't work. So I went and put in the 1.2 setup disc and put region override ON but the game still say unable to work blah bla bla.
So what did I miss. Should I use the 1.9g and the 1.3 setup disc ?
Another thing is that I haven't updated my wii firmware via internet because I heard that though it doesn't affect the chip it affects action replay. Since i can't figure out how to make the region override work I can't afford to update online yet. Also I will have to update online when I have smash brawl so what should I do?

I managed to turn on the regional with hacked 1.3.
However, after upgraded using wiifit latest firmware 3.1J and wiikey 1.9g, my backup copies all can't play.
I used Verbatim burn with 2x and 4x also can't play. go into blank screen

My wii doesn't read any burned discs.
I've tried Verbatim DVD+RW x4 and x8 discs with different speeds.
And Traxdata DVD+RW x8 discs.
I've tried updates and configs and games. (Zenda and SMG)
I've tried Nero and ImgBurn.
Nothing works. If someone have any ideas tell me.
Thanks.

You need to use DVD-R discs burnt at 4x.

I have recently seen a few people reporting this problem with Japanese Wii.
1) Can you run GCOS discs (Gamecube mode)?

Quick question. For Wiikey firmware, is it region specific? I have a Jap Wii, so do I need to use a 1.9g Japanese firmware upgrade? or is the wiikey itself not region specific...?

Hi All,
I am just wondering, after I run config 1.3 and change REGION OVERRIDE to ON, Save and reboot my wii, WHY when I run config 1.3 again, the REGION OVERRIDE turn OFF again ?
Isn't it supposedly to be ON since we change & save it to ON previously ?

Ok everything works fine I use the Setup disc 1.3 turn on region override and my japanese and back games work fine.
Super smash bros brawl will come out soon and I will be force to go online. Will everything be ok because my US wii is still 2.2?
I really want to know. Thanks

Yes, always region specific, if you get a choice.

Hi,
I've managed to update my Wii to 3.1U.
I tried to run SMG to see if it works but apparently not since it gave me an Unauthorized device error.
So now I would have to update my WiiKey to 1.9g. And to run Config 1.3 to turn Region back On.
I've downloaded 1.9g US and Config 1.3 from the first page.
But before I do that, must I have a GC controller in order to run 1.3 config? I don't have any GC controller.
And to confirm on steps to run 1.9g.
- I have to power on my Wii first.
- Wait for channels to appear then insert 1.9g disc
- Run update 2 times till homer's voice is heard
- Reset Wii
- Run 1.3 config to turn region override on
- reset Wii
- insert SMG and run

SMG US and Wii 3.0U and WiiKey 1.9g?
This seems strange but it is working fine.
01.My Wii (US) was at 2.2U and WiiKey at 1.2 (or whatever orig FW was)
02.Went to play Links Crossbow and it wanted to do update. I declined
as I wasn't sure what type of update it was. I read through a
bunch of forums but didn't find much info. So I figured I would be
cautious.
03.Ran Wiikey setup disc 1.2 and made sure region override was on.
04.Ran Wiikey setup disc 1.3 and made sure region override was on.
05.Put Links back in and let it do a Wii system update & now Wii is at
3.0U
06.Put Wiikey setup disc 1.3 back in (It is the filechopped US ver and
it booted fine) again made sure region override was on.
07.Put in Wiikey 1.9g update disc just to see if first round completed
OK, it did. So I figured what the heck and let it run the actual
FW update. It finished and Homer was heard.
08.Went on and played Link's for a while.
09.Buddy comes over with a backup of SMG (US) and since I already ran
the Wiikey 1.9g I figured I would go ahead and see what happens.
10.Pop in SMG backup and as expected it says it needs to perform a
system update along with the modded console warning. I Let it do
the update and played the game. (I forgot about the 2nd update
everyone has talked about)
11.I have powered off/unplugged the Wii etc but SMG never asks about a
2nd update and strangely enough the system is still at 3.0U and NOT
3.1U as everyone says it needs to be to play SMG.
So I don't no why but it seems to be working perfect as well as my other Wii and GC backups.
I do have a question though.
How can you tell the FW version of the Wiikey. When I run the 1.2 setup disc the only numbers shown are BASE 1.2. When I run the 1.3 setup disc the only numbers shown are BASE 1.3. Is there somewhere that will show 1.9g etc?
Thanks

Hi,
I tried to filechop Config 1.3 but kept getting error.
C:\Wii>filechop.exe bootdisc.us.iso 1459978240

setting filesize to: 1459978240 bytes (0.00mb)

Anyone knows what's wrong?

@schmule
Well, schmule, you just discovered what we have known foe a while: The Wiikey, at 1.9g, on a Wii at 3.0 or above, works absolutely fine.
The people that mess it up are the ones bricking their Wiis with games form other region.
Other than that, it's all about physical problems.
Team d2ckey did a great job with the 1.9g update.

If this is due to the semi-brick by other region game, what should we do to recover this mess?
Can I still downgrade my wiikey to older version than 1.9b?

As far as Troubleshooting your Wiikey, I summarized the situation in this post.
Then, about troubleshooting a Wii brick, there is some info in the initial post of this thread, but, even better, there is a Sticky just for that.

Anyone can interpret what this implies:
1. Can run config 1.2 directly (Wii key base 1.2)
2. Cannot run config 1.3 directly. Need to burn as GCOS. (Wii key base 1.3 Console:J)
3. Can run 1.9b and 1.9g but cannot get past testing

Turn region override ON.
Use the correct region for your Wiikey update files
Try the update files in regular and GCOS mode.
Use DVD-R at 4x, or 2x, or even 1x
Let the update disc run for 5.. 10 min.
Probably a burn/disc problem

Hi,
To summarized to what i did
My wii (jap) already 3.1J after backup copy wii fit(J) upgraded the firmware.
->1.9g(success), config 1.3 turn on region.
After all this, my wii no more read those DVD I burned. even the wii fit(J) that I used for upgraded the firmware.
I tried format sys memory->1.9b->1.9g all seems ok.
but I still failed to read those DVD i burned, but it works before I upgraded 3.1J and 1.9g.
I can't use the 1.9b recover disc, everytime i insert the padded or normal 1.9b recovery disc always detected as gamecube game. not like what have mention in the readme, will not detected anything.
What should I do now?

So... does your Wii work in Gamecube mode? (aka GCOS)
Do you have a gamecube controller?
