:-)

No need to get defensive. Whatever works is just fine.

All I am saying is that there are tried and true strategies that limit problems and the possibility of errors and damage for most of the users.

When I was playing a backup of SMG, my wii froze and it was making this ringing sound. I had to unplug it to work. Please tell me what the cause of this was and if it could be harmful to the wii?

THANK YOU

This is highly relevant to my interests, specifically playing Wiifit (J) on a US Wii with Wiifit. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

I hope this helps someone and I'd be happy to answer any questions.

Rafadawn,

I tried the DVD-R x16 dics, but they didn't work.
I burned them at 4x and i burned the The Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess.

Should i use the config disc first or does the old games work without the REGION override ON?

My Wii is PAL and Zelda is PAL...

Has anyone tried out sonic riders zero gravity yet, and does anyone know if it has an update or if it will effect your wiikey in anyway.

THANK YOU

Any help will be APPRECIATED!!!
I have a NTSC/US wii firmware 3.1U with a wiikey (original not a clone). I have the same problem most everyone else has it will not read any burned dvd since I upgraded to Wiikey 1.9g and Wii 3.1U. The wiikey is installed correctly (checked with multimeter). I've had it for nearly a year, but since upgrading to 1.9g and after it worked for nearly a month (only NTSC USA games have ever been used) now no backups will read since the update to 3.1U. I've tried everything in this thread and any others I can find and its still not working. All originals play fine, but no burned dvds will be recognized...NOTHING...
No backup games Wii or GameCube
No GCOS discs
No config discs (either wii size 4.37 or gc size 1.35)
All media is either Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim dvd-r burned at either 1x or 4x using either ImageBurn or Nero on both a Pioneer 111D or a LiteOn using both Vista and XP.
I can't do anything because NO burned dvd can be read, only originals. I tried everything user 666 did but it won't read any discs that are burned. I've ordered another Wiikey but don't want the same problem once it arrives.
Someone PLEASE help, its been nearly a month now and I can't play backups!!!!

Just to be clear,
there is NO problem with Wiikey 1.9g and Wii firmware 3.1U
None whatsoever!

When a Wii, modded with Wiikey, is not able to run GCOS discs, correctly sized and burnt, then either the Wiikey is DEAD or there is aproblem with the SOLDERING. That's it.

All sort of other problems are caused by people bricking their units.

You seem to have followed all the correct directions and procedures for wiikey owners. If your Wii is still not able to read GCOS discs, then you did the right thing by buying a new Wiikey.

I stand corrected thanks to beertent. See post below.

From what I have seen, there is no working release of the game yet, but the game has no firmware issue.

Sonic Riders played fine on my NTSC/U wii.
The only issue was the little movie at the begining of story mode for
some reason would crash the wii. So naturally I tried again and just skip the movie and all is fine.

I have to say thanks to rafadawn for this awesome resource.
My wii is fine but it is a real relief to have this info just a
click away.

hi everybody.
i'd like to express many thanks to everyone for the great work that's been done here.
i've got a pal wii(3.1u),wiikey ver 1.9g.
recently i run onto a very good list informing about the compatibility of other region wii games[http://wiki.gbatemp.net/index.php?title=Wii_Region_Patcher_Compatibility_List:_PAL].
my question is:do i have to use config disks to turn the REGION OVERRIDE ON to play disks fron other region or they'll play anyway if i leave the wii as it is (i mean the games that are checked and play for sure because some of them doesn't)?
thanks

Try and see what happens ... maybe your REGION OVERRIDE setting is already ON.

Just be careful.

Which one is right?

This one:?

If you have a US Wii:

1) Upgrade to 3.1U
2) Install wiikey update 1.9g (US)
3) Play SMG (US) and let it update

It will be fine if you keep everything within the system's region.

Or this one?

If you're having update "issues" read below

Step 1: Run the update that SMG requires prior to installing the
1.9g fix.

Step 2: Run the 1.9g fix (burn this image w/ ImgBurn which is free).

Step 3: You will be prompt to run the update by either using a GC
controller (press A button) or by pressing reset (I was
using a GC controller for my update.

Step 4: You will see a % bar at the bottom. Once this update
completes you MUST run the second update!!! You will see a
WARNING to not turn off your console during the second
update. Once this is done you will receive a message to
insert SMG and to restart the system.

Step 5: ENJOY the game!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You will need to run SMG and it will prompt you to run another system update, do it. After that your Wii will reset and you'll be able to play!

I am slightly confused about the precedures. Could someone please give me a simple instruction on how to update the wiikey without using the GC controller. Thanks.

Hi everyone, i'm new here.^_^
I seek help please i'm not a nub and i read many articles here's my issue:
1-Wii 3.1US with wiikey.
2-I managed to open the 1.3 configure wiikey.
3-My wii can play all backups wither PAL or NTSC and GC originals as well.

My problem is i can't update my wiikey at all neither by 1.9b nor 1.9g i get the famous error test failed (in red).
My head will explode if i read more articles plz gimme all available options.

What am thinking right now is burn 1.9g without filechop. Is it efficient?

Mario is my life tell me anything u know plz

Advice is ever in want.

By all means try any version of 1.9g you can come up with ... padded, original, GCOS, or not ....

Try different burns ...

Recently I have had two people I have helped via PM that resolved the issues they were having only by running 1.9g until it was accepted by the Wiikey (I think anywhere between 10 and 20 times).

As for the usual things:
Are you using the US image for the 1.9g?
Have you tried different sources for the image?
Are you burning on DVD-R at 2x or 4x?

Maybe you should try 1.9b first and then 1.9g. Or, if you really want, give your Wiikey a reset by using the 1.9b recover disc and then 1.9g (However use this as a last resort).

can you explain how i do the padded and GCOS? (what's the difference)
i tried about 9 times.
1.9b recovery isn't working(tell me the proper way of burning it if u know)
i made all my burns at 4x and i have the JP,PAL and US image but i only used the US one since my Wii is US as i mentioned.
I also tried 2 sources of the image.Burned over 14 DVD now it's tedious.
do i have to hex all the images that don't work?

Advice is ever in want.
